Surprised there hasn't been a BoyZone or Keating song yet.

Unfortunately they are on the way

    20 Mark McCabe - Maniac 2000
19 Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town
18 Bagatelle - Summer in Dublin
    17 Sinead O'Connor - Mandinka
    16 The Saw Doctors - N17

Very surprised here too. For what it's worth, the Boyzone songs available to pick were Love Me For A Reason, No Matter What and Picture Of You, and the Ronan Keating song was Life Is A Rollercoaster from the 2000s list. Very surprised that When You Say Nothing At All from July 1999 wasn't an option to choose from. I have no doubt it would have squeezed in there somewhere if it had been.

15 Christy Moore - The Voyage
    14 The Cranberries - Linger
    13 Bell X1 - Rocky Took a Lover
12 Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
    11 Wolfe Tones - Grace

No Republic of Loose songs in top 100 was there? Surprised at that.

'You Know It', 'The Steady Song' and 'Comeback Girl' all received mega airtime back in the day.

Royseven and 'We Should Be Lovers' is another one from the late noughties/early 2010's that I thought would sneak in somewhere. A one-hit wonder maybe, but an excellent pop-rock song that still sounds great and had massive airplay at the time.

Yeah, have a lot of time for them but it seems like they're being left behind. Saw Mik Pyro at the Cork Jazz last year and he played a good mix of his new stuff and old Loose songs.

Also surprised Burn Baby Burn by Ash didnt make the top 100, would've assumed that was as big if not bigger than any of their other hits.

Mod - @ford fiesta, you're well aware that there's a thread for RTÉ Gold so there's no need to drag it in here. Some posts will be deleted.

I wonder could When You Were Sweet Sixteen sneak into the top ten?

As good a ballad as any of the ones that featured so far, and would have a lot of nostalgia for people

WYSNAA is not a Ronan Keating song. It was recorded by country singer Keith Whitley back in 1988.

Picture House Sunburst tends to get quite a bit of airplay on some of the online automatic stations (including RTÉ Gold) but hasn't featured in the Top 100 from what I've seen. Doubt it's going to be a high hitter.

    This too shall pass.

I wonder will "Fairytale of New York" make top 10?

I expected it appear somewhere in the 100, granted being a Christmas song, I expected it to put people off picking it so I thought it'd be somewhere in the middle, but at the same time it would be some oversight to not have it at all?

Thanks. I did consider that later, that maybe it would be excluded for that reason. Uptown Girl by Westlife was hugely popular but it wasn't one of the default voting choices of theirs.

I think it will. I hate dragging up the fact that there's a pre-determined list of songs that Today FM serves up to the masses on all its polls for us to vote on, and that these will have a clear advantage, and this poll is no exception. The Pogues' songs were A Pair of Brown Eyes, A Rainy Night in Soho and Fairytale of New York, and I figure the two of them that haven't featured yet will be in the top 10.

As for my cynicism for the "list" as I call it; I parked it for this poll because there were over 150 songs to choose from (maybe closer to 200?), and with a top 100 being revealed, and the inclusion of songs by decade in addition to songs by artist, it was likely that the songs at the top of the list would have been the same if it was just a straight vote with no suggested songs. It makes this probably by favourite poll so far.

I'd wouldn't be surprised if Fairytale makes the Top 5.

Deserves it and the poll was done verrry early in the year.

Hurtling towards top Top 10 now. We're at 12 now. Louise will count down to 3, and then Ray will take over. I have to leave the house this afternoon, so I don't know how I'm going to cope.

Correction: until 2... My first mistake in over a decade

My favorite era of Irish music was early '90s indie.

I'm disappointed to see that my write in selections of "Dogs with no tails" by The Pale and "Singers Hampstead Home" by Microdisney will not make it, but a good bit from that era has, even though I have not heard Endless Art by A-House yet.

But anyway, what I have learned from this is that "Take a sexy picture of me" by CMAT is absolutely class.

I've probably heard it before but never took any heed.

When they do this is 20 years time it should be way up there.

Dreams #4. So Zombie is top 3. Nothing Compares 2 U also. What obvious U2 song am I missing to make up the other spot?

    Ooh, this is getting tense!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

5 Hozier - Take Me To Church
    4 The Cranberries - Dreams

Just ahead of the all-singing, all-dancing Top 3 live from Whelan's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

They haven't played Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of or Sweetest Thing yet. Can't see either of them getting ahead of One or With Or Without You though! Top 3 must contain Zombie, Nothing Compares 2 U, and I'm at a loss as to the other one. We haven't had Outnumbered by Dermot Kennedy yet :D Which actually surprises me considering his other songs on the chart. Has it snuck into the Top 3?

Did I am the Butterfly by The Pale appear on the list?

Loved that song, think Tony Fenton used to play it on and off during the lunchtime show in the 00's (when I actually listened to a lot of radio due to my job)

Afraid not! Remember it from the 90s alright. Did they also have Cello or was that someone else? A different band with another song with that chorus "I'm in love, I'm in love" etc. "BUT IT'S NOT MY FAAUUULT!"
