That's assuming that Iran will be happy to just accept the bombings and open up the strait again. If the world economy goes off a cliff due to energy prices then we will have a completely different scenario.

Assassinating heads of state, especially without a formal declaration of war, is a terrible precedent to set for the world. Does America want this to become a common way of settling differences? It’s a sure path to chaos.

East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank are not contested internationally nor in law. Only Israel contests them.

The ICJ ruled last summer that Israeli was illegally occupying land, that it had to leave immediately and pay reparations.

So far, Israel has simply doubled down and continues to grab more land.

Israel is also illegally occupying southern Lebanon and Golan.

From the river to the river. I can say that, right?

Thanks for sharing such a detailed analysis and comparison. I found it fascinating and illuminating.

Information like that is priceless - it makes for a much better understanding of the situation.

Well, Israel left Gaza decades ago. They now occupy over 50% of it and it's mostly rubble, dust and the bodies of 50,000 women and children and the decaying remains of countless thousands more who are unidentified.

So Israel has form for "starting from scratch".

Longer term, the Arabs and Iranians are stuck with each other and the Americans will be a memory. They’ll have to find a way of living together.

UK advises citizens to stay away from Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan

The British Foreign Office has said that it “now advises against all but essential travel to Gilgit-Baltistan due to reports of unrest and protests, intermittent movement restrictions, and reports of mobile and internet service outages”.

The region, governed by Pakistan, has witnessed some of the most violent protests against the US-Israel war on Iran since the conflict broke out on February 28.

Read something’s about unrest in Bahrain too but I can’t find anything conclusive. Majority of their native population are Shia while those in charge are Sunni.

Whatever the extent of his injuries, appointing a person whose family has just been decimated sends out an uncompromising message of its own. He’s not going to be keen on more ‘negotiations’ with the Americans after what happened the last two times.

I heard some analyst on the radio and she was saying that it might be a lot more difficult to Pandora back in her box. She said Trump may want to roll back, Iran may want an exit strategy also but she believes the difficulty will be getting Netanyahu to pull out.

Conquered fair and square? First in a surprise attack in 1956. Second in a surprise attack in 1967.

Has Russia conquered parts of Ukraine fair and square in their surprise attack in 2022?

Sounds kind of like the way babies and toddlers were disguised as terrorists in Gaza just the only difference being Israeli snipers loved murdering them. I guess bombs are more expensive than bullets. Maybe that's the difference.

Russia wasn’t attacked by Ukraine and nor had Ukraine sworn the destruction of Russia repeatedly for years before Russia invaded.

More importantly though, that still doesn’t even begin to explain why Israel handed Sinai back if it planned to include it within Israel. Quite the opposite: if it wasn’t a pre-emptive attack, why on earth would they take it militarily only to then hand it back?

The only way that action makes sense is that Israel is prepared to exchange land for peace. The Egyptians and the Jordanians settled and that’s what Israel hoped Gazans would do when Israel forcibly removed their own Jewish settlers from Gaza and left millions of dollars worth of their own market gardening equipment that the Gazans could have used to make a thriving economy.

But Gazans instead voted for religious extremists who prefer to sacrifice Gazan children in their doomed attempt to destroy Israel.

So many people knew Trump was going to be bad. Bad for America and bad for the world. He doesn't carry himself well at all. Especially in public meetings and speeches. He is not sane or diplomatic. But this bad! To start a war that will result in a recession the world over.

I was watching Australian news online and some farmers there are going into a crisis situation where the only oil they have left is the oil in their tanks for whatever machinery they have. So that will result in food and production issues.

The world all over is going to be hit hard by this.

I can’t quite remember why Israel attacked Gaza on October 8th. It’s odd that.

Don’t bring facts into this discussion. It’s more important to some people about what people believe to be true rather than verified information.

As I see it this is a military porn war. The U.S. still hasn't given a rational reason for choosing to go to war against Iran or what were the objectives.

Iran is taking the punches and is still fighting back.

So what next? More lies about how the USA is winning but war on this scale isn't won till Iran says so.

if the US pulls out of Iran, Israel will have to consider if they can continue to fight on multiple fronts:

Gaza, Lebanon, West Bank and Iran.

Given that Gaza has been going on over 2 years, I'd imagine the hit to the economy, availability of reservists, availability of conscripts (most Haredi refuse to sign up), availability of munitions/equipment, keeping planes and tanks serviced etc. will mean they would have to let Iran go.

With reporting restrictions in place it isn't know how much damage has been inflicted by Iran and Hezbollah. But with reports at least of warning sirens activating multiple times, I'd imagine the general population would want a break.

The economy might be the biggest factor. It was already heading downwards and had been downgraded (and still is). Israelis (particularly those highly qualified) have been leaving in tens of thousands. Reservists and conscripts are unable to work their normal jobs. The recent attacks would certainly disrupt daily life and work. And the cost of the current war has been eye-watering.

Elections are due in the autumn (unless the govt collapses beforehand) so Netanyahu could be gone by then anyhow.

He and his govt. have dragged Israel into the depths of hell and I'd imagine many will see to this govt. consigned to the dustbin of history. If they don't, god knows where this will end up but wherever that is, there won't be rainbows and unicorns.

Is there anyone or any journalist that will hols the US accountable on this? We really do need answers.

And the Israeli response was to execute scores of its own fleeing to safety and then commit Genocide.

That's equally odd, don't you think?

You seem to have this consistent and ongoing need to blame the victims.

I believe you also previously denied that Israel implemented the Hannibal Directive, even when clear corroborated evidence was given, and killed scores of their own.

Perhaps you also believe those Iranian parents sacrificed all those schoolgirls too?

The whole “Israel left a thriving market garden industry for the Gazans” baloney is right up there with “a land without a people for a people without a land”.

The Israeli settlers were compensated by millions for their greenhouses. It was not an altruistic gesture.
Palestinians did use the greenhouses but faced import restrictions on seeds and fertilizers and export restrictions on their perishable produce which was held up for days at border posts, spoiling before it could reach markets.

Israeli propaganda would have us believe that the savage Palestinians couldn’t work with what the benevolent Israelis had left them and simply destroyed it.
    This is not what happened.

Am I dreaming but didn't Congress actually pass a law against that back in the 1970's? Not of course that Trump & co would pass any heed on that.

20 years ago and there have been no elections since. This 'they're getting what they deserve' narrative is as boring as it is disingenuous.

Here is more background. The map is about a Middle East dominated by Israel after they have colonised the lands of Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Egypt. The Abraham Accords and military assistance from the US were the pathway to achieve this. Did Saudi Arabia ever join or were they spooked by the Israeli intention to dominate the region?

    https://www.diplopolis.com/power-plays/the-bargain-that-broke-how-the-iran-war-shattered-the-abraham-accords-founding-logic/

Here are some extracts from Netanyahu’s various speeches.

Understanding Netanyahu's Plot for 'New Middle East' Through Wars - Al-Estiklal Newspaper

Netanyahu categorized the region into two distinct groups: those he deemed a "curse" for the Israeli Occupation—namely Iran, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen—labelled in black as part of what he referred to as the "axis of evil."

Conversely, the countries he identified as a "blessing" for the Israeli Occupation, prominently featuring Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt, were highlighted in green.

Since the onset of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in October 2023, Netanyahu has frequently invoked religious language and extreme, genocidal rhetoric while discussing the so-called "New Middle East" and its transformation, excluding Palestinians and their right to self-determination and an independent state.

On September 2, 2024, he proclaimed that "the time of the Messiah" had come to establish the kingdom of the Jews, assuring Israelis of their impending victory.

In a televised address on October 25, 2023, Netanyahu asserted his intention to fulfil the "prophecy of Isaiah" by annihilating Palestinians and Arabs, labelling them as "sons of darkness" while depicting Israelis as "sons of light."

In a threatening address to Iran on September 30, 2024, he asserted that "there is no place in the Middle East that is beyond Israel’s reach."

Oraib al-Rantawi, director of the Jerusalem Center for Political Studies, elaborated on Netanyahu’s overarching strategy, characterizing it as an attempt to “turn the Middle East upside down.”

He argues that Netanyahu seeks to establish a Jewish state from the river to the sea, displacing Palestinians into Jordan while simultaneously targeting Iran.

In a recent statement via his account on X, al-Rantawi articulated that Netanyahu’s ultimate ambition is to “subordinate and enslave the region,” revive the paths of “Abrahamic normalization,” dismantle the axis of resistance, and rejuvenate what Netanyahu terms the “axis of grace.”

While the "Greater Middle East" aimed to facilitate the Occupation’s integration into the Arab region—addressing its status as an outcast—the "New Middle East" signifies the Occupation’s ambition to assert dominance over the region, reshaping it in alignment with its interests and those of the West, all while actively countering any resistance to the Zionist colonial project.

Thriving economy? Are you having a laugh?

Do some reading on the Blockade of Gaza and how Israel ensured it was an open air prison camp with a crippled economy and huge unemployment.

By the way, none of the dead or maimed or orphaned children voted for anyone.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I wonder, do the chaps at the FO manage to keep a straight face when drafting the warnings to British citizens about the risk of Islamist terrorism abroad? I certainly couldn't.

The best part of the cut/paste is the obvious falsehoods. Why don't you google Oraib Al-Rantawi and see where he's really the head of. Hint: nowhere in Jerusalem.

Hang on a minute. I am sure Trump said the other night he attacked Iran because he had a feeling Iran was going to attack America.

" TO BE CLEAR: No such threat from Iran to our homeland exists, and it never did." So why did you attack them then ?
