If they still have their passports and had their ESTA approved before the decision to jail them, they might be on their way to Washington for Paddy's Day as we speak.

“The whole idea of having been homeschooled as though it is the primary reason for their behaviour is frankly absurd,”

I never claimed homeschooling was the cause.

I think the issue of home schooling is interesting and deserving of discussion.

Possibly worthy of it's own thread not connected to the Burke family.

There may be a case for a referendum but as the old saying goes "hard cases make bad law".

Ahh I know you didn’t, it was more a general comment on the few posts that led up to your post saying he never had a chance, as though Enoch deserves any sympathy whatsoever for his current predicament. No such sympathy would be extended to anyone in his current company, and at least 70% of them were educated in a formal setting, where socialisation doesn’t appear to have moderated their attitudes and behaviour either -

The absolute neck of Burke thinking that after the half million or more that he has cost the taxpayers and the state over the years that he somehow has the right to select which prison he gets to stay in. With such a profoundly narcissistic outlook and inability to read the room and gauge how others perceive him it's little wonder that the prison authorities determined that housing Burke in Mountjoy’s general population would pose a risk to his safety. He would have been eaten up or worse.

I really hope that Cregan holds his nerve and despatches this nonsense forthwith.

Looks like Enoch misbehaved on the bus to the hearing, like a naughty schoolboy.

    Indo today

I wonder who he is sharing a cell with in Castlerea?

Lost his privileged status in the new inmates section of Mountjoy due to his behaviour. They considered him unsafe in the main prison,so he's been transferred to a single cell in Castlerea.

They're all a shouty crew like the mother.

Any one else think it's a disgrace that a middle-class lad like Enoch is getting preferential treatment in prison?

Making sure he has his own cell and enhanced treatment!

Tell me a working class lad from inner Dublin who would get the same treatment?

Mountjoy is running at 134% capacity, So many are sharing, yet they are bending over backwards sending him down to a smaller prison, and he has the audacity to complain!

I guess that if he is doing his shouting tantrum routine in the back of a prison van then it shows how deep this rot is within his psyche. A part of me reckoned that much of it was an act, done to appease a false deity such as his mother and the family's idiot followers but it looks to be genuine.

They're protecting the other prisoners from him.

    From X extra.ie…

Enoch Burke lost his ‘enhanced prisoner’ status due to his behaviour while on a court visit, the High Court has heard. The former teacher then had to be moved to Castlerea Prison, as there was nowhere safe to hold him among the general, overcrowded prison population in Mountjoy, Judge Brian Cregan was told. Mr Burke has claimed that his transfer earlier this month was unlawful, but this has been firmly denied by the Irish Prison Service (IPS).

Barrister David Perry yesterday read a sworn statement from Don Culliton, director of operations at the IPS. Mr Culliton noted that Mr Burke was committed to Mountjoy in Dublin on January 19 this year for contempt of court, having failed to obey the order to stay away from his former school. He said the IPS operated an ‘incentivised regimes policy’, in which prisoners were given basic, standard or enhanced status.

On February 26, a review of Mr Burke’s behaviour was carried out by prison authorities. ‘The review found that the behaviour exhibited by the defendant while escorted to court failed to meet the required standard,’ he said. This standard included compliance with all reasonable instructions, and co-operation with staff, he added.

Accordingly, on February 27, Mr Burke dropped to the standard regime. Following a risk assessment, Mr Culliton said, ‘it was deemed that the defendant was not suitable for accommodation in the general population of Mountjoy Prison as he would face risks to his own safety’. He required a single-occupancy cell, but Mr Culliton said Mountjoy was at 135% capacity, with 83 prisoners sleeping on the floor. Mr Culliton said he ordered the transfer of Mr Burke to Castlerea Prison in Co. Roscommon on March 1 for his own safety and protection. Mr Burke is currently in a single cell, he said.

Mr Burke responded that the court order under which he had been imprisoned stated that he must be taken to Mountjoy and detained there until he purged his contempt. He claimed it was wrong to treat him as a criminal when he was behind bars due to a civil offence, with no trial and no sentence. Mr Burke said he had been accused by prison officials of stalling on leaving the courtroom, when he had only been trying to take legal papers being given to him by his brother, Isaac Burke. He said the second alleged misconduct related to how he had spoken to Judge Cregan on February 20 – which he said was ‘an attempt by the prison service to punish me for being vocal in court’.

Enoch Burke tells High Court his move from Mountjoy has no basis in law. He noted that ‘no particular prison is a paradise’, saying he had witnessed regular ‘fist fighting’ and drug use at Mountjoy. Judge Cregan asked him again if he would purge his contempt. When he refused, the judge said it was a ‘tragedy’ that Mr Burke was ‘wasting’ his life in prison. Judge Cregan said he would give his judgment regarding the lawfulness of the transfer on Wednesday of next week.

I'm assuming the hearing may have been by AV link from Castlerea.

His objection to being held in Castlerea came despite the fact the transfer has brought him closer to his family home in Castlebar, Co Mayo, just 75km drive away.

The real reason for the objection.

Daddy's mechanic will have to cancel the recurrent order for service items and wheel bearings now that he's close and there's only video court attendance.

Great point. And any bit of leniancy and accomodation shown to this family will only ever result in more and more poor behaviour.

I'd love to see the outcome of them giving backchat to the authorities over on that side of the Atlantic.

You gotta wonder what went on in the back of that prison van….

The control and brainwashing of that family is so deep, I don’t think anything would undo it. I was surprised when I read last year that some of them spent a year or more at foreign universities. If that break from the parents didn’t give them a taste of freedom, nothing will.
The fact that Enoch chastised himself over entertaining the thought of going to a pub with some work colleagues says it all really. Afraid of what he’d see - people sitting around talking and drinking a few drinks and complaining about the state of the jacks is mostly what happens. He thought he was going to end up in Stringfellows or Studio 54!

Imagine the scene in the Joy when the new prisoner saw who he was to cell-share with, before Enoch was moved to Castlerea. A clear case of cruel and unusual punishment.

I think you need to separate the "Education" from the "Life skills" parts here.

Clearly they got a very good "education" at home from their mother - All of them went to University and graduated with advanced degrees , Masters , PhDs etc.

However, the lack of interaction with other people of different faiths , or even others with different "levels" of faith allied to what was clearly some hardcore religious indoctrination has left them utter incapable of functioning properly in modern society.

If mammy had just stuck to the curriculum and allowed the kids to join local clubs and societies etc. to experience the world , home schooling would have been fine..

How different would Enoch et al be if they'd been part of the local football/hurling/soccer/rugby clubs or whatever through their childhood?

If you want to go further down the rabbit hole. Here's an essay Ammi wrote back 2014 about "The Christian Worldview" - fire and brimstone stuff:

It’s actually a wonderful insight into what makes this whole family tick - apparently this is a “lifelong” journey that they’re on so really there’s no hope of any of them waking up to reality -and naturally enough, a good dig at Catholicism along the way- maybe if catholics shouted more and didn’t listen, they’d be less like satan 😀

"Such a doctrine from Hell has darkened the minds of countless souls not least in Ireland, a stronghold of Romanism."

There's endless truly demented sentences in there. Not that it's a surprise.

Maybe they caught the bauld Enoch having a "pedal & crank" in the back of the van. 😁

There is no arguing with that level of indoctrination.

Yep they’re definitely sucking hell fire and brimstone daily - you can see the impact that has on their interactions with the outside world.

Personally I think they’re afraid of the world and their only coping mechanism is to shout at it
