I've booked a house in Castleisland fir a family trip. There's 7 of us heading down my husband, my daughter home from Australia with her Australian friend, my son and the 2 grandmother's. They wanted to see dingle and I found a great deal for a newly renovated house in Castleisland thinking we can drive around dingle and head back to Castleisland as there'll surely be music in the pubs there in the evening. When I told them they didn't think it was a great plan cos they wanted to show our Australian friend around dingle area and stay in dingle.

I'm not familiar with the areas. Can someone tell me if they're will be music in pubs etc in Castleisland and is it doable to see dingle peninsula and all the lovely scenery on a day trip from castleisland. We're only there for 2 nights.

Look up Brownes, Tom McCarthys, or The Crown on FB and enquire about music the nights you are visiting, if its the weekend there surely will be.

Dingle is a 1 hour drive away, this time of year you will pay a fortune to stay in Dingle, go visit, have some food and drinks and drive back. Castleisland is also convenient to drive the Ring of Kerry or visit Killarney (25Mins)

If they really want to stay let them tag on a day or two at the end and let them fly back to dublin, around €20 with Ryanair

Castleisland is an OK base for exploring around Kerry, however if they are after the night life in Dingle or Kerry, would be best to stay in Dingle or Killarney.
Dingle would have much more live music and much more lively compared to Castleisland.(expect for O'Keefe festival in October) For a tourist it probably would be better to say there, but of course cost is high because of this.
If night life not as much as a priority then staying in Castleisland should be grand, and could see some of the pubs in Dingle during the day for a quick 1 or 2

Glanageenty https://www.coillte.ie/site/glanageenty/ and Crag Cave are close to Castleisland and worth a visit.

Tralee is very close to Castleisland and would have music in a lot of bars this time of year. I wouldn't bother staying in Dingle when you are only about an hour away. Its very expensive this time of year. If you have a designated driver you would be better off just coming back to Castleisland.

Don't mean to be resurrecting an old thread, and it's slightly off-topic, but did The Crown bar close in Castleisland? Seen a post on FB about a restaurant opening in there, maybe just expanding to do food?

The crown is closed since Oct BH weekend, but it is re-opening as a restaurant. A place in listowel is opening a new branch

Ya that's what I saw, unusual as any time I was in there it was busy. Maybe owner retired or something?

I think the guy who was renting it is now renting a bar up the road from it
