They're selling more to Liverpool fans, it will be full

But they're only allowing transfer to people who had a membership before January to try and prevent Galatasaray fans buying off people with credits

Reading the Arsenal.thread you'd swear theu were having the same season as us!

In fairness our goalkeeper setup and planning has been pretty stellar for the last half dozen years, including this year, and that's really saying something when we have struggled in so many other areas of the pitch.

If you consider the attributes you would apply to an elite coach and then rate Slot.

Youth Integration - poor no interest.

    Physical Conditioning - not good.

GAME management - reactive rather than proactive management.

Status over form - no consequences for performance when players have a certain status. The flip side is snap judgement on others.

Motivation - Seems not to value engagenent - group seems to lack energy and drive.

Could go on with that list should have gone after PSV

Ornstein on The Athletic podcast today says the board strongly back Slot, and if we were looking to recruit someone now he would still be top of the list. Doesn't think it's likely we change in the summer.

I really hope the conversations behind the scenes are very different, and that the club are just keeping their cards close to their chest. I can't understand how going into next season with Slot could be a remotely viable option.

The board are always going to put out they back him until the end of the season.

From what I've read his family are still in Holland.

This must be really difficult for Slot too. I could see this being a reason for an ammicable parting of ways.

Needing to get back home to family and taking a time out like Klopp

Selective data there. It's 6 years ago Adrian cost us dearly 6 years ago, practically to the dsy..

I have no issue with Mama BTW.

He hasn't impressed in the games he played 4 or 5 months ago and had a decent game yesterday tbf.

Kelleher has seasons, trophies, national team performances over 3 or 4 years to back him.

Fingers crossed on Mam but qe absolutely do not have the Data yet to make Kelleher comparisons.

Does Mamadashvili not have over 150 senior starts? He's also the Georgian keeper and has been for a while (at least before we were linked with him because I remember reading it at the time).

Imo either slot or richard hughes will go. Someone has to take the blame for thr fiasco of this season. Alot of it is recruitment

But the bad form from likes of gravenberch mcallister, konate at times has to be down to slot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,438 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

It's worth noting that Richard Hughes's contract finishes in 2027, the same summer as Slot's.

Both of them are probably fighting for their future, and are inherently linked.

Hughes might well back Slot, but that's purely because Slot is his man, and his man can't be seen as a failure as that means he is a failure as sporting director.

I'm assuming the post was judging him based on his Liverpool appearances given he played yesterday for the first time since October.

Open question whether what Kelleher did for Liverpool at the top end of the Cl/PL and cup finals is up there with what Mama did with Valencia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,770 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Is there anyone who has improved or gotten better since the start of 2025? Have they improved as a unit?

These things are not in Hughes. He's not without fault, but that squad is not thriving under this management team.

Gravenberch improved alot under him in first season but has regressed this season.

Fwiw I think they should get rid of slot too.

Think that's playing him down a bit… he was Valencia's player of the season when we bought him. Was also one of the standout keepers at the Euros, and was the Georgian footballer of the year in 2024, ahead of Kvaratskhelia. He's got more international appearances than Kelleher, and far more senior top flight club appearances, despite being 2 years younger. I love Kelleher, but I don't think it's true to say the data isn't there on Mamardashvili.

I would say Szobo improved for the most part this season, although had some stutters. Also I thought Jones early in the season was playing very well, but then dropped off. Wirtz of course got way better after a couple of months. Eketike was consistently very good.

Other than that though pretty much everyone else went from bad to worse, and back to bad again with the exception of a handful who were consistently ok (Robertson comes to mind).

I wouldn't be surprised if the board would be happy with 5th this season, and 5th next season too tbh. It's a business at the end of the day. It's a very different decision making process behind the scenes with many more factors than the performance on the pitch, which is much lower down the list of considerations, if it's even on there at all. Arsenal under Wenger spent nigh on a decade just getting 3rd or 4th.

Looks like it will be zero PL club wins out of 6 in the CL this game week, which for all the talk up of the strength of the league this year is a bit of an indictment. Most of the European clubs tend not to switch on until the business end of the competition.

I don't think you spend what they did on Wirtz, Ekitike, and Isak to be happy with 5th in back to back years.

Kelleher is quite inexperienced for his age and not sure if he really is an elite level Number 1, he did well filling in at Liverpool, but, was never going to displace Allison, has done well at Brentford as first choice. Mamardashvili is more experienced at a younger age, was outstanding at Euro 2024 and I think he has a higher ceiling than Kelleher. He was unlucky when he got his chance last autumn as we were right in the middle of our worst form and he probably hadn't even settled. I think when he settles he'll be fine and eventually be the Number 1

I do not think the squad is where they should be physically. At the top where we compete it is the small margins that make a difference and if you are not where you should be physically it will catch up with you. I wonder if our conceding so many late goals is due to this.

But the reason we are not where we need to be is down to one thing. Our pre-season was wrecked and this has meant we have been playing catch-up the whole season. Add in some bad luck with the way our signings turned out it has meant we have been a wreck the whole season.

I am not Slot in or Slot out, I just want the team to win. If that is with Slot, then great, if that is with someone else then I will be fine. But I am worried that people have made up their minds already and it doesn't matter what happens, they are actively hoping for us to lose to be proven right. If that is the case then he will need to go as any loss will be blamed on the manager whether he is at fault or not and you cannot be successful as a club if some of the support is actively hoping you lose.

The league is competitive but PSG and Real are always dangerous. We're awful most games so you're never sure what we'll do. Arsenal should be beating Leverkusen and Newcastle were unlucky not to win last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

I don't think last Summer's spend is going to be the make or break. In any case Isak transfer was an absolute sh*tshow that Slot is not responsible for, and Wirtz and Ekitike have been standout players, so not really sure why that is a factor really.

Is this going to put the 5th spot for champs league in jeopardy, or is that already decided?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

Now you're worried people have made up their minds? Where have you been for the last 4 months, most people who want him out have long made up their minds, back in November.

Personally I support the team, and trust the club management to make the right decision for the future, whenever that time comes. It's a hard watch right now though that is for sure.

I was wondering the same thing.

It's highly likely Chelsea, City, Spurs are already gone. Newcastle likely to lose at Neu camp. Arsenal with their lucky penalty should be able to close the deal, and we hopefully can too, but 1 or 2 teams getting to the quarters is much lower than expectations.

EDIT: I looked it up and it seems that it is probably too big a gap to close, and premier league is 90% likely to get a 5th allocation.
