Hate see any of the 3 of them go but its fair points too.

2 CMs and 2 FB are priority in summer though still

    EVENFLOW

All this with our lightest schedule ever. It won't get easier.

All 3 are very good players which is what makes you hope but yeah at a certain stage you have to just admit that paying wages and giving squad places to players who can't stay fit is just not going to work not matter how good they CAN be.

I just don't see how we sell any of them. Who is going to come in for them, due to the same reasons we want to sell them?

Martinez i think is out of contract in 27, so we probably don't need much for him to not make a loss, but is selling him simply to not make a loss worth it?
MDL not sure his contract is, but he's missed 3+ months. No one is going to touch him til he can prove his fitness.
Mount… he's on big money AND misses most of the season most of the time.

I think Martinez and MDL create a big problem here as well on this. I think we will struggle to sell them, and if we can't then we have a defensive set of MDL, Martinez, Yoro, Heaven and maybe Maguire? Can we afford to add another 100-150k wage defender when we are paying 5 senior players as is? If they are still here we have to plan on using them, really.

    Very messy.
    Very difficult to solve.

Easy to say sell and replace, hard to do it practically.

Have to keep Maguire at the club so. Be mad to let him walk.

I really hope INEOS don't ignore the defence this summer like they did with midfield last summer. Both midfield and defence need strengthening. We'll be thrown to shreds next season if we're relying on the same defence to get us into knockout territory in Europe and top 4.

I really hate how those twitter aggregators CAPITALISE random WORDS in every post

Saw a comment on reddit last night, last time OT witnessed a knock out CL goal was Lukaku's consolation against Sevilla in 2018. Thats shocking.

That knockout win over PSG in 2019 the main UCL highlight since Ferguson retired.

We've only made it past the Round of 16 in the UCL twice since Fergie left, and the first time was the year after Fergie retired. Hopefully we can get back to those nights in the near future.

When ya put it like that… it really does hit home

I've lost a lot of interest in the CL in recent years when it's the likes of Pool, City, PSG, Real etc.. going for wins.
Not exactly the clubs you "wouldn't mind see do well"…

Hope Bayern win it this year.

We either sell, which is admittedly difficult, or what we did with the high earners and loan them out and get at least some of those wages off the books. We are going to continually struggle with the likes of Martinez, MDL, Shaw, Mount in the squad. They are on far too much money compared to their actual availability and it's been allowed to go on for far too long. It's doable but definitely difficult and that's why the back office need to step up and get rid of players who are just completely unreliable fitness wise.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

If all the English clubs get knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16 round, I’m guessing this has a knock on effect and we will need to be in the top 4 now.

Was about to ask the same question. Id fancy Arsenal to get through but City, Liverpool and Spurs all on the brink of going out. What does that mean for the top 5 and Champions league places

    Chelsea also on the brink

Happy we've got Lammens. Feel there could be some big goalkeeper moves this summer, Chelsea and Spurs both be in the market for 2 keepers each after the last few days.

Right now it's looking like England and Germany taking the extra spots, with Spain and Italy challenging behind. Think Liverpool have a decent shout of going through - Newcastle is a big one though, if they win at Barca's expense it really swings it towards England and away from Spain.

I think the gap is pretty big anyway though, so as long as English sides do a half decent job 5th should be safe.

the fact that all 6 English sides (100%) made the last 16 is already a very good result for the league. Only 50% of the German sides, 60% of the Spanish and 25% of the Italians made it to this stage. All 3 clubs in the Europa/Conf are still there as well.

I reckon we will still be in the market, but just not for a first choice. I reckon Bayindir goes back to Turkey and I assume we want to get rid of Onana, so we will need a back up. Vitek will get pushed for that, but I think that would be a bad move for both us and him. If he returns here he won't get many games which will stunt his development, and that harms us for a value perspective and him from a playing perspective.

I reckon we will try to sign Sam Johnstone.

Decent keeper, experienced, and would count as a club trained home grown player for us. It just makes so much sense from our side. But he might still want to push for first team football somewhere and may not have an interest in being a back up.

Vitek could come back and challenge Lammens for the No 1 spot

Ye and with Villa, Palace, Forrest all still in European competitions it should be nearly certain that England will get another place due to the coefficient.

UEFA treat all their competitions equally for coefficient points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,304 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

He could, but I unless the club are confident he will I don't see the value in it. And, I assume, the club would have looked at that evaluation in the summer and didn't consider Vitek as being near ready, and Lammens was. Obviously 12 months later the evaluation can change. But I would still think it better to have Vitek continue to develop with first team football next season, and look to make a decision the following summer on him. If he comes back, and only ends up playing some cup games his development will regress and his value drop. Has to be managed well, imo.

We definitely need to sign an experienced keeper. Lammens getting injured has to be the biggest fear in the run in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,577 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

To me, we've become that 'How will they cope with European football" club.

That's if we get it, obviously.

But the thought of having a squad capable for 50-60 games a season seems a huge ask from where we are now. You're probably talking about an additional 7 or 8 players this summer. And that talk doesn't seem too realistic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Marcos Senesi should be an even bigger no brainier of a transfer this summer. PL proven and a free agent.

These never seem to happen though do they! He will end up at Barca or Chelsea…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Our approach is to spend big a year before the contract expires because nobody else will…

Half joking there of course, but yeah good players available on a free have the pick of a lot of big clubs, and for most good players, Man United is not top of their list.

The summer signings were good players, but there was no big competition really. It’s nice knowing Mbeumo only wanted us, but the alternatives were Spurs and Newcastle. Champions League football next season boosts our attractiveness of course. On the overall though, we won’t have shaken off the unstable, inconsistent perception from the last few years with a CL qualification this season. How we fare next season will be a lot more telling of where we’re at.

Chelsea line up was leaked last night, can't imagine who would do such a thing.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,801 ✭✭✭Corvo

My only hope is that there are enough football people at the club to understand that IF they do make it back to CL football, that it takes significant investment to stay in it.

Can't believe Marcus Rashford would do such a thing. what a snake.
