Seeing us adopt Arsenal tactics that the manager was castigating Arsenal for only 2 weeks ago.. Slot has turned full Rodgers. An absolute spoofer.

Another awful performance, lost count of how many we've had this season. Wouldn't be confident at all that we turn it around.

Has Rio ever played on the right though? His whole game is cutting in onto his right foot to shoot. As a kid I'd be inclined to primarily use him in situations he's fully comfortable and confident in.

I'm ok with Frimpong as the first sub for Mo… would've liked it earlier though. Or else changing formation altogether and going Ekitike and maybe Gakpo as a two.

The halcyon days of Robbo & Trent bombing down the lines whipping in assists and of Mane, Firmino & Salah’s one touch intricate passing in tight areas creating and scoring are but a distant memory.

In fairness Klopp wasn't available in the summer, I'm sure they would have gone for him.

I think with the World Cup on the horizon there will be a bunch of decent managers churn in the Summer, and everyone is probably holding out for that, including managers who are available now themselves like Alonso.

I don't think that atmosphere tonight when we're chasing a game is the right time to bring Rio on. Gakpo hasn't been great on the right either so the right move was to bring him on left wing. Saying that though I would have started Gakpo because Wirtz only coming back from injury wasn't going to have any rhythm.

I think Slot gets another season if he gets Champions League. The squad isn't big enough and the players we have, barring a few, are unable to play a string of 90+ minute games together.

With everything that has gone on, I don't think any manager would be able to do much better.

If we get some wingers, a good number 6 and improve the defence, then I think Slot will perform better.

I can see why people are fed up with everything though. It's draining.

I think that's still a possibility - but only if there's a major vibe shift in the next two months. If things continue at all like they are, he's gone. Really needs to get a run of strong performances to show he can get this team playing cohesively again to save his job. Even with any injuries etc, this collection of players is simply better than they've been showing.

    Lads forget it...it's Slot-town

I wouldn't be surprised if we do get champions league that they let him start out next season. The question becomes what is the transfer strategy in Summer, and what to do about his contract, maybe they say if you can achieve xyz by Christmas we'll give you a new one.

If we don't finish top 5 though I'd say he's unlikely to stay, and given the performances of late I don't think the CL or FA cup is on the cards really either.

Agree though a lot of the players have been woeful this season, and another clearout is probably needed unfortunately. Could be a rebuilding season next year as well.

OMG Spurs. At least poor Karius waa concussed when he had his nightmare.

In other news Spurs are sacking their manager tonight i reckon. Would have been better for us if he stayed.

if it was a Liverpool team of the past (except one of Hodgson's) i'd most likely agree and am usually very optimistic but I'm starting to lose hope and this season will be a dead rubber… making the same mistakes, time and time again….. rinse and repeat….

Spurs juat dont have the players to get out of this.

The senior players they need are long term injured

The problem is I don't recognise this team. The way it plays is the antithesis to what defines the club - passion, energy, proactivity.

It's sterile, lifeless, reserved and safe.

    I hate watching us.

I can live with mistakes. I can't live with this way of playing football.

This is the main reason i would replace even if we scrape CL places.

I don't even recognize a style that I disagree with, its like the worst of most worlds. Without some idea of what the plan is ,we can't keep him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Even in games we won how many this season did you come away saying you really enjoyed it and we played really well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

Personally I don't like watching us because we're not comfortable on the ball, and don't score goals for far too long in a game, and we're constantly under threat of conceding.

If we were just winning games though, I personally wouldn't care at all how we played, not in the slightest. I've sat through enough dross in the decades of supporting this club that what defines us is less about heavy metal, and consistent forward passing, and more about cold hard trophies imo.

United used to harp on about the united way in the first few seasons after Fergie left, and it got them nowhere.

We've had 3 outstanding performances in 12 odd months now, PSG at home, Inter away, Real at home, in that time i can't remember any outstanding performance in the league.

I hate to say it but it's becoming a chore to watch us, i believe the talent is there but we never really see much evidence of it.

The lack of a decent press from the front is the biggest disappointment for me.

Christ on a bike, Spurs are really fucked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The Rooster

We didnt play well today. We also didnt play sterile, lifeless, reserved, safe football. Nonsense analysis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,924 ✭✭✭Damien360

That's exactly how I described watching Liverpool to my Utd buddy on Saturday night. A chore to watch.

Any hear what tonights excuses are from Slot ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,847 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Id say it's been representative of the season.

Bad as tonight was, there was no low block so the game seemed to entice the neutrals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,681 ✭✭✭A2LUE42

I thought at one stage that Vandeven might be a good signing, but what I've seen of him lately, he'd just be another liability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,371 ✭✭✭brevity

Yea it's all over the shop.

If he gets another season and we're still playing like this then it's time for a change. I don't think he wants us to be playing like this but the squad is so unbalanced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,443 ✭✭✭facehugger99

Crowd really made a difference for them this evening. You can see why they haven't lost a CL knockout tie since 1973.

Hope the Anfield crowd next Wednesday lay off the prawn sandwiches and produce something similar. There's no away fans so there's no excuses.

A game of 2 halves, the second half was textbook us this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

I'd say the Tottenham game to win the league last year creeps in to the 12 month timeframe. We basically destroyed them. I know the league was a big motivator but it was a smashing perfomance.
This year is slim pickings. 1-0 against Arsenal wasn't a good controlled game, but not outstanding, 4-1 against Newcastle was prob the best we've played this year I suppose, but again nothing too amazing.

It definitely feels like a chore every time I have to watch a game of ours I will say.

    Yeah pretty much this.

I'm happy to give Slot a chance to turn it around after a proper preseason and Isak back

There's a lot more changes to happen

Robertson, Salah, Chiesa, Elliott, Tsimikas, Endō, Konaté, Jones, Alisson, Mac Allister, Gomez, Gakpo

Would you put your house on any single one of these players being at the club next season? I'm not saying all will go, but I wouldn't be comfortable saying that any of that dozen players will be definitely at the club

Like it or not we're still in transition and the thing that is keeping me going is that I genuinely believe in all of the signings we've made
