I don't think you understand this screen. Most people set it to come on when you are inputing a pin code. There are various settings but I can't imagine anyone using it on full 24/7 unless you are watching porn 24/7.

I have mine set for when I'm entering a pin. I have it set for when I'm using a banking app etc. Only when I might need privacy. For everyday, regular use it's not activated. The rest of the time it's not in use

I haven't signed for a delivery in 6 years. Yet I received my new Samsung last Friday

I'd be wondering if the Outterbox caused the damage?

    S26U or Oneplus 15?

    Currently using S24U

Samsung galaxy s25 1tb was a bad trade in on CEX. Samsung offered a better trade in BUT more importantly CEX can & will downgrade your phone from A to B. Samsung trade-in will keep it at A unless it is seriously marked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭ImTiredOfItAll

More likely to increase in price if anything. The real thing is the discounts. If you don't buy now then typically you can wait 6 months to get these prices again

I was stunned. Mine transferred the physical Sim on my S25u onto the esim on the S26u. I didn't think this was possible without involving the carrier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭ImTiredOfItAll

I got caught out on my daughter's S23u. I paid for a genuine Samsung screen expecting an A rating we with CEX. I was told in the store that A rating is almost exclusively on brand new phones still sealed in the box. Who has a S23u still in the box??

    It turned me off CEX

Of course buying the phone outright (or through 0% interest with Humm) + SIMO/PAYG will always be the best value. But for people who can't avail of Humm or are paying €55 with eir broadband instead of €65 I don't think it's terrible value considering you can just walk into a shop and walk out with a phone, no faffing with trade-ins or discount codes required. 55*24 = €1320 compared to €1499 through Samsung. Obviously not including eir's yearly price increase or Samsung's trade-in/offers.

I don't think you understand the screen.

The means to enable colour switching capabilities involves a new layer method of allowing colours through. The overly screen is dimmer than previous models because of the new hardware not because the privacy is activated. It's even darker when it's activated wholly or in parts of the screen. It's part of the tech it's a compromise for the tech.

Anyways some folks won't notice , most will if they have had last year's phone. It's not as vibrant.

*Just explaining so you know how it works. Doesn't impact me not a slight on the decide just context.

That's really interesting. I haven't heard of any network in Ireland supporting that yet. What network are you with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 34,893 ✭✭✭✭listermint

It's objectively worse value. And you'd be made to pay extra couple of hundred 'just because'. And there's scant few who won't qualify for humm tbh .

Although phone provides count on large bill paying customers not to care, and be locked in because of new devices it's part of the business model.

Three prepay. I think it's called Hero. The original Sim no longer works after the transfer..

I was concerned about travelling & needing the esim slot but it seems that the S26u supports several esims

Mine is just the standard s26 and worked perfect without the SIM. I'm with 3 bill pay

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

I returned a S23u to Samsung because of a fault on the vivid desplay that many didn't notice. They sent me our a 1tb version to make up for the inconvenience.

Trust me when I tell you this, I know a good screen from a bad screen.

The screen is the exact same as the s23u, s24 u and S25u. It's only darker when you turn on the private screen.

You only need privacy screen if on banking apps etc. There are settings where privacy mode is only used for pin apps or you can set what apps you want to use privacy mode to work on. The rest of the time the screen is exactly the same as older models

If you don't want to use it then you can turn it off and you have the usual amazing Samsung screen.. I only use it on banking apps

It's not like the s23u where a software update was needed to restore the Samsung VIVID screen

Of course it's worse value but many people are happy to pay the premium for the sheer convenience of it. You'd be surprised to hear the amount of people we deal with in work who finished paying off their phone years ago but are still paying €65+ a month just because they haven't been arsed going in about an upgrade. Don't underestimate the laziness of people! This applies to eir/3/Vodafone whereas Sky and Virgin automatically switch you to SIMO when the phone is paid off.

That's really interesting especially because 3 don't make it particularly easy to switch to eSim and can charge a €15 ex VAT fee after the first switch. On iPhones you can convert a pSim to eSim and easily move eSims between devices but it has to be supported by the network first, and no Irish networks support it.

I was bill pay for decades but realized that I can get unlimited everything with three Sim only "hero" for €15 every 28 days. This allows me to buy premium phones for cash save a small fortune.

My last phone was S25u 1tb. I just followed the transfer instructions. I was stunned to see my physical Sim transferred to my S26u as an esim without contacting three. Absolutely everything was transferred in less than an hour.

The S26 has many added features. I already have a network voicemail but my new phone let's me you the phone itself as a voicemail. I can interrupt the voice mail and take the call mid message.

There are so many extra things available. AI allows me to see more info about who is calling me,with call screening.

I used voice recording yesterday in the coroners court. Almost 60 minutes in totally. Again I was stunned to see a complete text transcript of the audio. I may never need this feature again but I am stunned by each new feature I discover

    Absolutely not.

You obviously don't have an S26u. The screen only dims when private Mode is selected.

Trust me when I tell you this, the S26u screen is the exact same as the S25u screen when you don't engage the private mode

Three definitely do, at least on corporate accounts.

I did a pSIM to eSIM last year on Three and an eSIM to eSIM transfer worked for me on Friday when I was moving across from my previous Samsung.

Also, they may list charging for replacements but I've yet to see it actually enforced.

By right it should work with Eir/GoMo - deleting the eSIM profile off one handset frees up the QR code to be re-scanned by a new handset. Whereas if you scan a QR code while the associated eSIM is still active in a handset, it fails. This is fairly similar in terms of what goes on behind the scenes when doing eSIM to eSIM transfer.

I'm not going to boil the ocean here on this have a great time with your device. But it's not the same hardware as the previous 2 models.

It's not even the same tech stack. It's NIT brightness has been tested functionally to around 1900 nits from the S25Us 2600 nits and when private enabled it can get down to under 600 nits per design.

This means it's simply not as bright. That as I said is part of the compromise of having the privacy functionality it's part of the accepted design change (which is fine)

    Why all the hate?

I sat out in the sun on Sunday with my S25u and S26u and the S26u definitely had the brighter screen OR better software to give better screen view in direct sunlight. I literally had both phones in each hand and the 26u was noticeably better

Obviously you don't have an S26u in your hand. You wouldn't have made this post if you did

I agreed with you before. I do believe that for the average person a trade up every 3 or 4 years is all that's required BUT there are improvements with each new model.

Hands on the S26u is noticeably brighter than the S25u in direct sunlight

Ah, if it's a business account it can be completely different terms altogether. eir SMB accounts don't support eSim at all for example.

You're right in regards to charging for a Sim replacement. GoMo/eir charge €5/€10 for a replacement on paper, but in reality it's not actually charged so glad to hear 3 are the same.

I must see about the QR code being reusable in eir because I had problems with it myself. The newly generated QR code wouldn't work so I had to switch to pSim and then back to eSim to get it working. No problem for me but possibly an issue for normal customers.

Hopefully Samsung will bring this feature to their other devices. I know it's there on paper but has always failed for me trying to do an eSim transfer without involving the mobile network.

Ah jesus fella. I've just explained how it works and why that's ok. And you seem to see that as hate. I haven't once said it's a bad device will you give over. Just accept it works differently and why . And stop saying I'm hating on the phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭ImTiredOfItAll

You are posting rubbish and it's obvious that you don't actually have a s26. I literally have a S25u and a S26u. You are trying to tell me that what I see is wrong.

I do remember you as a poster that couldn't tell the difference when the S24u (I think) fecked up on the vivid desplay. You couldn't see a problem but there was an update just to correct the fault

Ordered the S26U last night off three. Got the confirmation email around 10pm that the phone would be delivered shortly but I haven't received any text off DPD. This evening the sky blue model I ordered was out of stock but was in stock during the day. I hope it's not going to be delayed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 34,893 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Our DPD sends the WhatsApp texts the morning of delivery. Never night before. So you may be fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 666 ✭✭✭jonny_b

Maybe so... I usually get two messages off DPD, one when the order is scheduled in the system and then another the morning of delivery with a timeframe. I guess we will see in the morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭feargantae

Just in case it's of any use of anyone the Buds were delivered today by DPD so they're not wrong about their next day delivery! Rather annoyingly though, despite between signature required, the DPD driver just left the parcel at my front door. Only for the doorbell cam telling me there was a parcel outside it could have been taken.

Ah bugger it, pulled the trigger last minute. I don't know what happened with the site, but the price dropped to €1070 for the 512GB ultra and €930 for the 256GB. Figured I don't really need the 512GB, even though I've managed to fill my existing one with crap, plus the 256GB still had Silver Shadow, which made the decision easier.
