We’re bad but they’re also fairly rubbish. Will still win at home handy imo.

Their goal disallowed for no reason a blessing. Think we’ll stick 3/4 past them at Anfield

It hasn't. We've not been great, should have scored and managed to concede just the one. These travel poorly also, so overall this isn't a disaster.

    We are terrible, going nowhere

I'd kill for a homer ref like this in the second leg. He's been a disgrace and I rarely give out about referees

So much of our problems on show tonight

But, as in previous years, 0-1 away wouldn't be a huge issue.

    Can still take this back.

    Fairly shambolic.

Can only be relieved its Galatasaray and we still have a chance but it was all setup for us to score 3 or 4 tonight - no low block excuses - and we were bad

The clown show stumbles on. Zero confidence of turning them over in Anfield.

Really good first 6 minutes, pretty poor following 84 minutes. Lucky that it's still very much alive at least, would still expect us to go through just about.

    Their disallowed goal is horsesh1t

First goal ever disallowed from second hand embarrassment

Becoming a broken record but is there a reason Rio wasn't brought on after a good performance against Wolves?

Think both disallowed goals were totally wrong.

They specifically said Konate's was only disallowed because he was the scorer, and the rule is clear that the ball cannot touch the hand/arm of the scorer even if fully accidental - but it's clear he wouldn't have been the scorer, the ball was coming back out again, and then hit Virg and a few more bobbles before going back in.

Should've been 2-1 really, so can't complain too much about both sides getting screwed with bad calls that even each other out.

We'll probably turn them over in Anfield but we won't go beyond the next round.

FA Cup exit pending against Man City.

I've been more "Slot in" than just about anyone but I'm now of the opinion that he's unable to improve this team.

I'd look at alternatives in the summer.

Wide open game but both offences should have done better, both defences quite clumsy. Replays strongly indicate both teams unlucky to get a goal ruled out.

    Frustrating overall

we got a few soft yellow cards, which could be very costly later in the tournament.

Wirtz was clearly rusty, so hopefully that game brings him on.

Yeah, that's where I'd be. I'd let him see out the season, and then replace in the summer.

Looking at Slot replacements in the summer is like looking for batteries for the smoke detector after the house burned down.

I hope Konate leaves - there has to be an upgrade out there somewhere. There’s a performance like that in him every 3 or 4 games.
Not bothered if McAllister moves on either. We need a powerful midfielder in there.

The club's still going to exist in the summer. I hate mid-season appointments, unless the stars really align (as they did with Klopp), or the players are in open revolt.

He absolutely deserves that for winning the league last season.

We're now at the business end of the season and our performance level has dropped off again.

Probably scrape through at home but we will go no further.

Ya without champions league football. An absolute disaster for the club on and off the pitch that could have serious consequences for years to come. It's not a clean reset.

I just saw the score . Embarrassing .

Though those calling forSlots head are being premature . I hope

Possibly, but we've seen scrum goals like our one ruled out in the past, and frankly, if they had scored that down our end we'd be spittin' if it came about in the same manner. Ruling it out was a handy enough decision for the officials, as they usually are in Turkey, so to speak. With the amount of pushing and shoving going on for and against, I'm astonished the ref didn't blow for a free out immediately.

It's not really an observation about the merits of both decisions, their one is just far more of a problem call IMO, and if any team should feel properly aggrieved right now, it's probably them.

No guarantee that switching improves the chances, especially if it's a 'systems' manager like Alonso who really really needs time to implement his game plan. Also far more options available in the summer. it's better to get the right guy for the longer term than jump the gun on someone right now.

I also still expect us to finish top 5 - not necessarily because we're good, but because everyone going for is it falling over themselves.

There is no area where we are improving, every game is the same old messing. Two poor sides there, Europa Cup level stuff. A reflection on how poor a once great tournament has become.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,329 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

I know we should only care about the tie, and we should be confident for the second leg.

But we have to think bigger picture.

This is another nail in Slot's coffin for the end of the season. There is still no discernible pattern to anything. Just passive defence, and hope for a moment in attack, or probably a set piece.

    Bizarre.

Salah was a statue first half. He's completely done imo.

Rio should have replaced him at halftime.

Gakpo immediately improved us on the left, and has a bit of chemistry with Robbo who came on at the same time, so I'm not that upset about him and his experience being picked ahead of Rio.

I'd have liked Rio on in front of Frimpong (or swapping Gakpo to the right in front of Frimpong with Rio left) in the last 10 alright, but I can understand that we were exposed enough on the right without going all out attack with an attacking fullback behind a forward - coughing up a second goal late on would've maybe killed the tie, whereas at 1-0 we're very much still in it.
