There are many claims about the numbers of deaths.

You are choosing to believe the numbers put out by the monstrous Iranian regime who killed their own people.

    https://time.com/7357635/more-than-30000-killed-in-iran-say-senior-officials/

"As many as 30,000 people could have been killed in the streets of Iran on Jan. 8 and 9 alone, two senior officials of the country’s Ministry of Health told TIME……….The Health Ministry’s two-day figure roughly aligns with a count gathered by physicians and first responders, and also shared with TIME. That surreptitious tally of deaths recorded by hospitals stood at 30,304 as of Friday, according to Dr. Amir Parasta, a German-Iranian eye surgeon who prepared a report of the data."

"As of Saturday, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said it had confirmed 5,459 deaths and is investigating 17,031 more."

Think I will stick with the "reported 30,000 deaths" given the evidence in Time Magazine.

    https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2026/jan/27/iran-protests-death-toll-disappeared-bodies-mass-burials-30000-dead

"Estimates of the number killed vary substantially, hampered by the ongoing internet shutdown. The Iranian government has acknowledged more than 3,000 dead, and the US-based organisation HRANA (Human Rights Activists News Agency), whose figures have been reliable during previous crackdowns, says it has verified more than 6,000 dead and has more than 17,000 more recorded deaths under investigation, giving a possible total of about 22,000. Other estimates from doctors based outside Iran range up to 33,000 or more.

Testimony from morgues, graveyards and hospitals around the country reveal concerted efforts by authorities to conceal the true size of the toll: bodies being transported in ice-cream vans and meat trucks; piles of the dead being hastily buried; and hundreds of bodies apparently disappearing from Iran’s network of forensic facilities."

Yeah, that right-wing Guardian settling on 30,000 as well.

Do you want to double-down and accept the numbers from the Iranian government, the government that shut off the internet so its citizens couldn't tell the world what was being done to them.

It is interesting how successfully the Israelis seem to be currently at limiting information on damage to their country - there are very few reports on it at all. I'd imagine they have taken significant damage.

Very true. I saw reports in X, I’m not sure how accurate they are, about a park being bombed, because it was called “Police Park”. The insinuation was that it had been targeted by AI.

Don't expect any standards on that. Neither will you see them condemn the war crimes of the Iranians. The BBC are reporting:

"I've just heard from a mother in Mehrshahr - an upmarket neighbourhood of Karaj, a city near the Iranian capital Tehran - following a night of what has been described by some people there as the most intense strikes of the campaign so far.

The woman in her 50s claims she heard Iranian forces had moved into residential areas "and are even staying in places like hospitals and schools, which has put people in even greater danger"."

Of course, if the US or Israel eliminate Iranian troops staying in a school, we will have the usual shrill double standards denouncing them.

So will you finally retract your repeated claim the school bombing was Iranian?

Tagging @Enduro for visibility of bad faith posting.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

That’s something I’ve noticed as well. My previous employer has a pretty large R&D base in Israel, and I know a few people there myself, both Arab and Israeli. Normally, when Israel gets involved in a war, the company’s social media team starts posting massively about shelters, emergency accommodation, supports available for employees and their families, etc. This time, there’s just nothing. It wasn’t even this quiet on October 7th, 2023, and I was still working for them on that day.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

I never understood the whole Iranian Nuke threat, especially considering if the motive for hitting Israel is to protect those Israel is mistreating, because then everyone gets wiped out.

We've had thirty years of usually Israeli "intelligence" sources asserting that Iran is about to get the bomb, any day now, and no one in the western media questions the inconsistencies of these allegations.

What's most hilarious is when you view it from the Iranian point of view the US has attempted to bribe you to play along with this charade, "here's money if you stop developing nuclear capabilities." I'd know it's almost pointless playing along because Israel will repeat the allegations every time they want to murder another few thousand Palestinians.

But now thanks to Trump the whole charade has been punctured. Trump nuts in Texas don't really care what happens in the world as long as the gas tank of their Ford F150 is cheap to fill. Trump could blame Obama for the current spike and most Trump voters will believe him, and then say "thank god that black woman didn't get in" when Trump taco leads to an oil price drop.

One issue from the Iran conflict which is not receiving prominent coverage in Ireland is the plight of the Iranian women's football team.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwy8e978xl8o

At their first match, they refused to sing the Iranian national anthem in protest at the atrocities being committed by the monstrous Iranian regime. Later in the tournament, following threats, they sang it.

"The players were reportedly not able to walk around the hotel unaccompanied and were escorted to a conference room to eat meals, according to a source who spoke to SBS News."

While this is strange to Western ears, it is not unusual in Middle Eastern culture for women to be so controlled.

Five of the women are safe, but the rest of them are facing a return to Iran where their safety is at risk. For the five who chose to stay in Australia, they have now put their families in tremendous jeopardy. Their bravery in standing up to the regime should be honoured.

I am left wondering would they get the same support in Ireland that they got in Australia.

They'll end up storming a girls schools and securing it for a Trump pedo party.

No doubt Netanyahu is focused on that and would expect the Americans to be involved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,181 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

Given that the Americans were already bombing schools, I’m not sure why the presence of Iranian soldiers would make them more vulnerable to attack than the presence of schoolchildren.

Sorry can you point out anywhere I said I believed the numbers put out by the Iranian regime?

That's something else you'll have to retract like your claim that 168 people were murdered in a school from a failed Iranian missile.

Will you retract both false statements?

I wonder will Netanyahu leave Southern Lebanon when this war is over. When he showed his picture of a greater Israel at the UN last year, Gaza and West Bank and Southern Lebanon were part of Israel.

Why wouldn't they? Australia are hardly know for their compassion for Refugees, where as Ireland has taken in 80,000 war refugees.

    Daft thing to wonder.

The mood in Vietnam is very tense. Everyone talking petrol. Caps on how much you can get and colleagues queuing for an hour and a half for just one euro of petrol for their scooters. Prices way up.

l know it's far removed from the destruction in the Middle East but the effects are real. I got a taxi tonight to save fuel in my own motorbike. My wife will come back to the city tomorrow and stay away from work. We are cancelling a trip this weekend because it would be five hours of petrol in her car. The government is recommending work from home and we're not even the most vulnerable country in the region.

    It's all very real.

Like I said, I don't see any reason for Iran to not put this pressure on the rest of the world. America wants allies everywhere but they shaft everyone just to protect Israel.

You left this out of the article you linked.

    Lindsey Graham

“When this regime goes down, we are going to have a new Middle East, and we are going to make a tonne of money,” Graham, a longtime proponent of US military intervention abroad, told Fox News on Sunday.

“Venezuela and Iran have 31 percent of the world’s oil reserves. We’re going to have a partnership with 31 percent of the known reserves. This is China’s nightmare. This is a good investment,” said Graham.

Are you suggesting that the school and the schoolchildren were deliberately targetted by the Americans?

Not daft at all, given the attitude of support towards Iran shown by many.

They were unable to independently verify any figures, yet I have been accused of mistruths when repeating the 33,000 figure, unless of course you believe the official Iranian sources.

So we are on the same page, we both believe that c 30,000 civilians were killed by their own government in Iran.

    Apologies for suggesting anything different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

We do not know the exact figure as the links you sent clearly show, they cannot verify the amount who have died yet.

We can agree that any number is horrendous and shouldn't have happened.

Do we agree that the murders of 168 in a school was not caused by a failed Iranian missile?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 795 ✭✭✭JohnDoe2025

You can't remain on the fence on the number who have died at the hands of the Iranian government in January, yet demand that I come off the fence on something that happened last week.

Why don't folks try meet somewhere in middle. School strike was the U.S./Israel side, and a fair bit more than 3000 Iranians were killed by their own people.
