    Extremely competitive year this year

I've taken a stab at Irish panther in the arkle. Closer we get to Cheltenham, I'm starting to go off El Cairos, starting to lean towards Idaho Sun. Have kocktial diving ap, surprised the mark he got from the British handicapper. Also gone with Roc Dino in the handicaps, but no idea what race he'll line up.

9 day forecast for cheltenham shows no rain, a decent amount of sunshine and 12/13 degree temps. Going likely to be change to good to soft after heavy going for last month

Paul Townend obviously is favourite for top jockey but Mark Walsh has a lot of good mounts. Not many races will have odds on favourites but Mark will have 2 in Majborough and Fact to File provided he runs in the Ryanair. Favourites he may be riding include Dinoblue, Proactif. He has chances with Mighty Park, Kargese, McLaurey, Spillanes Tower, Kaid D'Authie, Kopech De Mee, In The Pocket, Its on the line and Inothewayourthinking

Have day 1's ew patent done.

    1.20, el cairos

    2.40 ole ole

    3.20 jagwar

Hard to see why Lossiemouth is favourite for the Champion Hurdle. Well beaten by BDA at the DRF and may struggle in a truly run 2 mile contest

Looking forward to the contest between Kopek des Bordes and Lulamba, I am going for the former

Could be the best day of the week for English trained horses

Is it me or does every race seems fairly competitive tomorrow. I can't seem to get to a nap for the day.

Can't understand why Lossiemouth is fav either. I think the value bet, 20-1 , is the horse that Paul Nichols supplemented, Tutti Quanti.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,171 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Yes in fact the whole meeting looks competitive. I think Gordon Elliott will go well and got good odds on him having 4 or more.

Sounds like a great bet. You should get a good run for your money

Haven’t got to do as much research on the Festival as other years this year and not sure how much value there is in a lot the prices below, but selections for Day 1 FWTW:

    13:20 - Talk the Talk 4/1
    14:00 - Lulamba 13/8
    14:40 - Saratoga 7/1
    15:20 - Myretown 7/1
    16:00 - Poniros 14/1 e/w
    16:40 - Down Memory Lane 7/1
    17:20 - One Big Bang 7/1

Editing to give very brief rationales for selections:

Talk the Talk - Grade 1 winner from DRF and good vibes from very respected Joseph O’Brien stable.

Lulamba - Second in last year’s Triumph and feel more solid prep gives him the edge over Kopek.

Saratoga - Looks like horse could have a lot of improvement to come from second in Naas race that has produced a few winners of this race.

Myretown - Bolted up in this last year and we have seen horses come and reproduce in this race again in the past, not least stable mate Corach Rambler a few years ago.

Poniros - If a few of the market leaders fail to fire, I can see this horse being bang there, if not anyway.

Down Memory Lane - Potential if delivering on early promise and might prove classier than opponents here.

One Big Bang - Decent Festival form from Pertemps last year and some course form.

Lossiemouth's price is probably based on three previous wins at Cheltenham, whereas Brighter Days Ahead has underperformed twice. Elliot seems convinced she had an issue last year though and didn't run her race. The prices look completely wrong now based on DRF. Wouldnt be overly worried about ground for BDA unless it gets quick, her best career run was Leopardstown Christmas before last on good to yielding. Also backed Alexei ew as a potential improver.

Kopek could be unbeatable but backed Kargese at the prices. She and Romeo Coolio went at it hammer and tongs at the DRF and she matched him at every fence.

Went for El Cairos in the Supreme based on the impression he was creating at Christmas. Looks to have a serious change of gears.

Mustang du Breuil for the fred winter based on grade 2 form last time out against older horses.

Blaze the Way and The Short Go in the Ultima based on course form this season.

No Questions Asked in the Plate as an improving novice. His form against Wendigo and Regents Stroll looks decent.

Backed Mighty Park AP in Supreme, and delighted when confirmed as runner. But worryingly really taking a walk in market since weekend, think was as low as 5/2 at one point, now readily available at 7/1.

Finding very hard to pick out a good winner on Day 1.

So just did some very small Doubles and a Treble on some big outsiders, Might now just sit Day 1 out for now.

PP paying EVENS on Kopek or Lulamba to win as a special - €11.50 max bet (presume that's to market it as £10 over there)

Other than that I'm going with these just for the interest:

    15:20 The Short Go @ 22/1

    16:40 Madara @ 7/2

    17:20 Kurasso Blue @ 13/2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,016 ✭✭✭JIdontknow

For the interest I quickly picked out these to lose some money on! Probably will avoid bets in 2 and 4 o clock races.

    1.20 - Sober Glory ew

2.40 - Pourquoi Pas Papa, Quinta do Lago or dignam each way - trying to narrow down (Went with Quinta do Lago)

    3.20 - Myretown

    4.40 - Zurich

5.20 - King Of Answers or Kurasso Blue ew (Went with King of answers because of the higher price)

    did a 10c ew Canadian.

Have heard owners are very confident on Hyland in the next

Mulling Anzadam could be good ew value in the ch 25-1

    1:20: King Rasko Grey 9/1

    2:00: Romeo Coolio 11/4

    2:40: Farren Glory 22/1 e/w

    4:00: Majborough 10/11

    4:40: Be Aware 4/1

    5:20: Keep Him Company 9/2

1:20: Looks very open, and it could be a case that the English novices are just ahead of the Irish this year. However, chance is taken on KING RASKO GREY to improve from Leopardstown third, as Mullins has suggested he feels he will. Considering Townend has gone for him, it suggests he should be ahead of Sober in the market, and if the Nicholls horse proves beatable, it's hard to see a Mullins first string being too far out of the equation.

2:00: Obviously a question to answer with the late step up in trip, but ROMEO COOLIO is still unbeaten over fences, is a point winner over 3 miles, and I think he can prove to be the class of the field here in what is a very competitive and deep renewal of this race.

2:40: Chance is taken on FARREN GLORY, the mount of Jack Kennedy for Gordon Elliott. HE was a Grade 1 novice hurdle winner, and while he hasn't quite progressed smoothly from there, he has some close form ties with the market leader, Storm Heart, and he looks a good each way bet at the prices.

4:00: Six year olds and odds on shots do not have the best record in the Champion Chase, but MAJBOROUGH can show his class if he can avoid any mishaps, and one feels it is his to lose. Il Etait Temps just doesn't seem to come alive in Cheltenham but if he can put it altogether today I feel he is the biggest danger.

4:40: With some very good runs in graded novice races, BE AWARE looks like he could have too much class for this field. Skeltons have shown that they can produce fancied horses for these kind of races, and I will side with the favourite here.

5:20: The bumper has been nigh on impossible to read in the last few years. Tentative vote goes to KEEP HIM COMPANY who has received market support for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy, but a market check closer to post time might serve as a guide here.
