Code Veronica remake is almost certain. Easter eggs in recent games and insider info say it's due next year.

It's still why I don't think the remake of 4 is as good as everyone says as they almost die away with the silliness, it's there but almost grounded in reality a bit like the Nolan batman movies.

Not sure what series you are playing because it's always been b movie schlock and it's never pretended to be anything else. Even in resident evil 9 Leon is the massive dork he was in 2 and 4.

The series knows what it is and the few stumbles it's have were when it wasn't confident in what the series was and tried to follow market trends.

Resident Evil is at its best when it has the right balance of horror with silliness and humour.

I've been taking my time with this, currently as Grace in the basement and there's such a good balance between the horror and action gameplay. I usually ignore crafting mechanics in games but this is done incredibly well to the point I'm always hunting down resources.

Also, i groaned at Leon's first dad joke but find myself chuckling away whenever he cracks one now, again, great balance between the horror laid out in front of him and silliness of his response.

    Lateish game minor spoiler.

    Leon’s bike section…

… is the most Xbox 360 era nonsense I’ve played in a minute.

They'll definitely remake the rest of the main games. No harm either, as you can clearly see the DNA of the remakes in RE9. The Remakes almost give that scope to try out different things before implementing them into a new title. Plus a lot of people (myself included) would have never played many of the titles. I've never played Code Veronica, 0, 1, all of 5 (played up to a point and then lost all interest in it) or 6 (and I'm assuming they'll probably do a lot of work re-jigging 6 to try and justify it).

I've also not played 7 or 8 but can't see myself doing so either. I even played most of Grace's sections in RE9 in 3rd person because I just much prefer it that way.

I never tried Grace in 3rd person as i love the first person horror but such a great addition that it's player choice. As for the series, i haven't played 0 or Code Veronica so looking forward to those remakes and i think RE1 re remake could be class as well.

Apparently playing in 3rd person makes the enemies slightly more aggressive and you'll occasionally stumble when trying to escape enemies. Kind of a trade off as playing in 3rd person does help a lot otherwise.

Unfortunately it really does highlight how slow Grace runs though. She already felt slow running in 1st person (one of the reasons I wanted to check out 3rd person), but 3rd person view really highlights it.

I must be the only person who is against a re remake of 1, I just cant see it improving it when you look at the small size of the mansion etc, its much tighter halls it just wont lend itself unless they go fully first person and change it up

I also think a remake of 1 is a pointless exercise. Real example of culture just eating itself if it happens.

I know the gap between remake and now is far longer than the gap between OG Resi and remake, but rereleases have ensured the remake remains extremely playable.

As an aside, after having been frustrated with the controller limits in Resi 4 remake on PS5, I’m very happy I stuck with PC for this. Mouse and keyboard feels a very comfortable fit for both halves of the game - both for the tense Grace sections and the precision action needed for Leon.

It runs great as well - despite DF recommending no ray tracing for 8 GB cards, I’ve found ray tracing on high and very minor tweaks to other graphics setting to be perfectly viable on 3070.

The worst section in the game I think was..

Orphanage. Loved the Grace bits but this was annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 37,415 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah unfortunately by trying to replicate the Orphanage part of RE2 Remake, they forgot that was probably the worst part of the RE2 Remake. It was creepy as sh*t especially when they hurl themselves from the Landing above, but not enjoyable to play.

For me the worst part was

during Leon's section before really entering Raccoon City. The bits in the skyscraper were awesome. The battle in the petrol station was cool. The bit in the underground car park was great. And most of the hotel was decent.

The section with the mortars can absolutely go f*ck itself. That was just nonsense. They made an attempt at why the zombie BSAA agents with guns can shoot you as they're firing blindly and erratically. The mortar guys have pinpoint accuracy, and especially considering they can't even see you (since you can't see most of them to snipe them from a distance), and even when in cover sometimes it would register a hit. Plus you have to try get past armoured zombies to even get to a mortar you can use. That whole bit was annoying to the point that even using the mortars to take out zombies yourself wasn't satisfying enough to justify it.

You're missing out on not playing Resi 7 and 8. Both great games and the first person is a game changer. Resi 7 has one of the most insane opening 2 hours I've ever played in a game. I played it last year for the first time and I was just dumbfounded at what I was experiencing, especially with the first two boss fights which were just incredible.

I wonder if the 'mini-game' mercenaries? What else could they mean?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 HopingforNewZ

I wouldn't be against a from the ground up proper remake of RE1. Get the casual/recent RE fans onboard with all the mansion lore!

I did a second run of this on casual difficulty and got the speed demon and minimalist achievements, not a terrible way to get 70K CP and unlock infinite ammo. Having a go on insanity now and there are a few near impossible areas, even with the infinite ammo!

I'm hoping for a resi 7 approach to the dlc. I liked the resi 8 dlc, but the resi 7 stuff was a lot of fun with how experimental it is.... But yeah I expect mercenaries at some point.

I think Resident Evil 1 is a near perfect game and the remake is a near perfect remake where it still feels like both games are worth playing.

I'd be apprehensive about a remake again normally but Capcom are on a roll and the resident evil 2 remake was phenomenal and as good as that resi 1 remake.

Resident evil 1 however is kind of unique for the series. It's less action and plays more like a PC game of the time, with a focus on puzzles as well as some really fun alternative paths and story sequences. I'd hate if it lost that for a more focused action game.

I think a re 1 modern remake would be full on Grace style game with Jill and Chris capable but first time encountering zombies and with limited ammo, that slower gameplay with no roundhouse kicks, think it could translate really well.

Actually, gonna reinstall re 1 remake when i finish 9. I never finished the remake for some reason.

I'm sure if remaking RE1 they could take a few liberties and maybe expand the mansion a bit with added rooms and puzzles. Still try to keep the vibe of the original while expanding on it.

I know the opposite happened with RE3 Remake where large sections of the original were cut out (and I believe a few sections of the original RE4 didn't make it into the remake), but RE1 would probably need a swing in the other direction with more content added.

The separate ways dlc added all the stuff that they missed in re4 remake which was a really nice surprise.

Re3 was a bit of a pisser though and nemesis was shite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 37,415 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah I never played the original RE3 (had RE2 but just never got around to RE3), but I remember I had a PS Cheats & Guides magazine that had the walkthrough of RE3 and the Nemesis bits just looked like the best thing ever.

Playing the remake… I thought the game as a whole was decent. Bit of a let down from how good RE2 remake was. The Nemesis bits were very disappointing though.

Ha, someone grabbed the spoof dlc posters from the announcement video and restored them.

Anyone else as mental as me and playing with ink ribbons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 37,415 ✭✭✭✭Penn

No. And the same is true if you remove the words "and playing with ink ribbons".

Nah I thought about it for nostalgia sake, but my main issue is just losing inventory space, which is at a premium in the early game (as per my previous posts about abandoning Requiem bullets and Antique coins because I needed to pick up key items). Plus I knew I'd probably only get playing for short bursts so didn't want to be limited.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,659 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It does feel more like the older games but I have learned to save often as I've lost progress due to doing something stupid while trying to save on ink ribbons.

I am enjoying the old school challenge.

    key-scene-predator.jpg

Ya'll a bunch of slack jawed Ubisoft/Sony open world gamers.

Ink ribbons will turn you into a Nintendo Hard gamer. Just like me.

The question would be why are there mental people not playing with them

No, not me as i like to save... Store item in box... Save... Take item out... Save.... Leave room, come back in and save just to be sure.
