Thought I posted this earlier but can't see it. Anyone lokk at their ESBNetworks account. Mine showing I used 8500kws since the start of March. Some other crazy numbers put up by Twitter users. Apparently it is an upgrade gone wrong

Seems like just Saturday so far, possibly Sunday might be affected too.

It's been looked into etc... energia have taken down the insights and have a banner on the website.

Mine is all on "night rate" and if averaged over the 4 hrs I would be drawing an average of 2MW 😂

Not sure if this is a record but 76,883.9 kWh recorded last week, all on Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday. All on night rate as well

Does this suggest that ESB networks can effectively make up the figures if they wanted to?

Theory online that it is a glitch and the decimal point is out by a factor of 2 or 3.

Interesting theory so obviously I had to check.

According to my solar app I imported 51 and 46kWh on Saturday/Sunday and according to ESBnetworks my consumption was 41 and 23MWh for the same days

So I don't think that's it but if they fixed this by simply moving the decimal place back 3 places I wouldn't complain haha!

My HDF was missing the decimal point entirely. So a factor of 1000 by whatever your readings were.

Having to deal with this all morning. ESB networks sent out readings 1000 times bigger than expected. And it's not even consistent. Now there's the office politics of what to do. Programmers say solve it one way, finance folk say another way and of course marketing say another way. And they all have different priorities.

There doesn't seem to be any consistency in it though

I suggest you look up VEE ( validation, estimation and editing ). There a standard that should have been used. It would have identified the errors and dealt with it.

Networks hardly use a 30 min value surely they are using a incremental value. That should be used to reimport and correct the error

I presume that no actual bills have issued. Normally readings would go to the Suppliers and SAP or the equivalent would "root out" any readings that were significantly outside the norm

Checked mine this morning…nearly had a heart attack!

Has this any implications for those getting a FIT.

My Yuno app stopped posting actual daily usage after Thursday March 5th & only giving reasonable estimates for 6th & 7th, nothing after that, would usually have actual usage data up to the 9th by now

There's several different energy providers that are affected by the bad ESB data so they'll all do things differently but our place's first thing was to stop any bills going out. This will likely take a few days to rectify so expect to see mad data for a while. It didn't help that ESB told us about 2-3 days after it happened.

We've always gone with the mantra that the data from ESB is gospel and we process whatever we get from them. This has shown the problems with that. In my opinion, any checks for crazy outlier data should have been on their end.

EI has or had a process where if any given bill was way out of Kilter it was geld iut for checking, anyone looking at the FIT data?

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

has anyone affected actually checked their meter to confirm the meter is still reading correctly?

My PV system has an app that uses a CT around the tails. Its pretty much bang on with the ESB reading, less than 1% difference.

cheers, was just curious if the meter itself still had the correct data - that it was an error in processing the data, rather than an error at source where the meters had glitched.

The meter software/firmware hasn't changed, it was just the processing of the data from them that went amiss.

No implications for the fit, and this is just me guessing, as it makes the most sense, the raw data from the SM will still be there, but the next step of the data processing went screwey.

It will take a while for it to catch up even when it gets rectified.

I don't think any bills will be issued until it's rectified either.

I seen it and knew it was a bug in the system as it's physically impossible to use that amount of power on a residential connection in a few hours.

So new/amended data is starting to be sent across starting this evening. Re the FIT Solis app says 73kws exported, Networks says 48 , this is for the Month of March (We were away for a few days sk usage was small as the Sun shone )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭discostu1

Sorry just saw the Export data is only up to the 5th do that would explain it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,032 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

If the raw data from the SM isn't there they would probably need to give us all a free weekend, or at worst give us an estimated bill for those 2 days

Has anybody checked their physical meter reading the old fashioned way as opposed to just their online account(s)? I presume that would have the raw data on it. I'm at work at the moment but intend to do that when I get home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭discostu1

But would that also mean they couldn't retrieve the FIT data?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,032 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

As far as I can tell the FIT data is not affected

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭discostu1

Hoping you are right, Solis says I've exported 81 kws the Networks data which stopped on the 5th I think shows 22kws

Cant see what the issue is here, surely they can read the cumulative total from the SM and adjust accordingly
