People can be against American regime changes in the middle East and not be pro Iran or anti-USA. Its a bit pathetic when posters seem to deliberately ignore the carnage of the Iraq , Libyan and Afghanistan regime change projects and try to dumb it down to "us versus them" dichotomy.

Did people learn nothing from the George W Bush era?

This isn't exactly going well for Bibi or Trump anymore.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

Hezbollah were formed in response to the the Israeli invasion, massacres etc. They have a political and military wings like sinn féin / IRA. Israel killed Hezbollah civilians in their pager terrorist attacks so it's striking you condemn resistance and not invaders.

    Fwiw,

the Rising was initially unpopular as many men from Dublin’s inner city were in France fighting at the Front against the Germans and many families were dependent on the separation allowance they received from the British.

Through rape, murder, theft, torture and American largesse the Israelis have devastated the Middle East.

Wars ignite our passions and tempt us to make provocative statements, especially in a social media environment designed to heighten controversy and exaggerate differences. To say I’m hostile to Trump and his MAGA movement would be an understatement so it’s probably a good idea to start with what most of us can agree on. I would contend that secular social democracy is the best form of government for any developed economy capable of supporting it. Iran falls woefully short in that regard. Israel and America are moving in the wrong direction too but they’re nowhere near as bad as Iran yet on that benchmark.

With that said, I’m still not hearing a coherent case for American involvement in this war. For America’s neighbours the changes we have seen since Trump returned are of considerable concern.

You might ask yourself why Hezbollah exists in the first place, and whose military is currently occupying a significant portion of southern Lebanon.

MAGA isn’t about liberal or conservative on the economic spectrum although it claims to be. Many MAGA policies are deeply unpopular with low-tax, low-spending libertarians like Thomas Massie or Rand Paul, including military involvement overseas.

I've just watched an interview with the Lebanese Justice Minister on Channel 4 News and 'well peed off' is an understatement. He made it clear that there was no justification at this stage for Hezbollah actions drawing Israeli retaliation raining down on Lebanon. However (and to your point about 'balanced and rational') he also said that the US and Israel had completely unrealistic in their expectations of Lebanon as regards the timeframe for disarming Hezbollah and ending Iran's interference in Lebanon's domestic affairs. The footage from Beirut gave the impression of remarkable calmness despite the demented situation they find themselves in yet again. I supposed they're sadly used to it after all these decades.

Israel's Mossad were training the Shah's secret police in surveillance, interrogation and torture methods. The secret police (Savak) were savage and Iranians despised them. The hatred for Savak helped fuel the 1979 revolution.

Now he's saying the war is "very much complete" after a phonecall with Putin. Oil price fell back to $92 afterwards. What that means I dont know.

Also Putin expressing "unwavering support" for Mojtaba Khamenei the new Supreme Leader.

SEC should investigate possible insider trading by members of this administration manipulate the markets. Large bets were made on Khameneis death and when it would happen.

MSNOW talking about Iranian aggression while showing pictures of Tehran in flames! Belatedly they labelled it as Tehran. They should be showing footage from the relevant countries. Even on a ‘left-wing’ channel (by American standards) they still ask why Iran is doing this, as if it weren't obvious.

The Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah can be contained with the right support from international allies, a Lebanese government minister has said.

Dr Kamal Shehadi, minister for the displaced, told chief presenter Mark Austin Lebanon was "bleeding literally and figuratively" from the Israeli strikes.

On whether it would be possible to restrain and disarm Hezbollah, Shehadi said: "Can we, politically and militarily, contain Hezbollah? Yes we can, if we get the right support from the international community.

"We cannot afford to sit idly by while the country is being destroyed for the fourth or fifth time in less than 20 years because Hezbollah chooses to fight wars in the Iranian interest, not anything to do with Lebanese interests and to do this on their own."

The Lebanese Government wants them disarmed. Most Lebanese people don't support them. They are achieving nothing for Lebanon.

There is no one magic solution to all this, but people need to at least accept that the actions of Hezbollah are in fact a serious problem for not just Israel, but Lebanon itself.

I suspect it relates to whatever Putin was discussing with the Iranian president a few days ago. It's fascinating (but totally unsurprising) that Trump remains very much on side with Russia, Iran's main ally.

No doubt members of the US admin have been making a fortune on oil futures too.

    More on the Lebanon/Hezbollah situation:-

War with Iran: Lebanon calls for direct talks with Israel, accuses Hezbollah of betraying country | CNN

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun detailed his plan during a virtual meeting with European Union officials, in which he leveled sharp criticism at Hezbollah and Israel for what he called “an attempt to corner my country.” He accused Israel of showing “no respect for the laws of war, nor for international laws.” Israel’s assault on Lebanon has displaced more than 600,000 people and killed more than 400, including scores of women and children, Aoun said.

……………………..Calling the Shiite Muslim group “an armed faction … that places no value on Lebanon’s interest nor on the life of its people,” Aoun said Hezbollah “wanted to achieve the fall of the State of Lebanon, under aggression and chaos.” He accused the group of working “for the sake of the calculations of the Iranian regime.”

Looking more likely he’ll taco after the oil hike. Or he could flip again the next time he opens his mouth. I know the Iranians will be all for self preservation but I wonder, if he declares “victory” tonight and says it over, is there any chance they keep attacking US bases? That would be embarrassing for trump. Who knows with this new guy and the previous cf being breached while talks were ongoing.

In the last day, a first-time @Polymarket user has bet more than $20,000 that U.S. forces will enter Iran by March 14 — raising new concerns about whether government insiders are betting on their intel and inside information.

Apparently Trump is going to make an important announcement tonight based on posts on X. He may try and spin 'victory' and seek to end the war. Now with Israel having entered Lebanon for a ground invasion and Iran continuing to pummel Israel with missiles I'm not sure any end of war announcement will hold much meaning. Trump is well in over his head and their is no easy way out. It looks to me like Iran holds most of the aces. Time will tell.

    Oh, and…..

Trump's approval rating down to 37% in latest Quinnipiac poll. 27% among Independents. 40% support the attack on Iran, 53% disapprove. Among Reps it's 85/11 in favour, among Dems 89/7 against and among Independents 60/31 against.

Trump desperately wants out. All the bravado but really he hates it. He gets no love for this war. He craves that perceived love. He wants to announce big wins at home. A war thousands of miles away that he cannot win, costing a billion dollars a day, who wouldn't want out. The oil price today is crazy. We might end up with cheaper fuel by the end of this. Or it'll go the other way. Seriously hard to predict this one. It's been mad.

Yea, no doubt, but you studiously ignored answering that very basic question. Israel is no one's friend, and you're deluding yourself if you think they want a peaceful solution to the situation in Lebanon, or anywhere else.

I wonder is it related to those islands in the Strait of Hormuz. There is no way he will invade mainland Iran.

US President Donald Trump spoke to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over the phone Monday to discuss Iran among other issues, according to the Russian president’s aide Yury Ushakov.

“I’ll say right away that the conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive, as is usually the case in dialogue between Russian and American leaders,” Ushakov said of the hour-long call, the first between them this year.

DJT getting his orders no doubt.

My guess is that Netanyahu and Israel have taken out lots of long oil bets. The only question is how many billions will they pocket? 100, 200, 300. People with no morals can exploit decency. I'm sure they'll be sitting pretty.

Reports Trump is considering taking over the Strait of Hormuz.

Alao ex Trump business partner, billionaire (335th richest in world) Khalaf al Habtoor has criticised the war, saying it's the reason UAE was bombed.
