Thank you to all who came and raced in Navan today. We really appreciate it, rain stayed away for most of the day, which was good. See you all at the next one, burger.

Looking forward to a good weather raceday, that wind last week was downright cruel.

Cycling Ireland’s new chip provider for NS races isn’t a patch on Popupraces from last season.

the only thing is that you can follow the races as they are ongoing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

So far as I can see the C2 race isn’t listed on the site or I can’t find it. It doesn’t feel us user friendly either.

What's the site for the chip results? Popup races was a great service in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,007 ✭✭✭wav1

To the best of my knowledge the chips are cycling Ireland owned and are being operated by staff/volunteers similar to the photo finish system. Probably going to take time for people to get up to speed on them.

Maybe the hosting site for results is the issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

    Speedhive is the hosting site.

    Upgrade thresholds clarified from CI.

Riders from promoting club competing in open events on Limited Comp licence

M60 may opt for downgrade to Category 3

M50 may opt for downgrade to C3 at discretion of Cycling Ireland Events Leader in consultation with Sports and Operations Director

There will be 2 upgrading reviews per year – mid year review (following CI National Road Championships) all C3 riders with the exception of M60, holding 45 or more points, will be automatically upgraded to C2

End of Season – the same process will apply to any C3 riders with the exception of M60, who reach the end of the road season and hold 45 or more points will be automatically upgraded to C2 for the following season

    Category 2 (C2) or (W2)

Riders who have amassed 45 points as C3 may opt for immediate upgrade to C2.

    General Comments

There will be no automatic downgrade of categories – any rider wishing to be considered for a downgrade should contact the Cycling Ireland Events Leader – giving details that can be considered in any review of grade.

All riders start the following season with Zero points in their grade for the next season

Rider points go back to zero when a category upgrade is applied

Gorey cancelled. And it probably won't be back.

Would be a good weekend for a race on the Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,484 ✭✭✭wirelessdude01

Don't race anymore so out of the loop but there used always be a race in Laois on Easter Sunday, is that gone?

Gone are the days when A3 and A4 would train for the winter for the start of Gorey from Blessington.

Agree that it is probably gone for good now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

It needed 140 or so riders to make it viable, sadly those numbers are not there anymore.

An event refresh as a two day event might work in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 383 ✭✭Raymzor

apparently only 30 signed on for 3 day as of today so they had to cancel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭Macy0161

N=1 Easter weekend would make it hard for me to get a pass (I'm away this year anyway), notwithstanding there's probably a reluctance from C3's to get their heads kicked in for an entire weekend by C2's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭columbus_66

Having over 40's C1'S in it probably didn't help as they would be a level or 2 above most riders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

An event looking for 140 riders over 3 days on an Easter weekend with another stage race on is unrealistic in the current racing climate.

I appreciate the emotional attachment the community has for Gorey but things are very different now for promoters & riders.

Yes, the only outstanding issue is the length of C2, we may bring it down to 6 laps, so 100km instead of 116km. That would be the only change and C3 at 5 laps. Hopefully open by the end of next week on eventmaster.
