As you say quelle surprise. Imagine sending two real estate developers to negotiate on behalf of the U.S with Iran. Abolsutely bonkers. Of course the negotiations were a ruse to prepare for war. This has done the American's enormous damage on the diplomatic front.

Surprised at Bibi. He's on the political merry go round in the M/East to know regime change was a fantasy. What came out last year after the 12 day war was that Israel took a hammering and Bibi asked Trump to get the Iranians to agree to a ceasefire which they did. I suspect that what happened last year will resemble sparring when the true extent of the carnage caused to Israel this year comes to light.

It is estimated 2m Israeli's have fled Israel. I'm assuming that's since the 12 day war last year. How many more will flee once conditions permit it?

Suggestions this evening that the US are very unhappy that the Israelis bombed Iranian fuel depots and this was very much not part of the script. The Americans fear this is a big escalation and risks sending up global oil prices.

I wonder if the US or Israel will immediately try to assassinate thr new leader, given they seem to be fresh out of new ideas.

Israel have already said they would target the next Ayatollah.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

    Estimated by who exactly?

You genuinely think 20% of the country has "fled" in one year and they have managed to hide it somehow? It is quite transparently nonsense, do people not have any base cop on anymore.

    1. The people of Iran that don't like their government.
    2. The Sunni states that Iran has been waging war against - by proxy before, now directly.
    3. (you can dispute this if you want) the US and Israel who were provoked extensively.

Do you accept that Russia is involved in this extensively?

WTI crude up 19% at open

    Brent up 17%

    Both at $108 and change.

Largest increase for both in history.

You lost any sort of credibility with your defence of Trump and Bibi. You are only against genocide when it's not against Israels enemies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,617 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

This is the type of thing that could make Trump bail out quickly. The Israelis won't of course…..this is their lifetime ambition (to destroy Iran).

Israel and Iran had close ties during the Shah's reign. Israel's Mossad (and the CIA) trained the Shah's secret police (Savak) in surveillance, interrogation and torture. The Shah's secret police were hated by ordinary Iranians and it's one of the reasons for the revolution and anti Israel/US feelings.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Funny, it's actually Leftists who only care about "genocide" when they need a stick to beat the Jews with. Otherwise, I'm sure Greta Thunberg will visit Kyiv any day now … and South Africa will join in cases against Russia for genocide.

Going scorched earth policy and turning Tehran in to a toxic smog hellhole isn’t really going to help an uprisings chances. Surely it’ll even piss off Tehran residents who despise those in charge and rally those who already support them behind the flag. It just doesn’t make any sense unless your only tactic is to be as bitter as you can be.

Oh so you are condemning Israel now for what they did in Gaza? You seem to muster some criticism of the leftists for not condemning the Russians so you must have some moral compass. Maybe not.

New supreme leader choice makes US-Israel war ‘even more senseless’

The choice of Ayatollah Khamenei’s son as Iran’s top leader has raised questions about the decision to attack by the US and Israel and replace one hardliner with another, an analyst says.

“It’s a real finger in the eye of Donald Trump who previously said he didn’t want Mojtaba Khamenei,” said Barbara Slavin from the Stimson Institute.

“So it makes the whole US-Israeli war even more senseless, to kill Ayatollah Khamenei and simply get his son in his place – somebody whose going to be furious, of course, at the murder of his father, his mother, his wife, and one of his children in the Israeli strike just a week ago.”

Slavin noted Mojtaba has been ruling with his father for years, “and given the existential threat that the Islamic Republic faces, it seems quite logical to put [him] there because he knows everyone and everything”.

However, she added, “he’s not someone who seems likely to bring more human rights and democracy to Iran”.

Speculation this evening is that the Israelis went rogue and bombed the fuel depots in Tehran without consulting the US.

This is so characteristic of everything Trump does. He - and obviously his whole entourage - are uttery incapable of carrying out any kind of realistic risk-analysis. They're so obsessed with their own greatness, their thought process simply cannot take account of any other party potentially - or probably - having a separate agenda and the means to pursue it.

It's almost like he just attacked Iran for the laugh or the 'buzz' and the headlines it would generate and with no actual plan or strategy. He must be the most unserious leader in the western world of the last 100 years.

As said by many posters before, Israel's objective is complete chaos in the misguided belief that it will benefit Greater Israel. However all that has happened in the last 2.5 years is that many millions have seen their true nature - a racist, pariah, lying, ethnic-cleansing, genocidal, terrorist state … and now the US has joined them in that cesspit.

The administration appears to be doubling down and going all in. I think things will move fast this week. If Trump doesn't row back we will likely see a rebellion from Republican lawmakers. We could see another War Powers Resolution being brought forward with Republican backing.

The problem for the US is that Iran does not appear to be in any mood to negotiate, irrespective of what Congress or the Senate does. Of course the US will likely just declare victory and wind down operations, but this could end up being a stunning strategic defeat with the US having to abandon military bases across the Gulf. Their partners will be furious and the Iranian attacks will continue until their troops are out of harms way. This will likely go down as one of the greatest blunders in international relations.

Honestly when you look back at it all Hamas attacking on October 7th was a major fúck up along with Iran helping them, had that attack not happened, Gaza wouldn't be ruins today, Netanhayu wouldn't still be in power driving all this bullshít and possibly Trump wouldn't have managed to get elected again. If those nihilistic idiots hadn't kicked the proverbial hornets nest back then things would be very different now, the consequences are likely to be studied in years to come of how much of a power shift that single event caused beyond the region.

I am sure its consequences will be studied but maybe not for the reasons you assume.

I find it disturbing that 5 people thanked this post which is complete fantasy.

Two million people have not left Israel. That's a comical figure pulled out of absolutely nowhere.

And then an insinuation that Iran battered Israel in the 12 Day war making them beg for a ceasefire and is now battering them again.

Are you actually this blinded by loathing of Israel that you can't just criticize them on the things they have done rather than be just making up complete nonsense.

Anyone who has to make up such outlandish stuff (about either side) when there's limitless ammunition from the reality of it..…it's just sad.

The surrouding states around Iran have US military bases, why do you think they shoud get a free pass?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,617 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Watching Anderson Cooper on CNN and there is a growing realisation that the war may already be going seriously pear shaped for Trump. We're heading into the ninth day of the conflict, a new hardline Ayatollah has just been installed and with no indication the Iranian government is in the slightest danger of falling.

US may have to send in ground troops yet, if anything to secure the uranium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭somenergy

The Iranians with russian assistance struck US radar installations around the UAE quite successfully its expensive kit and not easily replaced

The US soldiers who died where at one of these sites.

This is a war that wouldn't have happened if trump was in jail.

Given that you yourself have posted in this forum to confirm that you are anti-semetic (after referring to non-Israeli Jews as being members of an "Abhorent tribe"), presumeably you must feel some empathy for your fellow racists?

Bellingcat, known for tracking the BUK missile that shot down flight MH14 over Ukraine to Russia, says the evidence in the case of the elementary school points to a Tomahawk missile, despite Trumps denials.

They'd literally be sending them in to die in Iran, it's the most mountainous, hilly, bumpy terrain in the world, an attacking forces nightmare. No other military in the world would handle that terrain or know how to ground fight in there like Iranians do.
