Dreadful from us in Sligo tonight. Having no striker at the club bar a teenager is awful. Doyle is a LW and Oluwa is awful.

Sligo weren't great but scored two (Dennison giving away a goal for the second week in a row) and that was the difference.

A bit disappointing to see time wasting from Sligo from 60 mins onwards but they got three points so will be, rightly, delighted.

no more than ye stealing 5 or 6 yards every time or your keeper taking an age for every kick out. If the referees actually enforced that rule rovers would have had 4 or 5 corners.

I think the ref booked two of your players for time wasting, let you take a free kick after additional time in the firet half (from which you scored) and blew up ft when we won a corner.

I'm not complaining about the result, we were awful. But suggesting that Drogheda were time wasting is a bit silly.

Your keeper almost got booked for timewasting at 0-0. The ref was pointing at his pocket telling him to kick the ball.

Drogheda keeper was horrendous for time wasting up until we went ahead in United Park.

Great win for us last night even if we almost threw it away after going two up. First half was fairly even, both teams had chances although nothing clear cut. We dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half and deserved our lead. Was great to see Edmundson score as he'd worked hard so far this season but he'd missed several good chances in his previous games. Then once we scored our second goal, Shels took control of the play and got two very quick goals. Both were sloppy defending on our part, Wood should never be allowed sialom his way across the pitch like that and Caffey was allowed too much space to get his shot off for the equaliser. We got back into it somewhat after the equaliser but Shels probably looked the most likely to score until we got a corner following a dangerous free kick and Mata finishes superbly to give us the win.

For the first 70 minutes Hoare was really good for us, he then faded but for what looked like a bad signing last year he's done really well the last three matches. Baggley has also been excellent for us so far this year. Nugent had a tough job replacing Lennon and he didn't let himself down, he definitely faded in the 2nd half but before that he controlled our play and held the midfield well.

How is that relevant to tonight's game? Did you watch it?

Drogheda fans complaining about Sligo wasting time is Like any Portuguese player complaining about opponents diving , tis quite amusing.

You must be disappointed on a weekly basis so. Drogs were time wasting in the first half at 0-0 in the season opener with us.

Ya you'd think there'll be bigger fish sniffing around there shortly. He was strong, quick, good touch, excellent link play. Best striker we've faced so far.

It may be irrational at this stage, but I still don't trust Hoare. He was dreadful last season, and I'd still have Grivosti instead of him. Like I say, I might be biased, but he still seems like an accident waiting to happen to me.

Whatever about the odd flare throwing in LOI, the rangers mob in ibrox now on the pitch after losing the game exchanging a few flares from the pitch in to the Celtic end

Think it was the same flare they were exchanging. It's good to share.

Interesting to see Michael Noonan pictured in a Man City shirt in today’s Sunday times in 2024, he was with Pats then but looked he was heading to city

Would have snapped your hand off for a point there

Even after going 2-0 up ? Draw probably fair, but to be honest I thought the Rovers penalty was soft, and believe me I don't say that lightly when its against Shels 😀

At 2 nil up I started to dream, but even at 2-1 I was thinking we would lose. We’re in bits in many different ways.

At 2 down I'd have taken the draw but having gotten back level in the first half thought we left the additional 2 points behind us. Despite the shocking start (and dodgy second goal, ball looked out of play & ref had signaled a goal kick) Shels looked like they were there to be beaten and we really should have pushed on & won it, but all the changes to the team & then all the subs just messes with the teams flow IMO and it cost us 2 points last night. A weird game, Shels took their forst goal well, were gifted a second and i thought it was curtains for us with the starting 11 we put out, but Shels never pushed on at all & if anything looked more surprised to be 2 up and didn't know what to do from thta point.

Rovers definitely still not up to speed & look sluggish, so hopefully as the games keep coming we start to get moving a bit better.

2nd shels goal was bizarre only half caught it but looked nearly like linesman had taken off running to the half way line before the ball was squared and turned in , peno was disaster by speele i thought and fair enough.

Didn't think it was a soft pen at all. McGovern saw Speel coming and made sure he was between the ball and keeper. Speel was just really stupid to come through the back of him

Penalty was very soft to me. McGovern started going down as soon as Speel got near him.

Does anyone know what the story is with SDCC investigating the postponement of the Shams/Dundalk match? Do they care because they are due a cut of some matchday income (food or something) and lost out because it was rearranged for a Monday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭ollaetta

It's an odd one because the pitch is maintained by SDCC rather than Rovers and you'd imagine Council staff would have been present with the match officials when it was deemed to be waterlogged. It appears that an unnamed party complained to the League about the postponement and that has led to whatever investigation is taking place. Not too sure what it's all about as it was very likely from early that day that the match would be rained off.

Back to Derry tonight for first time since Harry got that glorious winner when we won the league 50 years ago! Cant say I’m confident , but if things go as they have been there will be goals at least.

Maybe it was Rovers who complained…. we did lose out on gate money given the game was rearranged to a Monday.

Rain in Dublin that day was unreal, it was obvious from early morning that with the state of the pitch and the forecast there was no chance of a game. Hilarious to see Dundalk fans online looking for Rovers being fined.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,157 ✭✭✭✭CSF

You would think that if Rovers were found to have sabotaged a pitch to get a game off, the punishment would be worse than a fine, but zero chance they’ll be able to prove that happened. Will end up going away.

Strange aul conspiracy theory. Why would Rovers want it called off?
