Giving players a chance anyway. Not sure where scores are going to come from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,007 ✭✭✭Village87

Kilkenny have no All Ireland in 11 years. Some players are not good enough. Just because some members are close or probably related to some players not good enough need to get over it. Worse things going on in the world than analysing our chances of wonning an All Ireland. It's not go game we are playing now.

Most people are in agreement that it is positive at the moment and some of the new players are doing very well.

Doing Nearly as well as a lot of the older players you have slated for a long time, get over it. Also I'm no relation to any senior county hurlers, are you??

Great to see Derek Lyng giving lads chances tomorrow. It's a young Galway team so definitely the right thing to do. Disappointed Killian Doyle was dropped I thought he was good v Cork and very unlucky to be taken off.

Hopefully Garrett and Bolger can continue the promise they've shown so far. Plenty new faces there which is what we want to see.

It's an aging team that struggles to beat any Munster team, we need to rebuild for 3/4 years or else we are in big big trouble. Yes I have been critical of some of the players in there prime over the last 6/7 years because imo they have been poor since some of the greats retired.

I agree but you've been asked for a long time for alternative players with no reply.

I sincerely apologise if it came across like that, certainly wasn't intended as a cheap shot, I genuinely didn't like Cody's conduct in that particular moment but that's just a personal opinion. I'm sure Brian Cody is a man of complete integrity and a hurling man to his core.

Cody was no angle either, treated players like **** when it suited and it came back haunt him with no All Ireland in his last 7 years over KK when he would not adapt his approach to the game changing and his old school approach to youth.

Blanchfield, cian Kenny and eoin cody all back to their best position is positive

Doyle should be playing. Deegan can't get off it. Butler must be injured.

Not sure I'd agree about Killian Doyle, he is coming along very well and I think he has a bright future with kilkenny, but he was targeted the last day and Cork made some hay out of it. I'm sure we'll see him at some stage.

Love the selection though, bolger and Garrett have definitely earned a chance to play again although that's a not if inexperience in a full back line where the full back is still learning the ropes. What's the story with Butler?

Blanch and Cody back where they belong and our best midfield pairing (hope molloy can get back to form). On Cody, I know he has struggled when he's man marked, but he may get used to that treatment now, and hopefully he realizes that when he's being marked like that it means there's opportunities around him to get scores if he can find the man to offload it to. He doesn't have to do it all himself every time. But hopefully they don't squirrel him away in full forward where the opposition can keep tabs on him, he's a ranger and should have the run of the place to make space.

Interesting to see connelan on again, I hope he can prove the management right for giving him the chance again, he's a lovely player but he's struggled against the physical wing backs.

One last thing, if we're going long, go long to mossy, now there's a lad who can cause damage in full forward, let him give the hoors something to worry about instead of making him work out the field all the time.

Would have liked to see Shane murphy wing back he was flying before getting injured last year him and j Donnelly seem to be down the pecking order or maybe it’s a case they want to look at others and know what they can do

John donnelly is contributing more coming on than he is when he starts.totally off his game last year but class when he is on it.big night for the young players to step forward and put there hand up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,007 ✭✭✭Village87

Yeah I agree, might be something to look at with John Donnelly with 20 mins to go to come in off the bench, without looking at stats out of all the top teams I imagine we have the least impact off the bench the last few years. Never more evident in last years semi final with the game in the melting pot we had 2/3 players who were out on there feet with 10 mins to go and Tipperary got a great impact off the bench and we made no changes, it was absolutely criminal. 2 forwards should always be replaced with 55/60 mins gone as the work rate required over 70 mins is impossible

Mickey Butler is sick apparently, who's to say Cillian Doyle hasn't been sick too much like Stephen Donnelly. Ed Mc Dermott apparently was sick for the Cork game as well. Timmy Clifford injured, not sure how bad. With the week the camp had before the Cork game and the bug that went through it, I think it's hard to decide if a lad is not playing because of poor performance or just being sick.

I think it's the strongest team we have at the minute and I think Cody was played on the inside line so much against Cork as he had been sick the week leading up to it as well. It's great to see him back out at centre forward and hopefully he will lead the line again from there. I would 100% agree he needs to pass the ball more especially when he has a man tight to him and a lad is free 5-10 yards away.

I've seen Kilkennys play for Galway v Kilkenny lots of times. Don't think I've ever seen a Galway man play for Kilkenny v Galway, if it comes to pass!

Does anyone know is the SKC vs Nenagh game on tv? Doesn't seem to be shown on TG4 or Clubber?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭mooz

Found it...it's on the TG4 YouTube GAA live stream today for anyone interested in watching it, should be a cracker

Jesus christ, its a blessing we can compete at all with all the lads sick 🙄

I understand S Donnelly may have had pneumonia but now we are excusing every **** performance as another lad sick.

Ridiculous excuse. These are professional athletes in all but name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭jamesbond2022

No there amateur athletes with school college jobs lives and families to juggle as well as hurling who are asked to prepare and train like professionals we limited time to recover

Anyone with half a brain and has trained at any sort of a high level understands when you train hard your immune system is under pressure and your more susceptible to picking up bugs particularly with the weather and the volume of work there trying to get through before tapering off for the championship

Kieran's 2 down at half time in Colleges semi. Struggled to get into it but on top last 15. Going for goals when not really on has cost them a few scores. No point for play is a worry, forwards struggling a bit without the suspended Eoin Cahill. Great goal by Jake Mullen got they back into it after great play by Behan at midfield.

Have played against a breeze so good chance to overturn the deficit 2nd half.

Where was lads being sick given as an excuse? I gave it as possible reasons lads might not be playing, read into it whatever way you choose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭tbiggertycome

Kierans haven't looked great in the first half at all and an awful lot of passes were poor and intercepted. Nenagh are pushing up on the short puck outs and Kierans have really struggled with the Nenagh forwards tight marking and have coughed up a good few scores from defenders bobbling or dropping balls coming out. Mullen took his goal well and with it their luckily only two down. Nenagh by far the better team for most of that first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,486 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Wow... Amazing last 5 minutes by Kierans. That Barcoe point to equalise was unreal and lovely poachers finish for the goal by Carroll

I'd be very slow to ever praise Kierans but serious composure to knock over the points in the last few minutes and not panic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,458 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

What a comeback by kierans, just very composed and professional when it would be easy to start going for goals in a panic. Barcoe I think annoyed the leveling point and it was unreal. Thought they had nicked a draw only for David Carol to come up with a lovely goal to finish it. Great win, they'll take some stopping now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Some finish, looked dead and buried with 5 left. Barcoe was massive in the last 10, after keeping Doughan very quiet in general play he was inspirational at the end. Not a vintage Kieran's team by any means but they'll be delighted with that. Diarmuid Behan midfield is a powerful hurler and still U18. Nevin and Ragget good also.

Great guts and composure shown by Kierans to win that and I'm sure Nenagh will be devastated they led from the very first few seconds of the game all the way deep into injury time. Very calm from Kierans to keep taking their points even though they were 3 down with time nearly up and Dan Carrolls flick to seal the win was very good. Nenagh looked like they had all the answers until the last 10mins. Their forwards looked sharper and their defence was dominant. Kierans on the other hand could get very little to work up front and their defence was very shakey at times. When it mattered most though they all stood up and they were very strong all over, in the final period. Nenaghs two goals in the second half looked to have sunk Kierans but fair dues to them for never giving up the cause.
