There was no €40 at the start, at quotation time - that's the point.

Let's say they do this 50 times a day: that's €2000 they rope in.

And if where you parked for work was an issue, why isn't asked of when you get the quote in the first place ?

I'ts only a matter of time before you'll have to declare whether you face the car in or out of the driveway when you park it……. (joke, btw……….)

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Au contraire, I have a good appreciation of what those factors are, that's why I'm calling this out for the BS that it is.

The notion that you would be penalised for parking on one street over the other (for any purpose), or that your insurance would be valid/invalid if you did, is nonsense. What if you go to town of a day, and all the parking on X Street is full, but there's spaces on Y Street - you think that should even be a factor in your insurance ?

What if I drive on an L- road instead of the R-, N- or Motorway into Galway - should I get a discount ?

This is the thin-edge of the wedge stuff.

You've proved my point. Look carefully again on a sample of the questions you are asked. They bear no relation to the examples you have provided. One of the key words will be 'usually'. A dictionary will help distinguish it from the word 'occassionally'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

They asked me where my car was parked in work when I initially looked for a quote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭djan

I don't think you appreciate the difference in risk of damage relating to the location where a car will spend most of its time.

As said by others, the key word is usually so it's fine to have it elsewhere without voiding anything and even then it would be hard for them to prove. Having said that, parallel parking in a narrow terraced street of a rougher area has inherently much more risk associated with it than a wide leafy suburb with plenty of space for two way traffic.

Regarding the roads traveled on, yes roads such as motorways are much more safer than than two way national roads or the 80km/h limit rally backroads littered around Ireland 😅 Would make sense that if a tracker is fitted and one does majority of driving on safer roads, they get a lower risk rating and quote.

Yes outsurance go deeper with the individual factors but this allows low risk applicants to get lower quotes than they otherwise would. At the end of the day, nobody is forcing you to go with them.

    Hi all.

I added my 17 year old to my insurance earlier this year to get him on the road. I have a 3 series BMW.

    He has a provisional license.

I m 30 years driving, no claims in 15 years.

    My missus the same.

€1700 i have been quoted for the 3 of us. Is this the norm these days?

Ill will shop around but they normally isn't much between companies.

Tbh, to have a 17yr old on a 3-series, where all 3 are insured is, to me, 'cheap'…..if that is even an appropriate word.

well in my case, as pointed out, I proved the eircode of a private, off-street, locked & gated car park - logic says that would be a lesser risk, not a higher one……..

You need to rethink the weird logic that might be applied? If your car is in a locked and gated car park is that because you are worried about you car being stolen?

Presume you are shopping around . Worth trying Zurich with the one big switch code ZUROBS potential 25% discount

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭KrustyBurger

For sure! Got a quote from Outsurance which was not far from last years quite. I'll def check Zurich as well, thanks for the heads up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Gooser14

Don't forget that OUTsurance don't provide NCB protection as an option, if that is an option on your current policy. OUTsurance were the cheapest for me last year but I didn't go with them because of this.

Got my renewal from Outsurance €429.86, more than what I was hoping for, I paid €327 last year, in saying that I have changed my car for a newer car. It auto renews for the 3rd of May with payment due to be taken on the 26th of this month, I'll give them a ring and see can they give me a better price. It's too early to shop around as I need to be within a month of renewal.

    2026 VW ID4

Main driver: 7y NCB, full Irish driver license

Named driver: wife, less than 1y of full Irish

Both of us 100% clean driving history

    Its4women - €485,00

AnPost Insurance (as "new customer" - underwriter FBD) - €592,00

    123.ie - €598,00

    FBD - €613,00

    GetSetGo - €615,00

AnPost Insurance (existing customer's renewal. Underwriter FBD) - €645,00

    QuoteDevil (underwriter WrightWay) - €653,00

    AIG - €727,00

    AA - €782,00

    Revolut (underwriter AIG) - €846,00

Very happy with the Its4women's deal, considering the current motor insurance climate in the country.

One thing I learned this time: get your quotes within 30 days of start of the policy. This made some difference for me.

With 7 years NCB on my bag I didn't even try them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Why? Last year they were half what Zurich were wanting to renew with them, I had a lot more than 7 years NCB which obviously counted for SFA as far as Zurich were concerned. I haven't tried the merry quote dance yet as my policy doesn't expire until the 2nd of May but I'm not expecting anything much tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭on_the_roots

What do you expect to happen to your NCB if you have a claim with Outsurance? What if they sky rocket your premium at renewal time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Like all NCB's if you have a claim against you it disappears like a puff of smoke, protection or no protection. My renewal has come in, €429 for next year which by looking at what others are posting, isn't bad, not as good as I was hoping but nothing is these days unfortunately. It's certainly better than the almost €700 Zurich wanted on their renewal last year. If anyone could be accused of skyrocketing it's Zurich not Outsurance.

Fully comp male 35 full NCD 2013 Ford Focus Zurich €450 renewal after shop around went with 123.ie €323 fully comp NCD protection cheapest since I was 3rd party F&T during Covid.

You clearly don't understand how NCB protection works.

    Best of luck with Outsurance.

Of course I do I've been driving cars in my own name since 1991, a little less of the Boards condescension if you don't mind. In all those years I only had one claim against me and I made that myself as my 4 week old car was vandalised while I was in work, I did it through my insurance to make sure the car was perfect. Yes, I had partial NCB protection but renewal was expensive until I realised I wasn't actually tied to the insurer I claimed against. I could move to another insurer obviously disclosing the claim following it up with the paperwork to say it was settled, they were a lot cheaper. I'm not tied at the hip to Outsurance if another provider is cheaper I'll move to them. The top figure before NCB is applied is outrageous nowhere near what Outsurance charge.
