A few quirks still in the new shape, but looks a good package overall!

Reviewers still quoting pricing without the MSL fees but at least people are aware of that nowadays

How are folks finding the predicted range, ie, if you set a trip, do you arrive at the % the car suggests you would?

Missus is thinking of one but not sure if its as accurate as Tesla for instance.

    Cheers

    Update:

She went for the G6. The BYD while very impressive just felt a bit old school next to the G6, the white interior and generous glazing just felt so much more premium, light, airy and modern. Surprisingly the lack of physical controls was not a deterrent she thought it would be between the user friendly touchscreen or voice control. Immediate delivery and an outstanding salesman sealed the deal.

She also checked out the new Kia EV5 which was similar in price, but it felt like it was from a generation ago and a class below. Some of the interior felt super cheap and the buttons were scattered all over the place. Can't see why anyone would take this over a G6.

yeah that was my impression too, the G6 is a lovely place to be, hope she has safe driving in it!

Had a test drive of the G6 this morning. Initially it looked a much bigger car than the id3 I'm coming from but it handled so well the size became a non-issue. Has a very premium feel to it.

Can any current owner comment whether the dashcam and sentry features are enabled in Irish models?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 758 ✭✭✭sept09baby

Yes you need a SD card for dashcam to work and sentry recordings are not available in the app yet (view them on the car screen) but I've read that will come in an update at some point

We currently have a G6 and ID3 as our second car. G6 handles very well and has a much smaller turning circle than you'd expect so very easy to manoeuvre

Thanks for that. I don't think the transition from id3 to G6 will be difficult! I was very impressed with the auto park feature into a very tight space. Two things that were minor cons were the main screen, which is not angled towards the driver (a la id3) and was quite reflective, and the noise in the cockpit up to 30 km/h (but I believe that may be adressed in a coming OTA update). I contacted my insurer today to see if there would be any issues transitioning to "a little known" Chinese brand but without a reg no. I couldn't get a quote. Any thoughts to share on your experience with insurance in this regard?

Our is through the company scheme so cant really help sorry. I'd say a lot of insurers dont have it set up on their systems yet. Have seen people recommend AA or An post

Yeah the low kms safety noise is unusual but we're used to it now. Re the display of the main screen - it's not too much of an issue because the drivers display is so customisable. You can change the display in front of you to show so many different combinations. We tend to use the big screen for navigation mainly or have it as a split screen with spotify etc

SIL had no issue with insurance on G6, Long Range RWD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭zx80

Went for LR model which should be ready for collection at end of this week. My existing insurer would not quote for Xpeng. Went with AXA which was 60% more expensive than my id3 insurance and was the best of three quotes my broker got. So there does appear to be a bit of reluctance to quote for new-ish Chinese brands. Would like to hear if you have had a different experience insurance-wise.

I went with 123.ie for my G6 insurance, and my quote went down by 40 euros, which very much surprised me. My old car was a 2014 Audi A5 ICE with less valuation obviously.

what is sound system like, build quality, handling and ride, anyone purchase the performance version yet Thnks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,409 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

Sound system is only average, you would hope for more given all the speakers but it's not bad. Build quality appears to be excellent, laser thin shut lines, solid door thud despite being frameless, very well insulated from wind and road noise. Materials on the inside put BMW to shame. Ride errs on the side of comfort which is exactly as it should be with a car like this.

Any G6 owners have problems with Apple CarPlay? Having no luck getting it working.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 758 ✭✭✭sept09baby

Haven't seen any mention of problems in the facebook groups. I have a pixel phone and android auto works fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭k123456

I would try with a second phone (IOS or Android) and if possible the original USB cable that shipped with phone. Also Update IOS / Android on both phones, if you have done all this and see the same issue on both phones , this points to the car being the issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,409 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

Tried two iPhones, one would connect with the cable, neither would connect wirelessly.

    Got that CarPlay issue sorted.

Have to say this is a deeply impressive car. The quality of the interior, the infotainment and comfort feel like a generation ahead of a lot of EV's. Not being a legacy manufacture seems to have allowed for some really creative thinking into what makes a really comfortable, relaxing space. The massaging seats and wellness settings, the music, ambient lighting and dash animations, there is some really fresh thinking going on. That an ID 4 is around the same price feels laughable. IMO there is no comparison between them.

picking up my car this morning. Can any owners confirm if they got a NFC card as well as a key? Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭quiggs1000

Yes, 1 NFC card with the car. Phone works standalone also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭zx80

Dealer told me initially that it didn't come with a NFC card - I told him their brochure included NFC card. He checked and confirmed it should have one but it seems to have gone missing in supply chain. I asked how car could be PID'd with a missing NFC. Is going to look into it - may require it going into the shop for reprogramming a new card if it can't be located which is a PITA.

doubt it needs that? with tesla its a 2 min job you can DIY.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭zx80

Hope you’re right but sales person was adamant it would have to go into the shop. Keep you posted.

First impressions of the LR model after a day’s driving: I felt the road more than the id3 I’m coming from, closer to wife’s Volvo XC40 - larger wheels probably playing their part in that. Very quiet - I’m not getting any internal artificial engine noise when starting off that some people have spoken of.
Sound system is much better than anticipated with all EQ flat (heard some complaints online), IMHO it’s better than XC40’s Harmon Karden system (and I am a bit of an audiophile).

Lack of switches/buttons is what it is. I had a divil of a time trying to find how to adjust my side mirrors but most of these things you set once and forget. Temperature and volume have dedicated thumb wheels on the steering and there is one programmable button. Coming from the id3 that has sliders for only volume and temperature it’s not that big a deal.

Voice control worked OK, the few times I tried it.
Apple CarPlay works fine, so far no issues.
Screen is very responsive and I’ll have a bit of fun setting up my short cuts.
Visualization of road environment very good - looks very similar to Tesla’s at least from what I’ve seen of Tesla’s.
Traffic light recognition was hit and miss, rarely showed green turning lights.

Very premium feeling to seats (very comfortable) and cockpit, loads of soft materials - up there with the best.

Overall the tech in this car is very impressive for the price point - built in 4-camera dashcam, Xguard (sentry mode), on-screen turning cameras, parking assistance that I’ll probably actually use, 360° camera, digital rear view mirror, digital key etc. (let’s not forget those massaging seats!).
A shout out also to the XCombo system that allows you to put together If This Then That types of macros. I’ve already put one into the app that will automatically close the charging port cover (if I forget to close it after removing the charging cable) as soon as I put the car in D(rive). This fill prevent me leaving my charging port cover wrapped around the gate pillar as I’m leaving my driveway!

Early days but so far quite impressed.
