Apparently Noem gave a speech moments after Trump dumped her. In it, she uses a quote often incorrectly attributed to Orwell, which is probably not really a source that someone from the current US administration should be using…

Does Markwayne no longer participate as a Senator now that he has the new job?

some people were dropped on their heads as babies they’re so thick.
Mark Wayne must have been hit on his head by a revolving door.

Looks like Noem, was involved in fraud and got caught, she looked shell shocked when she got questioned by congress. If Donald doesn’t pardon her she is in a lot of trouble. If Donald dies suddenly in office a whole lot of people are in trouble.

I don't think you understand what Rules of Engagement actually are. They're different from the laws around war which are basically agreed by all nations and don't really change without a lot of discussion and negotiations between nations.

Rules of Engagement are by the command structure within a country's military. And they can change frequently. They are decided for each operation, mission, deployment, patrol etc. They can between different units, ships and aircraft all operating in the same theatre. 2 units doing the same mission 24 hours apart could have very different ROEs.

What's Luis Suarez doing in the background of a Trump press conference?

    If Don dies?
The only difference will be the signature on the parsons.
    Vance rather Trump.

Without wholesale procedural and constitutional changes in how the Executive functions and how Congress exercises it's own power?
The US will continue it's downward spiral, there may be a brief renaissance, as there often is before Empire's collapse, but?
Collapse it will, the "experiment in democracy" has failed, it has been usurped by corruption, growing Plutocracy and all fuelled by ever more pressure and control of the working classes in the US.

David Murrin, Ibn Khaldun and Ray Dallio amongst others have written brilliant works on the lifecycle of empires.
I'd recommend them to anyone as a starting point.
We are at the end of US Hegemony and the lunatic fringe of the Heritage Foundation and MAGA are acting as accelerationists in the belief that if they can force war now?
They can win and exchange their current military might for an extension of their hegemony.

I do understand, hence why I didn't mention laws. Of course they can be changed, but as I pointed out by not stating what the 'stupid' rules were it only drives home that any and all ROE can be dismissed as stupid.

Someone should have shouted at her that Orwell was a Socialist and watch has her dumb face melted off of her skull.

will Vance want to sink his election chances by handing out pardons ?

    From the BBC

I'm currently in the East Room of the White House, where US President Donald Trump is meeting with Inter Miami, the David Beckham co-owned Major League Soccer champions.

Trump is currently at the podium, standing a few feet from a pink "47" jersey and football featuring his signature and that of Inter Miami's members, including Lionel Messi. Marco Rubio and his wife entered just minutes before the event began.

As we've just reported, the US president lost no time before quickly jumping into an update on Iran.

On the matter of law it is only applicable if a working majority uphold a convention and punish transgressions of convention.

The US is unapologetically breaking conventions that also protect it along with everyone else.

It gives everyone else reason to be weary of US naval forces in their waters if doubt hangs over their commitment to said convention.

Vance has no chance in an election.
He is an unlikable and uninspiring shell.
Post Trump, he won't lead MAGA and the likelihood is that he will IMHO pardon like a kid doing lines with 4 pens tapped together.
These people pardoned and celebrated insurrectionists, the same insurrectionists that the new DHS secretary cowered hiding from.
They have pardoned billion dollar fraudsters.
They have made it fairly clear that a pardon is a commodity.

So yeah, I think Vance will pardon all and even pardon preemptively.
Which again highlights the inherent corruptabilty of the American political system.
It's a broken, wrecked and terribly flawed system that has laboured on as long as it has?
Solely because there was until recently a majority of politicians that worked within the rules.
Rather than using the lack of oversight and accountability to game the system to extremist ends.

So war crimes are illegal? And the US committed at least one this week. Anything to say about that incident (sinking an unarmed ship and refusing to rescue the drowning occupants)?

I don't think you do. You stated that the prick was saying the ROE can be ignored. Which ROEs? Every operation has different ROEs. What I think he was saying was the ROEs for Operation Epic Fury (puke) wouldn't be as restrictive or "stupid" as they were for Operation Iraqi Freedom (wanky) and Operation Enduring Freedom (GTFO).

It seems he has to go through the appointment approval route in the Senate and won't take up the appointment til late March. I'm assuming the GOP [Trump] will have to nominate some-one to fill the senate seat in due course unless the GOP can rig it so he can sit in the senate approving Trump Admin moves and plans while sitting as Sec Homeland Security. If he cant double-job then the GOP will be deficient one more vote in the Senate when it comes to votes harming Trump.

One other point about Noems departure from DHS is that Corey Lewandowski is reported to be leaving the Dept as well. He is reputed to have been a close personal friend of Noem while at DHS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,356 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

What you think he was saying? That's the core problem. He said they weren't going to abide by stupid ROE. ROE that they themselves created up used.

But now he has declared that stupid ones are out. Which ones? Forever or just this war?

I don't know how I can explain it any better. The ROEs for this war are different to previous wars. That is normal.

I must have missed him saying they were ignoring their ROEs set for this conflict because would make no sense. What he thought was stupid about the ROEs in previous wars was, I don't know. Probably the rule about trying to avoid civilian casualties and not bombing mosques.

CNN has reported that Trump is pressuring the Israeli President to give Benni a pardon on charges Benni is facing in Israeli courts. There's a however in that as the pardons can be challenged in the Israeli Supreme Court. Trump allegedly pushed the President last year to interfere in the trial Benni was facing and block his trial from going ahead.

It leaves the Israeli President in a sticky position [dare he tell Trump to F/O and keep his nose out of the Israeli judicial system] as Trump and Benni are coincidentally in an expanding war, which Benni is stretching into Lebanon on the basis that he is striking Hezbolla'h, Iran's proxy in Lebanon.

    Which ROEs

    Exactly.

Which rules of engagement is pissed up Pete saying are "stupid". The ones that say you can't shoot up neighbourhoods on a whim? The ones that say you can't target schools or hospitals? The ones that say you can't shoot medics in the field or at aid stations? The ones that say you can't shoot surrendering enemy combatants? The ones that say that an army should use restraint so as not to unduly harm civilians?

The only thing that was "stupid" was Hegseth. A man who is almost singularly unsuited for the role he was given.

But as someone who has had allegations of sexual assault made against him, he is a perfect member for Trump's administration
