Yep was coming on to say the exact same thing. On a pitch that didn't have much for the bowlers other than a change in pace here or there, that was the losing of the game right there. He really should have just gave his wicket away which would have been better for the team. The West Indies total always looked a little light and another 20 or 30 runs might have forced India to try risky shots but they were always in control of the run-rate and they never looked in trouble in the chase.

New Zealand and South Africa about to begin the first semi-final.

New Zealand have won the toss and will bowl. Big toss to win as the dew is usually a huge factor in Kolkata and it will be much tougher for South Africa to deal with it when they have to bowl.

Beat them in the pool stages, and hopefully do so again today.

Aiden Markram caught out, but the ball clearly touched the ground. TMO gives him out. Even the NZ players seemed shocked at the decision.

Karma gave SA a chance, Miller dropped on 3 runs, but then caught out on 6 runs soon after.

Not going well. 77/4 after 10 overs. Maybe make it to 150

Terrible so far from South Africa. Some poor shots getting out to basically part-timers in Neesham and Ravindra.

Quite the big hole to now dig out of.

Another of SA's long history of falling short in a global competition looming here. 113/5...4 to go.

Runs finally coming for South Africa. Stubbs and Jansen now going for it after steadying the innings. 37 runs off overs 17 and 18. They'll try to get 170+ now which would be defendable.

No. 7 is the place to bat. Jansen did a Will Jacks and got them to a decent total. From 77-5, they'll take a target of 170. Hard game to call, South Africa have the bowlers to do the job but like Jansen showed, it's not a 170 pitch.

With a bit of license to go harder once they had steaded themselves, show you that it's probably a 200 score pitch if you keep wickets in hand.

South Africa do have a top bowling attack and will need to disrupt the top order in the same way that McConchie did.

New Zealand 37/0 after 3 overs. Firm favourites from here.

    This is an absolute annihilation.

Half way there in the powerplay. Run a ball left to get, all wickets in hand. No one predicted this.

Just cant get that monkey off their backs. And they wonder why the rugby team has so much more support.

As comprehensive as it gets, best team all tournament routed. Finn Allen taking 14 balls off the fastest hundred record. This game was supposed to be a foregone conclusion.

Looking ominous for England..India 111-1 off 8.5 overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,985 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

England well behind the 8 ball. India might make 240/250 here. The Brook drop 😵‍💫 … to call it a dolly, it just popped up to him and he looked rather casual and complacent and it went through his hands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭VillaMad

That dropped catch by Brook, surely will be the decisive moment in the whole game. If India were 2 down in the powerplay, England may have been able to have some control over the run-rate but now they pretty much on a hiding to nothing.

Archer can wince and pull all the faces but the reality is that good shots yes, but against absolute dross bowling by Jofra.

So far gone for 41 runs from just 3 overs 😵

Penultimate over and Brook brings back his most expensive bowler who also happens to be wicketless… first ball 6 ! The over goes for 20 and Archer is finishing 1-61 from his 4. Economy of 15.25.. Fûck sake. Brook Dropping the ball out on the field in terms of physically and tactically.

Archer though 1-61….ffs. Still the darling of English limited overs in some quarters.

Done, England need 254 to win… 12.7 the required rate.

Fond memories of watching 55 over Benson & Hedges Cup cricket on Sunday Grandstand, when 250 would be regarded as an above par score. (Different rules, surface etc I know)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,985 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    rate climbing, 13.1

Difficult start for Buttler, playing and missing a number of times…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,108 ✭✭✭MFPM

England scoring at a decent rate but 4 wickets down 95/4...India should win comfortably.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 785 ✭✭✭Debub

England very close to doing it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,985 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

that’s the highest ever T20i innings by an English team when batting second. But still got beaten.. previous highest was 230/8 vs SA in ‘16…Archer hadn’t been all over the gaff with the ball, could have been different result.. leaked 61 off 4 overs 😵‍💫

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭Gillespy

He does prance about a bit but Hardik is a terrific all round cricketer. Only bowler along with Bumrah out of both teams to have an economy under ten. Only seven runs difference in the end, his 19th over was vital.

NZ should take heart from that, they can't bowl worse and even though their catching wasn't flawless yesterday, they usually are safe. South Africa, West Indies and now England have showed big runs can be made against India.

Closer Than expected. Some really poor bowling early on by India nearly cost them. Great innings by Bethell.

Best two teams in final, well, NZ beat the best team in semis. Really hope NZ do it

I'd imagine that the whole cricketing world that isn't from India will be hoping that New Zealand will win it. Similar to South Africa, they have only a solitary Champions Trophy along with the World Test Championship. For a country of just 5 million, it really is remarkable how New Zealand continue to do it. They will be massive underdogs again though.

Great game in the end although I wouldn't be a huge fan of having pitches like that all the time. Superb knock by Bethell and he just needed someone else to match that strike-rate and Curran in particular in those crucial last few deliveries just couldn't get going. Bethell amazingly completes the set of an ODI, Test and T20 hundred before ever getting a domestic one. Bumrah's spell was freakishly good which I think ultimately was the deciding factor among the 2 bowling attacks.

Disastrous start by the Kiwis. Two quiet overs to start and then carnage. 92-0 in the powerplay. Abhishek finally clicks and has a 19 ball fifty.

Some innings by Samson but NZ have really pulled India back...in with a shout now.
