What is one thing you would change about history?

Our own indigenous Pagan religion wasn't that bad, even quite enlightened compared to what came after. The early Christian church here was also almost independent of Rome until the Normans and English decided to stay.

Send Dev instead of Collins to negotiate the treaty they'd have locked Dev up and Collins would have had an army waiting for them.

If it was me, I'd change Collins driving through Beal na Blath in 1922. Hopefully he'd have set Ireland on a bit more progressive path than Dev and spared us decades of being a backward insular kip.

Religion is a natural consequences of human's intelligence and inventivity. Inventing those stories and religions required imagination. Using religion to control the masses required leadership. Without imagination and leadership we would be still living in caves.

Humans were arrogant enough to attempt things like hunting bears with sharpened sticks and building flying machines, so I would list arrogance along qualities, not defects.

You need both arrogance and intelligence. You need at least a bit of arrogance to say I can build a flying machine, even if you lack the required knowledge, and the intelligence to recognize that you don't have the knowledge. So you attempt it anyway, and you fail. Others fail after you, until someone succeeds.

I agree with the first part it is a mix of arrogance and intelligence but what made them successful was intelligence. Arrogance to believe I can fly but intelligence to know to build a vehicle to do so. Same with the bear, arrogance to know i can kill a bear but intelligence to know to build a tool to do so at somewhat a safe distance.

Prob somewhat where organised religion stemmed from. Arrogance to know you can lead and organise a group of people, intelligence to use a tool such as religion to do so.

In any case don't take my argument as defending religion - I am a devout atheist myself. But religion is inevitable and inherently linked to human nature. As beings with intellect we need answers, and our imagination will create answers. Often wrong, but many people will more easily accept that God created the universe rather than a singularity event for which asking what was there before doesn't even make sense, as time itself did not exist before it.

I'd encourage Thomas Crooks to improve his aim. Many lives would be saved.

Maybe have a look at Regans deregulation and try to prevent the money taking control of the world to the extent it has.
