    Hi all,

I’ve been doing quite a bit of research into natural stone lately, specifically for some high-traffic areas where a standard white marble might be too soft. I wanted to share some thoughts on Melly Grey Marble and its pairing with various grey granites (like New Halayeb or Silver Grey), as I’ve seen some conflicting info out there.

In my years looking at stone specs, I’ve often advised that if you want the "limestone look" but need something that won't etch the second a lemon touches it, Melly Grey is a solid shout. It’s got a much tighter molecular structure than the softer Carraras.

A few things I’ve picked up regarding Melly Grey:

Vein Patterns: It’s not "stripey." It has more of a cloudy, smoky movement which is great for large-format floor tiles if you want to avoid a busy look.

Durability: While it’s technically a marble, its density sits closer to some hard limestones. I’d still recommend a high-quality penetrating sealer though.

The Pairing: Pairing Melly Grey floors with a darker grey granite countertop (honed finish) creates a really nice tonal contrast without the space feeling cold.

Has anyone here installed Melly Grey recently in an Irish climate? I’m curious how it’s holding up with underfloor heating, as the thermal conductivity specs look promising on paper.

Happy to chat more about the technical side of the Egyptian quarries if anyone is sourcing at the moment!

ChatGPT did pretty well on converting a sales brochure into a first-perspective guerrilla social media posting. 🤣
