"It is unacceptable that leaders who are incapable of fulfilling their duties try to cover up their failure with the smoke of war."

    Nice one, PM Sanchez 👋

    Better :) Accurracy is good!

And given that, I would, indeed, agree that the statements from last year were inaccurate. It’s worth noting that the professionals reporting at the same time were always a little more circumspect in their estimates than the politicians making their grandiose announcements.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s failing socialist government since the summer has had plenty of corruption and other scandals at home, so a bit rich of him to talk about other leaders like that. Spain not paying its fair share to NATO is something else that had the USA annoyed long before the current crises. It's well used to Spain being a freeloader.

Once more he threatens the sovereignty of a NATO nation and nobody on his staff will dare to suggest he ease up on that kind of thing. Given that they can’t even teach this confused old man how percentages work there’s not much hope on the policy front.

It is. Trump has become so alarmed that he has decided to endorse a candidate soon, after which he will ask the loser to drop out! Some doubt that Paxton would actually drop out if told to by Trump. It will still be a massive ask for Talarico to land the great white whale of Democratic Senate politics. Trump won the state by 14 points.

Another week, another military operation, this time in the preposterous war on drugs:

Accuracy is indeed good, but there was no inaccuracy boded in your President and the Commander in Chief of your Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force claim that Iran`s nuclear capabilities were obliterated. In fact did he not state that anyone saying otherwise was fake news ??

Even with the usual semantics and jumping through hoops when it comes to Trump and his cohorts, it is undeniable that Trump either bare-faced lied 8 months ago, or he did on Saturday with his claim of imminent threat. Does that not bother you, or are you just happy to follow the orders of a proven liar regardless of what they are and the directive from your grandiose self named Secretary of War that there are now "No stupid rules of engagement" .

Not that I`m overly surprised at Trump lying. He has form in that area, or at Hegseth either. He has form as well on his department ignoring the rules of engagement where they did likewise and committed a war crime murdering two people clinging to a wrecked boat

I mean the US military is extremely powerful but also the population has historically low interest in serving in it or even supporting any kind of campaign. I don't think this kind of warmongering everywhere all at once is sustainable even with the enormous resources at their disposal. You can't fight the whole world.

He's a politician, I take anything they say with a grain of salt. And I take anything Trump in particular says with an extremely large grain of salt. I think we can find some common ground there, no?

What's wrong with "no stupid rules of engagement?" RoEs are not law either under national or international systems, they are restrictions applied to achieve a political or tactical end in addition to the always-extant laws of war. A politician can remove all the RoE if he wants to (the US never implemented a standing ROE before 1954), though it will risk losing control of a situation. What exactly constitutes a 'stupid' rule of engagement is a matter of opinion. I may or may not share Hegseths' opinion on what one is (Not many examples have been put forward), but there's little wrong with the statement.

This video indicates the Senator, who is a former Navy SEAL officer and thus no less a veteran than the other guy, wasn't touching him at the time of the break. (Assuming that's what the cracking in the audio was).

Free speech is fine subject to time, place and manner restrictions. Interrupting government proceedings is likely to get you removed by police. Resisting such a removal runs the risk of injury. Making political statements while in uniform is also likely to get you charged (Even if separated from the service, 32 CFR Part 53).

Kristi Noem’s Congressional hearing took a decidedly nasty turn yesterday.

She called the question garbage but was careful not to explicitly deny discussing Uganda at the same time.

MAGA MIke Johnson trying to claim “we’re not at war right now” and “they have declared war on us” because Iran attacked three embassies. Could not make it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 332 ✭✭somenergy

A weekend foxnews host with a history of heavy drinking and sexual abuse saying 'Iran is toast' been the most incompetent SOD ever, oath to the constitution holds no meaning why should a foot soldier care.

Iran move cancels out trump-epstein files they ended with Clintons depositions.

No midterms and a potential 3rd term Americans capitulating to everything popularity ratings no longer mean anything and voters probably know their votes won't matter.

I can't figure out whether I'd be more disgusted to know that as a member of the military you've always thought that, or that you've devolved over the recent past to a point now where you're comfortable defending such an idea.

I can't shake the feeling that you're either a card carrying Trump supporter or one that espouses to be neutral with closeted right wing views.

From someone outside your world peering in, and as much as you believe we should take your "insider knowledge" on board, let's see if you can do the same with someone on the other side.

I say that I believe Americans are quasi brainwashed into thinking that joining the army and serving the country is a great honour; that their military is the best in the world, the most righteous, defenders of freedom and if it wasn't for them, the world would be a much more dangerous place, when in reality, they have committed heinous war crimes, and launched multiple wars with no end that have left countries devastated and in far worse conditions than before they got involved.

It seems to me that after service, the military are treated appallingly and Veterans Day and veterans discount are just a shoddy token gesture which is aimed at paying lip service to those left with physical and/or psychological injuries from carrying out their orders, and if their service was truly valued, medical cover to include.much needed counseling would be available, in other words ,actually looking after those that put their life on the line for their country.

It is seems obvious to some of us all the reason why you don't have proper healthcare and education is because arms manufacturers are linked with your politicians to the point where it is reported this latest exercise is costing the country a billion dollars a day. Obscene amounts of money are thrown at endless wars while teachers are spending their own money on school supplies and people are dying because they don't have health insurance.

There is no questioning of why you're doing this. Trump said yesterday this war was based on a hunch.. he had a "feeling" Iran was going to attack. To us, that's absolutely f**king insane, and your arms of government is doing nothing about it, nor are the military leaders.

So there you go. And I'm not a hater of America, before you disregard my view on that basis. I am just old enough to remember being told Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, believing it, watching the unfolding chaos and then finding out it was all bullsh1t.

To conclude - I don't expect you to have an epiphany after reading my post, a "maybe we are the bad guys" meme moment. I don't really care. I'm just trying to convey to you that to outsiders, America isn't the bastion of freedom that you are being told you are, by your government, your military and media, 24/7. Your military honour or standards aren't that far removed from those you claim to be better than, and maybe go have a listen to Dylan's "God on our side" while you're at it

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

There's only one motivation for being in favour of voter disenfranchisement. We don't need to hear the disingenuous reason(s). Yes or no was all that was required.

When Americans tell you they are the bastion of free speech (I'm sure one will be along later to justify this) show them this video.

    They broke his arm!

Luckily Netenyahu doesn't face the same problem. Seems the Israeli population love nothing more than a war

Donald Trump is apparently turning to war-ravaged Ukraine for help in his surprise attack on Iran.

I wonder how will Zelensky handle this request?

They will send any they can spare,as any normal leader would do in that situation.

And yet more "nothing so see here, look over there" from Trump cronies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,031 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Donald trump complaining that other countries aren't willing to help him in his little middle east spat. The same Donald Trump that threatened Denmark/Greenland and wanted huge tariffs on those same countries.

    What was he expecting exactly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭malibu4u

Germany helped. The middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia are helping. Canada and Australia condoned the attack on the Iranian regime.

Ref ROE's, I know that ROE's are engaged in from the very start of a soldier being put on armed duty anywhere, anytime and the present US Sec Defence [ as a veteran] knows that, as does any trained member of the military.

They outline and limit his/her use of issued weapons and ammunition: 1. In defence of the post protected. 2. to prevent the serious destruction of Govt property. 3. to prevent one-self from being forcibly disarmed. 4. to prevent another soldier from being disarmed. 5. to prevent the serious loss of life.

Battlefield ROE's follow that baseplate routine to rein in military from going beyond the limitations their civil administrators set for them to commit acts of criminality. I'd be alarmed if any person in authority decided to set aside or rubbish that baseline of control of armed personnel.

Are you for real???? The senator is the one who goes in and lifts him off the ground by the legs providing the impetus for them to lift and pull him out, he temporarily disengages at the moment of the arm break before pushing again. He is every bit responsible for that as the other officers. You say "assuming that's what the cracking noise was" There's no assumption neccesary Moran, its clear to hear and see the break through his uniform.

Now it's a difficult situation and it's very hard to bring somebody like that under control and I don't think they quite realised the angle and entry of the arm but their actions caused it, all of them, senator included. To say otherwise is demonstrably FALSE.
