    to be fair, he doesnt.

his "join" onto turner is soft and slight, but theres certainly enough there for it to look like he joins turner and then slips up, which is absolutely allowed.

Law 16:7(b) Fagerson doesn't 'bind on' to the hindmost player.

Had 'Tempo' brought that to Carley's attention we might have (& imo should have) seen a different decision. I presume that, following protocol, that Tempest reviewed and didn't detect any offence. Carley's TMOs intervene less often. Whether this is a tribute to the high standard of Carley's reffing or whether Carley has made his opinions on TMO interventions very clear beforehand is a matter of opinion.

there is a very clear bind.

Fagerson is allowed to slip up from this position

That still shot makes it look like he's bound at that moment, but in real time he brushes over the ball carrier's back before binding onto players ahead of the ball. See at 4:40 in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtD1YDt61Xs

Binding is defined in the Laws as :

Grasping another player’s body firmly between the shoulders and the hips with the whole arm in contact from hand to shoulder.

I can see what you indicate, I just don't see it as a 'bind'.

yeah, this isnt a hill im going to die on.

for me theres more than enough of an effort for it to look like theres a bind and slip…

i would just take issue that that of all things to pick referees up on, the legality of that particular incident is so minimal and subjective that its no where near a big deal.

in my opinion that would be allowed every single time. Refs whistling "joining a maul ahead of thw ball" is generally where there is no contact at all made.

For me it's close enough. Makes a token effort to bind on the last player before sliding up. No ref is going to ping that.

Its like you never see refs say anything about players in the caterpillar with a knee on the ground. Technically they're off their feet so are not part of the ruck. That means the ball is out.

I will say, it's rather inverted from how a maul is meant to function. The player with the ball is supposed to work himself behind players who join, not players joining and pushing forward into and through defenders.

France will do the grand slam for sure, i m just a bit worried about the way they dominate any beginning of match : 22-0 against Ireland at 34', Wales 19-0 at 15', Italy 19-0 at 29'…it must be difficult to manage the end of the game after such an early domination

They've ridden an absurd amount of luck this tournament, not that they aren't worth their wins. Feels like every breaking ball has gone in their favour this year.

Weirdly, as good as they've looked in pockets of this tournament, I still dunno if I'd back them to beat the Boks in a must win game this weekend.

When they're clicking, they are as good an attacking force as any side I've ever seen, but they don't have a track record of scrapping out a dogfight game yet.

I'd love to see them face the Boks in a big game again soon just to see what Rassie would scheme up to contain them.

Wales up on Friday night. Have to say Friday night games seem like a better idea than Sunday games.

The actual Six Nations trophy has been destroyed - playing for a replica only this year

probably will be. will be interesting to see how crowd/atmosphere is. internationals are normally a longer walk up than leinster games in aviva as leinster games are usually late walk ins to ground very close to kick off with international crowds going in much earlier after gates open. a Friday night kick off could change that a fair bit

Is that a completely new backline from the Ireland game? Looks a huge amount of changes.

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 44,924 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

freeman moves from wing to center, other than than its completely new.

Why give Pepper, who had two monumental brain farts, the start over Pollock? I don't get sweeping changes to the backline but much less in the forwards. Don't think it was the back lines fault they lost the game. Could be worth putting a few bob on Italy.

Is Daly really the best they can find for 15? Quite fancy Italy for this. If they can get an early lead, England will be under some amount of pressure. Meloncello is going to have Freeman on toast.

Definitely fancy Italy for this with that amount of changes. Reeks of Borthwick getting desperate for a response. England may sneak it but can't see it being bigger than a score in either teams favour.

Why have Marcus Smith at 23 ?, is he covering 10-15 ?. Freeman looked clueless at 13 & yet he's back there. Ford is left out completely. No better 22 than Van Poortvliet ?

Italy will be encouraged by this selection.

The backline went to pieces for a lot of the match, particularly on defense creating dog legs as some guys committed to the system while others were a step or two out of position. Some of our line breaks were absolute brain farts on England's part. Same in attack, just not on the same page, which produced dropped ball and turnovers. Still some and selections that smack of panic. Italy will take this as their best chance ever to beat England.

Ireland back to third in the rankings, England 5th.

I think England will beat Italy if they keep their discipline. With the lack of intensity shown against Ireland they might over compensate with the aggression. We shall see

Top two anthems in the world. Loving the passion.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Quality try for Scotland there, some lovely pop passes to put runners through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,870 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Good start for the Scots, looking well up for it.

Hopefully France can get into this and break their mental spine, or we'll have a lot of trouble with them next week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭FtD v2

French look a bit rattled, a lot of their players moaning at the referee etc. Scots look very fired up.

Why did France kick that. They can pick and go. They have the power players to do it
