Wolves having a last ditch crack fighting like rabid dogs it seems.

The only thing that would give you a bit of hope tomorrow is that Chelsea have had 2 days less rest than Villa, and probably chased a few more shadows than Villa did at Wolves.

Will be a different kind of game too, with most of the games that Villa have struggled in lately being ones where they’re expected to take the initiative and win.

I'd say it's more that now its inevitable, in a strange way pressure is off, they can just play adventurously, go for wins (where previously if every point counted, they'd pack the box).

I can remember seeing this a few times, where teams that were relegated suddenly go on a run.

Also add in players looking to stay in Premier League and trying to showcase themselves to remaining teams

Still, now possibility of 6 point gap on 5th and 9 point gap on 6th, if we suddenly, magically, rediscover our spark

Given our form, and the Liverpool result, I would be delighted with a draw tomorrow.

The pessimist in me says that Liverpool losing last night means it’s more likely we will squander the opportunity and mess things up. But yes common sense says we take a draw, a win and we’re almost there for CL qualification

Like others here I’ll be happy should we get a draw tonight, It would still need to be a win for me to be delighted.

We’re most likely going to need to score to get just a draw so going to have to improve a lot in our passing, movement, set plays and finishing.

Midfield will be difficult for us to win and retain the ball, Would we be better to start Bogarde with Onana and Luiz in front and concentrate on protecting the defence? Sancho or Buendia would have to make way but it might mean more freedom for Maatsen/Cash to attack and allow Rogers to go wider. It would probably need Abraham starting but does sound counter to what Emery wants.

Hold on, are we mathematically out of the title race?

Still in it, assuming Man City and Arsenal fall off a cliff we just have to hold off Chelsea and Liverpool and get a point more than Man United and we can book the flights for the parade.

I live in Canada, 5 hours behind. It was 'tomorrow' when I made that comment! 😉

No, win today and we're only 8 points behind, and given that Arsenal always collapse, Man City will have 60 points deducted annnnnny day now, Jim Radcliffe will insult more Man Utd fans to point players will quit, Liverpool are still in midst of Salah farewell syndrome and Chelsea can't finish a match with 11 on the pitch - that'll make it a straight fight between us, Brentford and Sunderland

Watkins and Bailey start, at least Maatsen in for Digne

This is getting to MON levels of stubbornness.

Disaster of a line up, Chelsea can double and treble up on Rogers because the other 3 attacking players are woefully out of form

Is it? Other than Watkins/Abraham, Mings/Torres and Bailey/Sancho is almost no choices to be made.

None of those decisions seem to be where the recent run of form is being won and lost.

I think Abraham should have started ahead of Watkins in some of the games where you’d expect to be on the front foot and creating chances, but Watkins way better suited to a battle like Chelsea even if I wouldn’t bet my life on him converting at the moment.

I just have a gut feeling we'll win. Villa have a tendency to do something special when no-one expects it, and equally to destroy hope when you think things are great.

So, since we're unanimously saying we're doomed, I'm going with a 2 - 0 win, Watkins and Bailey to score (Chelsea reduced to 10 2nd half so naturally they'll dominate from then)

Bailey starting after his last home performance seems a bit strange but we’re not leaving many goals on the bench. Hopefully Bailey can bring us up the pitch and force a bit of space for Rogers. Mings back in means it’s up to Luiz to pick the passes if we go through the middle as normal. Maatsen will need to get forward plenty, hopefully we can get on the ball enough to get attacking opportunities.

Assist from Bailey, back to the future!

    What a move

I'm just getting frustrated at the inability to get fresh bodies in, the injuries and insistence on playing Watkins.

1-0 up in two minutes so what do I know? 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,955 ✭✭✭Patser

Dibu doing his part as well.

If Chelsea now have to come at us, then Rogers should have space to operate in

When was the last time Watkins scored a one on one?
