Only qualm I'd have with that 23 is that it is a another ideal opportunity to give Edogbo 20 mins from the bench and maybe give Joe Mc or Beirne the night off.

Rory O’Connor says Farrell & co want Edogbo to get fitter.

You really didn't. He has played against SA twice, a loss and the last minute drop goal game.

The last minute drop goal game was the perfect encapsulation of him being a good rugby player but not a great 10.

folks, can we take a second to remember that it’s centre not center. The game’s gone.

When I read this type of stuff about Keenan I do thank the god stars that Boards posters like myself are not selectors or coaches as we would crush the national squad & performance between us. Common thread is murdering a young players performance whilst they learn valuable learning lessons before they even get going or prematurely putting a great talent out to pasture prematurely. Same repetitive craziness!! Always sounds credible in the moment but over time looks stupid at best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,803 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

Couldn't agree more. Cant wait to see Keenan back at 15 for Ireland, and that opens the possibility of having a look at Osborne at 13, which is an exciting prospect when the time is right.

I think TOB is very hard done by to be out of the 23 completely. Fair enough to give Stockdale a shot at redemption after Paris and TOB's right-sidedness probably counted against him, but tough on him nonetheless.

Frawley and Aki on the bench is not inspiring tbh, lots of solid cover for centre but that's about it. Obviously Prendergast hasn't rediscovered his mojo yet.

Otherwise, grand. Leaving a fit Dan Sheehan out is a big shout but tbh it's no harm to give Kelleher a start and Stewart definitely is worth a few minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,803 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

Are we worried about Kelleher's lineout? We really don't need to give Wales any momentum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,307 ✭✭✭TRC10

The worry would be that the scrum and lineout give Wales access into the game and we get sucked into a frustrating dogfight like we did last year, especially if our scrum is as bad as it’s been last 2 games. O’Toole at LH won’t help.

If Ireland are serious about moving O’Toole to LH, they need to get him playing there week in-week out, for whatever province that may be for

If Ireland are serious about moving O’Toole to LH

He's fifth choice LH, they're probably not that serious about it.

Kelleher's lineout is fine. It's not at Sheahan's level but it's more than good enough.

People talk about the props being a weak link at scrum time, but Sheahan has been just as poor as them. Kelleher's a much better scrummager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,884 ✭✭✭For Petes Sake

So we drop easily our best full back and, arguably, one of our best players?

Osborne has been good at 15, but a fit Keenan is another level entirely.

The idea that no player can come back into the team is utter nonsense. We used to hear it with Sexton whenever one of his inferior understudies put in a solid performance.

It's the very definition of biting off your nose to spite your face. Until Keenan shows he can't hack it at the top level anymore, then he starts every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

And Osborne's a better player than Hugh Gavin.

I like the look of that Ireland side. Some experimentation throughout the 23, rewarding players for good form. There's also a lot of impact to come off the bench, especially up front.

I do think Stockdale needs a big game though. He's clearly a player the coaches want to platform and come good, but he hasn't taken many of his recent opportunities.

Team is out 6 Ulster playere involved. Farrell has finally seen sense with regard to Sam Prendergast, he probably should have gone to Connacht as he now even behind Byrne at Leinster

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 33,850 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Don't really understand why Sam wasn't released to play Cardiff and will continue to hate Frawley covering 10. Nor do I really get having Farrell on the bench.

But those minor points aside its a good and fresh looking 23.

I know clubs mean nothing as players hardly ever play AIL

Interesting you have 2 Munster players for Lansdowne

    Never noticed that before

Delighted Nathan Doaks on the bench, from a Munster man.

I hope Doak gets 20 minutes, see what he's like at this level.

    Good team.

Delighted to see Doak get a shot. Unfortunately I don’t think Casey has looked up to it despite 28 appearances and 10 starts since 2021. Good provincial player but I think his size is a major achilles hill. Himself and Prendergast really struggled against Italy.

Doak can goal kick, is big for a 9 and can cover 10 if needs be. Also gives a nice counter balance to what JGP brings to the 9 jersey in the way Conor Murray did. Hoping it goes well for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭bingobango12

Not a huge amount of complaints from me on that team. TOB not involved at all feels harsh, no need to rest him from as he was dropped for Italy so management can't point to that. Stockdale needs a really big game. Feel he is running out of chances at this level.

Would possibly have given Ringrose a rest and started 1 of Farrell/Postlethwaite. Can see the logic in not a huge amount of unforced changes though.

Excited to see Doak and Stewart, both having excellent seasons. Can see Doak leapfrogging Casey if he takes his chance.

Cian Prendergast is unlucky he plays where he does. A great player but losses out due to the back row being so stacked.

Bryne has the worst luck. A concussion in one of the worst matches in Irish rugby history costs him a likely 6Ns appearance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,332 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Think Milne is very lucky to be included after his high error count last weekend.

Good to see Doak get a chance, I’m skeptical that he has the speed or physicality for this level but will happily be proven wrong.

This could very easily become one of those games where the majority of the backline are all playing out of position by the time the clock hits 80.

VDF and McCarthy off the bench should be enough to deal with any confidence Wales start to grow if they are still in it at 50 mins.

What’s important though is to prove that the England game wasn’t a flash in the pan. We need a solid error free performance again with set piece holding up because it’s the area every team is going to target as being our weakest

Stockdale is lucky, I didn't expect him to rotate back in so quickly.

A home game against an abject Wales team, he really does need to grab this opportunity with both hands as there will be no excuses for not putting in a performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,868 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Physicality? He's competing for a jersey with Craig Casey?!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 33,850 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Not sure why you think he was likely to get an appearance? The very fact he was released suggests otherwise?

Don’t think physicality can go against Doak when he is up against Casey to be honest.
