The other issue being a lot of these players are heading to the World Cup so any new manager will at best have 4 weeks between final and start of new season.

Oh yeah, for sure… it's a very expensively assembleed bunch of very good players, most of whom have a lot to offer the club still going forward.

That's a good point. It could end up another dead season for a rebuild. Move on a new manager now and hopefully scrape a CL place which absolutely cannot be lost. Keep with Slot and despite 5 places up for grabs, we miss out.

    Like exactly.

Is it really strange to think another manager get more out of this sqaud when you see what others are achieving with their relative resources/managers?

We've caught a bit of a break that Villa and Chelsea play each other tomorrow, so at least one of them will be taking a hit (hopefully both).

What was Jones at, at first I was thinking '' well done for winning it back '' and then he runs towards our goal with ball, not up field and away from danger, nope this **** brings ball closer to our goal, and plays it to an under pressure Alisson

We only reacted and attacked when we conceded. Upped the intensity.

So that begs the question, is slots tactics to "control" the game with creating nothing and hope to fluke the win with a bit of magic or a goal from a set piece?

    Utter garbage.

I think he's trying to dampen the energy, trying to keep the team more robotic. It's not necessarily a bad thing when you already have a good mentality and are chasing a league title because it enables you to drown out the pressure. But when the team is floundering, and no clear direction, then I think it just keeps resetting them every game, like a broken record. They go out, and have to find a rhythm and intensity in every single game, instead of having it from the get go carried from the previous game and the dressing room. It's why we can't score in the first half, and also why sudden triggers like conceding a goal snap them back awake again.

I think some of it could be that the players might just not like it either. I can't see Van Dijk or Salah or Alisson being too happy with how we're playing, even if they're professional enough to go out and do what they're told.

If they don't buy in they'll struggle to keep up the concentration and work ethic for the full 90 minutes each game.

I just remembered we have to play them again on Friday too, my word what can we expect from that. Probably be a fair bit of handbags on the go too, touch wood no significant injuries.

Both Virg and Slot giving out about being too slow and pedestrian. Make it make sense

    Mentality monsters no longer.

Expectations will be very low. We were no better than Wolves. Given it's the FA cup, I don't think I want to sit through another 90 mins of that rubbish.

I'd also say that a good few of the goals we are conceding this season are down to individual errors but the same can be said for our goals, just waiting for a minute of magic.

I'm 90% sure Slot will leave during the summer. We have a very good first 11 and and a few good backups but we do need to add players.

We've missed Wirtz the last few games which is no surprise but I think Ekitike could do with playing a few less minutes, he looks like he's tiring in the second half of games now and he's not affecting games as much late on.

That's down to the coaching Arne. He needs to take responsibility for that. Own it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,163 ✭✭✭✭banie01

We have become a team of Michael Carricks...
That game tonight was turgid, laboured, pedestrian and absolutely awful to watch.
The trajectory and the performances of the team as coached by Arne surely speak for themselves?

The "battle" for 5th is well and truly underway and I have no confidence that a team set up by Slot can secure that without a significant degree of luck.
Luck that a squad of our quality shouldn't need to rely on.

Fear. Things are going bad and they are just afraid to make a mistake so try to take the safe option.

There's been plenty of clips this season of Slot going mad on the sideline when we pass it back or play it safe. But if he's not able to get the players to listen then he isn't doing his job.

I did a rough tot and estimated we will get 14 points from the remaining games totaling 62 ~ AI predicts 64/65. This should secure 5th but we cant foresee what fatigue will do given the current rinse and repeat team seletionn and tactics.

If we got half the decisions united are we would be far better off in the table too. There was as much a penalty on Salah early today as the one united got at the weekend and how that blatant handball wasn’t given it’s beyond me. Couple that with the push on Virgil for their goal, not really a free but as much a push as the one that got spurs a goal denied against arsenal.

we get absolutely zero decisions. Even in that last few mad minutes there was multiple fouls on Liverpool players that would have killed the momentum wolves had and all waved away.

Arne lost respect when he didn't deal with the Salah issue properly. He looked weak imo. It was a tough once for him tbf.

He's 100% gone in the summer imo. Salah probably is too.

    Liverpool this season:

-Fulham: take lead on 94, concede on 97, draw 2-2

-Chelsea: equalise on 63, concede on 95, lose 2-1

-Palace: equalise on 87 mins, concede on 97, lose 2-1

-United: equalise on 78, concede on 84, lose 2-1

-Bournemouth: equalise on 80, concede on 95, lose 3-2

-Leeds: take lead on 90, concede on 96, draw 3-3

-Wolves: equalise on 83, concede on 93, lose 2-1

Like someone said already - the owners need to make a decision soon. Sticking with slot into next season could have significant long lasting implications. We could lose a few players this summer if CL football is gone. It’s just nowhere near good enough.

Love to see a little change up front in the FA Cup match… Rio left, Mo centre, Chiesa right. Ekitike needs a game off, and the two lads need some time to get sharp for the run in (however much Slot resists using Fede, we're too light on bodies to let lads fall to rust).

Yeah, Ekitike looks tired. Would prefer to see Chiesa get 45 to 60 and then bring a fresher Ekitike on

Beaten by the bottom club who changed manager mid-season to bring about an uplift in form. Lost ground in a dogfight for top 5 against 3 teams, 2 of which changed manager mid-season to bring about an uplift in form.

5 places for CL saves us hopefully. Was a serious lack of running tonight when Wolves broke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 886 ✭✭✭SodiumCooled

There is 0% chance of a manger change before the end of the season and even then I think the chances are fairly low to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,660 ✭✭✭lee_baby_simms

Yeah you’re probably right. Just the idea of going into another season with Slot and with the same old ideas that don’t work is a very depressing thought. We need a change in the summer or we could seriously regress as a club.

People on here say it's a choice how we play, and it comes from Slot, but after games he's always the one complaining about it, so it doesn't add up, unless it's all an act after the game.
