This might make me sound insane, but I've felt this all season long.

As good as Szoboszlai is at what he does, the fact that he is our lynchpin serves as a microcosm of what we've become under Slot.

Forever trying to 'calm things down'. Forever slowly building up play. No pace. Forever playing it neat and simple. Happy to recycle it more often than not.

It's just not what we are, or what this team has been.

This is not me blaming him. But I do think the fact that he seems to be our 'best player' shows where we are, and where I think Slot wants us to go.

yep..well we wanted the 3pts but it's like the teams first thought is safety - back to the keeper or side to side…

I've genuinely just had enough of watching how we play tbh. We're awful to watch and have been for far too long.

We've gone completely away from the free-flowing, fast pressing, attacking game that's served us so well for over a decade, and I'm not really sure why.

It's a sign of what the manager instills.

Go back or sideways rather than drive and make things happen.

It was a crap clearance by Alison, but Jones put him under pressure.

Jones won the ball back late in the game at 1-1, a game we absolutely should be winning, and his choice was to pass it backwards.

whether this was his instinct, or because nobody showed for the ball to allow a positive pass, it’s indicative of the negative, pedestrian **** football we’ve been plagued with all season.

I think the team really lacks clarity of purpose. it’s like all the players are just waiting for someone else to do something special.

we play with fear until we are forced out of our shell.

    Warning issued.

The energy we played with in the 5 minutes or so after Wolves scored their first was how we used to play for the full 90 minutes every game…..

Winning the league last season bought him this season… put it this way, had he not won the league last season I expect might have lost his job around early December. It buys him a good proper amount of time to turn thigns around - but it doesn't buy him next season. I would expect he'll finish out the season, and then be replaced in the summer. I only see him going earlier if the players go into open revolt, or if whoever they want as first choice replacement is only available 'now or never', which is unlikely to be the case.

The question I have is, would someone else do better with this collection of players?

The last 3 performances (even the 5-2) have left me scratching my head. We should be building on positive results but we're stuck in a rut of low tempo, indecisive football.

Four league wins out of Eleven.

On the opposite hand if we hadn't conceded so many late goals we'd be further up the table looking at Arsenal.

You can't exclude late point earned and ignore late points dropped. We are where we are and haven't been good this season.

I dont want us to be a reactionary club. But the fear is real if we miss champs league football that we will slide.

Also, Slot for this whole season has shown no glimmer of what he is trying to achieve. Whats the end goal for this team that he is shaping. There is no redeeming features there.

It feels like im watching versions of the same game with the same mistakes over and over again

I’m not Slot out but there’s no arguing that the football on offer is terrible. There’s zero intensity or pressure, the team looks physically and mentally fragile. The most disheartening thing for me about slot is that his game management has gone to pieces. If it’s not working he does very little to change it and regularly we end up being worse.

Deserves time to sort it out as he did show last year that he’s capable. But it’s no wonder that fans are starting to look at a change, especially with Alonso not currently in a job.

So against teams in the bottom half we have 2 draws against Leeds, draw against Burnley, defeat to Wolves, 3 0 defeat at home to Notts Forrest, defeat to Crystal palace, draw against Fulham. One or two bad results is expected but that amount is absolutely unacceptable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

Yep, I keep expecting them to kick on, and then they just keep falling back, it's almost like there is no impact from positive results, no emotion, no momentum. A sort of purgatory, limbo state of mind.

Don't see the point of playing ekitike without wirtz, no one tried to play anything into him all game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,136 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

It's a collection of players who've all - bar maybe Ekitike - played better than they are playing this season, so i think it's reasonable to think someone else might get more out of them.

To people who think Slot shouldn't go before the end of the season, do ye not realise there are real consequences associated with where we will finish this season? It's not some clean break. It could and likely will influence the trajectory of the team for years.

the amount of times this season we conceded goals late and jones is there in the background of every replay on the TV speaks volumes to his contribution coming on a sub this season. Hes played a part in almost late goal we conceded - I really hope the links to inter are true but I standby the fact he’s not good enough for Liverpool .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,530 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Szobozlai wasn't that under Klopp or last season under Slot. He was always the fella bursting his bollocks closing everyone down, covering space and working hard up and down the pitch. I'd imagine he's been asked to do a different job/role this season and that's why he's doing the slow, patient recycling stuff.

16 points from 24 against the bottom 4 teams in the league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

It's going to be a lot cheaper to give someone else a go with this group, than rip the whole thing up and start again.

There are a lot of problems with this team in terms of physicality/athleticism but I've real question marks now about Slots ability to motivate them.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,306 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I’d honestly love to know what the message is in training and before games.

Is Slot trying to light a fire under them or is he trying to keep them calm. Cause as you say, we don’t seem capable of building momentum.

Gakpo and Salah cant take people on out wide - Macca doesnt have the legs to do what he's being asked to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,406 ✭✭✭shamrock55

We need a huge reset in the summer.

That includes getting rid of alot of dross from this team and the manager.

We need to get back to playing the liverpool way, with fight and passion.

This wont happen if slot stays.

Its time also for vd, konate, salah, gakpo, jones, macallister, chiesa to all move on and let us rebuild

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 750 ✭✭✭Mr.CoolGuy

That's actually better than what I expected, but i think I was confusing bottom 4 with newly promoted teams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

The consequences of missing CL could be dire. We've laughed at United for years but they will be in the CL next season and we probably won't.

Not sure, they would probably have them playing better though.
