What do people think is the likelihood we're going to see another 9/11 level attack on the US in the coming weeks/months as a direct result of Trump's illegal strikes on Iran?

Personally it feels almost certain that there'll be some larger scale attack than the Texas gunman the other night. I'd just hope that the target is somewhere like the Whitehouse (or Mar-a-Lago since it'd be far less well defended) so that only the guilty die this time around…

Given that Trump and ghouls has gutted the intelligence agencies I imagine the chances of trying to stop some sort of attack have diminished.

But who knows maybe the Saudis will strike again, God only knows who will get blamed for it though.

Trump has made himself a legitimate target though in this new world order of eliminating and kidnapping leaders.

He isn't actually that safe considering Young Sheldon was an ear lobe away from blowing his head off, and crazy Dad in the bushes got within seconds of him.

There hasn't been much blowback domestically from us backed genocide in gaza.

Id imagine most Iranians in the US are royalists anyway, judging by the fleg fests. A lot of them could be Israeli's posing as Iranians.

Tanker fees from Middle East to China route (where vast majority of the oil and gas went) has gone up from 50,000 to 420,000 day

The Chinese at some stage might have to send their navy to escort their own shipping and protect from Iranian attacks

Two wrongs don't make a right. If you think Israel and Trump are bombing the **** out of Iran to make it a better place then you're either taking the maga Kool aid or just thick. 787 dead after 2 days. There will be a lot more than 30k once this is over and it won't stop when the bombs stop dropping.

Not really the point. Not many expressed sympathy for Assad in Syria, Hussein in Iraq, the Taliban in Afghanistan. However, none of these populations as a whole thrived post foreign intervention.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend” while maybe satisfying is not a sound basis for the future. Right now we are not seeing mass displays of support for the war in the streets of Iran.

On a minor tangent, it's voting day here in Texas. I am likely to try a different polling station this time, as I'm heading an unusual direction as I'm running my errands (I can vote at any of a couple hundred polling sites in the county, depending on where I am at the time and how long the lines might be. Not that I expect them to be long today).

As an independent, I also get to choose which primary I'm going to vote in. Realistically, I'm in a somewhat more red part of the state (but my current federal House representative is a moderate Republican), so I can either vote for my preferred challenger to whoever is going to be the 'favourite' in November, or I can vote to try to have more influence on who that favourite actually will be. I do miss California's two-round/jungle primary voting system.

    Sample ballots here:

    https://home.bexar.org/electionsresources/ballots/PrimaryDem_498.pdf

The Senate seat is a fascinating race. The current incumbent is Cornyn, a reliable conservative with a long track record in congress (and age to match), though not really the MAGA camp like some. He is facing a massive challenge in the form of Ken Paxton. For those who don't pay attention to TX state politics, Paxton is the current Attorney General, and is one of the most right-wing folks out there. He developed the anti-abortion 'private lawsuit' system we have now. He's so far out from the party, he even got impeached by the Republican-dominated state government a couple years ago… but still handily won re-election. Polling has Paxton currently with a slight lead. There is a third candidate in the form of Wesley Hunt, but he's only polling at about 2/3 of the other two. There are a bunch of also-rans on the ballot, most of whom I've never heard of.

The GOP establishment dollars for the Senate primary are going to support Crockett and Cronyn.

Jasmine Crockett, a current Congressional representative for Dallas is in a tight race herself, against James Talarico, currently a state house representative for the North Austin area. She had been the favourite until recently, just received the Kamala Harris endorsement, but recent polling has Talarico caught up, if not slightly leading. Crockett is definitely on the liberal side of the camp with base and establishment support, but Talarico is a "progressive Christian", with significant financial backing. He's the guy who Colbert interviewed, CBS wouldn't air, and got the interview released on youtube instead. His actual policy positions don't seem far different to Crockett's in most cases (He is not as anti-gun, which is a not insignificant factor in Texas as Beto discovered), but I'm not sure how much attention folks pay to the details.

The Republicans would vastly prefer to go up against Crockett. They estimate that either Cornyn or Paxton would beat her. Talarico is a different prospect. They think Cronyn would be in for a fight, whilst Paxton has an excellent chance of losing to him. Hence the Republicans are campaigning (obviously not quite as openly) for Crockett to win the primary. The fact that this is known may also be contributing to Talarico's rise, though it may not be sufficient to counter the effects of Crockett support.*

Given the amount of electioneering I've seen for the Democrat candidates for the federal House in my district, I suspect they have little hope of winning. It's a matter of which Republican is going to win. The incumbent, Gonzales, was reasonably safe until an affair scandal hit a couple weeks ago. He has the Trump endorsement, but the lead opponent, Herrera (the Guntuber) is distinctly more conservative, and is doing better in the polls than he was last time around he fought Gonzales. The Republicans are also suffering from a split ballot: The other candidates for the position, Barton and Conseco are also not as conservative as Herrera… and thus may pull votes from Gonzales.

There is a list of names up for Governor, though I doubt Abbott is at risk. The Attorney General race, however, is more interesting. Some may say that anyone would be an improvement over Ken Paxton, but I see Chip Roy's name on there. He's about as MAGA as they come, currently a congressional representative.

Downballot, I have to do a quick bit of research. I haven't looked into judges or whatever.

The Primaries are also an opportunity for the parties to poll voters for policy positions. Most of the Republican ones are typically Republican, though I do note a poll on establishing term limits on all elected officials. I see nothing unexpected on the Democrat side.

*I can't help but think of a similarity at the Presidential level in two years. Democrats and liberals may well want folks like Newsom to run, but I suspect Republicans would be more afraid of less… base-supported opposition.

I saw lots of support on the streets in Iran on the TV the other night. However, given the regime has shot 30,000 protestors in the previous 2 months, and imprisoned and tortured others, I guess it would be a dangerous place to be celebrating the death of the Supreme Leader, who ruled for 40 years, probably longer than many protestors are alive.

I support the tens of thousands of protestors killed in Iran this year alone, and the others tortured etc. And people affected in countries where the Supreme Leader exported his terrorism.

Tens of thousands killed sounds far fetched to me.

Well, for January alone ( and protestors have been killed in Iran for decades), according to wiki, On 25 January, Time reported that a specific list included 30,304 protest-related deaths registered in civilian hospitals for 8 and 9 January alone.

    [3]

The same day, Iran International estimated the total number of deaths at ~36,500.

    [4]

On 28 January, The Guardian reported that the death toll could be more than 30,000, and that less than 10% of deaths may have been officially registered.

Based on the assumption that Iran killed 30000 with small arms fire over a couple of days while Israel dropped the equivalent of several hiroshimas on Gaza over the last couple of years and only managed to slaughter 75000. Seems far fetched but then it seems only Gaza casualties get questioned.

DOW is ouch today, one of Trump's achilles heels is the DOW, he often Tacos when that plunges.

Down over 1000 today alone, now sitting near 47,800. Still historically high, but a long way from his glorious 50k

It's probably mostly Israeli propaganda. I'm sure their telling anyone who'll listen that that girls school they hit was actually a uranium enrichment facility.

The world might be a safer place if they just gave him back his golf clubs.

I can think of a more satisfying use for Trump's golf clubs that would definitely lead to the world being a safer place…

CNN, as seen here, has Paxton as likely [going by poll figures] to lose the race… I don't know much about the two Dems, mostly the read seems to be that Talarico is higher profile due to the TV interview shut-down.

How are you going to have to present yourself at the polling station [if not posting in] where it comes to identity presentation? Will a uniform be seen as a bona fide?

It'd be a sign of how things actually were going to work out on the ground if there was pushback against voters by "Karen" self appointed watchdogs extra to the real supervisors at the stations trying to assist voters voting.

Great summary Manic. Talarico v Paxton really seems to be the Dems best chance of nicking the seat. Would be a massive win for them trying to get to 51.

The level and quality of analysis from the major American orgs, as well as general online is so poor these days. It is possible for the following to be true:

The Ayatollah was an awful person. The Iranian regime was anti-human rights and a disaster for the population. What Donald Trump has launched is a bad thing.

Yes, the Ayatollah is gone. But what replaces him? We now have most of the Middle Eastern countries involved to some degree or another with this war. There is no sense of a plan here. But all of the outlets are either "THIS IS AWFUL" or "USA USA USA" with no sense of actual analysis or interpretation. It's the same here, we have posters saying this is great because the bad man is gone, but that's only 1 part of a wider story.

I have never had any issues with identification in the polls here. I show up, hand over my ID (Normally one of my State IDs, as it's easier for the computer system than my federal one), and am handed a ballot within 60 seconds. I don't recall ever having voted in uniform, I do not believe there is a prohibition on it and can't imagine why there would be an issue were I to try.

I have also never seen a 'watchdog' or 'poll monitor' or whatever, though to be fair, I've never thought to keep an eye out for any.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist. I always go to the polling site on voting day. Even when I had a mail-in ballot in California, I'd fill it out at home at the last minute, then drive in and hand-deliver it.

Anyway, off on my errands now. As a conversational aide, the leaves fall from the trees in spring around here, so my pool filters get clogged easily.

Trump border boss under investigation by Minnesota prosecutors for unlawful conduct

"The Trump administration made clear it had no interest in investigating the incidents that led to the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, other than to possibly investigate the victims' ties to radical groups".

No interest in the Epstein Files either.

Literally gives the two fingers to everybody and anybody.

    This .

That big round bump looks like some sort of skin cancer to me .

Also noted he has had his hair coloured recently . Think that's why he was wearing the cap in the last few days , maybe it went off colour and needed a toner but he was a little bit busy with all the wars and stuff ! 😊

How many more is he going to insult. Threatening to use Spain's bases and that Spain won't stop them if they want to use them.

Then basically saying Starmer is not Winston Churchill. Hopefully more countries follow Spain's lead

If there is a 911 style attack, there won't be anywhere near the shock or upset there was in 2001. Hopefully the white house gets a direct hit. A huge percentage of the American population have no idea what is going on and couldn't care less what their government does outside of the US. Flattening part of the white house would be satisfying beyond belief.
