    Liverpool by 3 goals???

Wolves have 11pts in their 11 games. They have conceded 12 goals in those 11 games having played Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Utd.

You think Liverpool will score 3 or more goals tonight?

On the substitutions delays, there are enormous screens, there’s a tannoy. What the **** are we doing watching a fella stroll off, the 4th official then fannys about with a hand held gadget, holds up another number, someone on the pitch goes “who me?”, shakes hands with the ref, waves to the crowd, then strolls off. The 4th official goes again……. This is the 21st century and we can’t make three simultaneous substitutions. Really?

Two things would eliminate this completely. All the substitutions appear on the big screen, keep playing, and let the 4th official make sure a player has left the pitch before the sub comes on. The onus is then on the team making the substitutions to do it as fast as possible to minimize being caught short. No break up in play, and managers would have to make a substitution for a reason other than breaking up play.

As an Arsenal fan, I would welcome a tightening of the rules on corners.

When watching every single goal Arsenal have scored from a corner this season, a penalty could have been given. At the weekend Gyokeres was being fouled when one of the goals were scored.

If less holding was allowed, Arsenal would score from most corners, and would usually get a penalty when they didn't.

The difference between Arsenal and the rest is the quality of delivery from Rice and Saka, and the movement of Gabriel, Saliba and others like Martinelli. With any change in the rules, that advantage is increased rather than decreased.

Definitely think the easiest solution to implement is no attacking players in the six yard box before the kick is taken, any infringement being a free out.

No hands would be ideal but I can’t see the referees enforcing it consistently.

As for VAR - a limit on checks is the most obvious thing they could do to improve it and I’m shocked they don’t already have one. 90 seconds is more than enough time to see if there’s any evidence that contradicts the on field decision. Any longer and it’s perfectly reasonable to stick with the refs call.

I don't get the mad rush to ban attackers from the 6yd box, a corner is meant to reward the attacking team.

The time limits would be pointless just have a keeper sit down "injured" and take as long as you want to prepare for the set piece. Phantom keeper injuries are an issue.

Yes, but football is also supposed to be entertaining. There is less holding and better enforcement of that rule in American Football than there is in soccer at the moment.

Mod: Just going to step in here and direct everyone talking about what rule changes they'd make to this thread:

The game we all love - what would you change? — boards.ie - Now Ye're Talkin'

We're getting a bit off topic.

90 seconds is enough until it isn't.

Ball played through to winger - may be offside, if so everything that happens afterwards is void.
Winger is tacked on edge of box (might be a foul, possible penalty if inside box).
Attacking player running behind crosses ball, striker heads ball into net but could be arm involved.

You've now got 3 separate checks for linked events which happened within <5 seconds of each other.
    You've 4 possible outcomes…
    free-out for initial offside.
penalty because not-offside, offence inside box, and original goal is deemed handball by goal-scorer.
free-out for the handball (not offside, not penalty).
    goal given.

    I don't think that's a particularly outrageous/unprecedented set of events.

Wolves have drawn with Arsenal and beaten Villa in their last three games.

Liverpool are below both of those teams in the table.

I doubt very much it'll be an easy game tbh.

My point is the reaction of a fan [I am a liverpool fan] is to give examples of similar incidents for other clubs where the decision was different.

    It was 2024:)

    Time flies by:)

I'm a wolves, Man United and Villa fan this week.

This is usually when Liverpool get a good run of results in and Wolves will go for it opening them up.

It could be an entertaining game…… Wolves got a bit of confidence at home now

I may be biased but those results against Arsenal and Villa aren't much to read into. Credit to them of course but the team placed 20th in the league haven't suddenly become good. Arsenal had that little wobble against Brentford and Wolves, and Villa have been dropping points every other game since the new year. Their league form in way down, while we're up in the top 4. In a way, those performances/results sort of came from nowhere and probably caught both Arsenal and Villa off guard. One would also hope that Liverpool are well drilled on what to expect from Wolves.

All eyes on Mane. Rumours Liverpool are interested if/when Wolves go down

It's a small sample size but I watched both games and Wolves absolutely deserved those results.

Not to be taken for granted is the message I suppose!

That's fair enough as you say every fan can point out decisions that didnt go their way its part of every sport, but i dont ever recall the media, ex footballers and rival fans losing their shite like they are currently because a decision may have went Arsenals way, i am still not convinced it did because every corner has similar holds and as i pointed out two worse handballs were not even mentioned after the game.

Lol. He says like a decision going United's way doesn't create a week long inquest!

Arsenal have been strong favourites for a good while to win the PL, it is closer now though I assume they are still odds on.

As a result, there will be more focus on them in terms of any incidents as it is creates traction and people react.

If Arsenal were in Liverpool's position, there would be less noise:)

Hopefully they can see it out and get the PL win.

I thought the 2nd dive from Cunha should have been another penalty:)

The body language of Chris Kavanagh when it happened was hilarious, he had a little seizure & must have remembered that it would be completely taking the piss if he gave it, it would have been funny if he did though.

Jaysus, I wouldnt be putting much money on Arsenal at 2/5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,875 ✭✭✭✭8-10

That's the point. Some bookies have paid out already, they don't want bets on Arsenal

In terms of the race for the top 5 for a CL place, I know England would get an extra place if a non-qualifier won the CL or EL (like Spurs did last season). But if Arsenal or City win the CL this year (or Liverpool/Chelsea if they come top 5), would that give an extra CL place to the team who finishes 6th, or would it have no impact?

No impact from that. The 5 spots looks nailed on.
