I shed a few tears because he was the man that got me onto boards 15 years ago 💔 and although I never met him it felt like I knew him

I know Gonzo, I was so sad looking at date today and thinking it felt really weird not getting my monthly forecast in!

He would have enjoyed those stats for Dublin airport been the wettest ever on record and 2nd dullest!

It was a lovely spring day here in NCD.

The first grass cut of the season got underway and my husband and the kids did a great job of tidying up the garden for spring and hopefully a heatwave summer.

    Bring it on😎

I know I feel the same, I found the monthly forecast contest during Covid and it was great fun at a time when we were all cracking up stuck at home!

Very sad to hear about MT. RIP. Glad to hear it has improved at home. Found this dude and his clan on the beach the other day. Below is Volcan Arenal, got lucky with the weather staying around Arenal it usually rains non stop hence the lush rainforest. Happy Spring everyone.

Wet morning out in north Longford. Just fluck it!

Heavy rain last night. Rain this morning. Forecast more rain. Dreadful.

The frogs are happy. The last week or so the common frogs were making their way to the spawning grounds. You couldn't open the back door without seeing frogs on the march. We have an acre which is left to nature alongside the Loch. The noise from this annual orgy is unbelievable. Part of it is full of hundreds if not thousands of frogs. It's the first sign of spring we see. Unfortunately no one told the weather.

Our tiny unloved pond home to duckweed and an abundance of water lilies looked like the water was boiling during the week. Many very active froggies going a-courtin

I think Met Eireann got the weather in Kerry wrong these last 24 hours. The forecast was for torrential rain from yesterday and particularly this morning. Very unusually our hiking group cancelled today's outing based on the forecast but its dry, mild and settled here this morning, no rain at all (so far).

A planet gazing outing last night was also cancelled due to the forecast yet the bad weather never arrived. I was expecting to wake up to rain thundering down but its a normal day. Maybe they jumped the gun cancelling hikes and star gazing…… but then again that's what forecasts are for?

    RIP MT

………….anyway caught part of the rainbow after a swim at Cromane yesterday…….it was so cold/breezy after the swim I could barely hold the phone but it was a stunning rainbow. Water is absolutely freezing right now, the coldest all Winter …..despite the weather getting milder.

Not so much rain as I expected yet here in Meath.

9am running for an hour; had light rain for a short time during it.

Not exactly a tempting afternoon for out and about. Grey, breezy, threatening clouds .....but dry.

Rain visible on the various GAA coverage; venues Donegal & Kilkenny

    12⁰ Meath

can’t say it wasn’t an interesting winter, the rain was the main talking point but because it was the east and the Dublin area for a change it was big news.

The only positives is we weren’t looking at a mid latitude high for weeks on end and we can still get a very far south jet stream in winter which I thought was a thing of the past. Eastern Europe and Scandinavia had a cold winter and I thought that was also a thing of the past too.
One thing this winter has taught me is to avoid Netweather and all that SSW and MJO tripe, it’s really nothing more than a last throw of the dice for desperate coldies and just ends in disappointment every time.

I don't think there is one person who reads this forum who enjoyed this winter from a weather perspective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,332 ✭✭✭adocholiday

I don't think you'll find anyone to disagree with that statement Gonzo. The only thing I will say about it is that at least it wasn't a windy one. I know there are a few posters that enjoy a storm so maybe they won't be too happy about that, but personally that was one positive I'll mention. Only 3 named storms during the current season and none of them were particularly notable, and the mean winds overall were also low. But other than that there's nothing else to say about it. Let's hope our fortunes change for Spring and Summer.

I enjoy every winter. I just love the natural cycle of it. The bleakness can be beautiful in it's own right. The two weeks at Christmas was the best holiday weather I can remember. Bone dry and calm for 2 full weeks. I enjoyed the starry nights until recently when it got much cloudier. It wasn't as wet here as in the east but walking in heavy rain wearing full wetgear can be so peaceful and grounding. The tea/cake or soup afterwards in front of a roaring stove is so rewarding. As I said before, you need to endure a winter to fully enjoy the summer. Life is too short to wish 3 months away. The aurora was absolutely once in a lifetime spectacular.
