MotoGP 2026 Season

    The traditional current raiser - the Valancia test - takes place Tuesday 18th.

    The highly anticipated debut of WSBK Champion Toprak on #7 Pramac Yamaha will take place ,while Diego Moreira will make his debut #11 LCR Honda.

    All Factory riders and test riders are expected to run ,the only exception being the injured Marc Marquez.

    Nicola Bulega will take his place , while Alex Marquez will get his hands on a GP26 for the first time alongside Pecco and Diggia. Frankie* (Peccos bike) and Aldeguair will have GP25s.

    Yamaha are expected to run the new V4 after Yamaha confirmed the end of the inline 4 engine.

    TNT will have live coverage.

    *Breaking news, Frankie Morbidelli fractured his left hand in the start line incident, #13 VR Academy rider Vietti will ride the bike today.

    Sepang testing has begun, only test riders partipate this week apart from Yamaha ,their concessions allow all their riders to participate.

    And thats the big news as its expected to be confirmed shortly that Fabio Quartararo has signed for Honda for 27 and 28. A huge blow to Yamaha and a big win for Honda, Fabio is one of the top riders whise career has been on hold while Yamaha tried to resolve their bike issues.

    Acosta to Ducati is still just a strong rumour, Jorge Martin,the man at the centre of silly season last year is out of the Sepang test next week ,still recovering from surgery.

    So we've seen a few bikes but now news of Quatararo going to Honda next season

    Jorge Martin to replace Quartararo at Yamaha is soon to be confirmed apparently, Aprilla has already become Bezs team so no big surprise of Jorges exit, Bagnia had also been mentioned as a Yamaha rider in '27

    Less than 3 weeks to go. Cant see past Marquez obviously.

    Looking forward to seeing Moreira though.

    Countdown to Buriam this weekend and after testing its clear that Ducati and Aprilla are well ahead of KTM and Honda with Yamaha a distant fifth.

    For Aprilla ,Bez has Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez up there with him race pace wise and Jorge Martin will undoubtedly get it right.

    For Ducati the 26 bike is another step forward though Alex Marquez is sticking with tried and trusted '24' aero on his GP26 while Marc and Pecco are persisting with the 26 aero on their GP26. Diggie has been there or there abouts but its Frankie on the GP25 who has been nearer the top of the timesheets ,Fermin Aldeguair is injured and Michele Pirro will sub for him.

    KTM have struggled at Buriam before and not much os expected this weekend, Binder and Enna Bastinni struggled during testing. Honda also had testing issues with only Zarco happy by the end of testing.

    Yamaha - disaster of a test , the V4 is underpowered, Honda bound Fabio appears completely fed up while Toprak is struggled with his adaption to Moto GP.

    Negotiations between the manufacturers and Liberty have apparently put all rider announcements on hold but the strong rumours / deal is done for 2027 are:

    Ducati -Marc and Pedro Acosta

    Aprilla - Bez and Pecco

    KTM - Alex Marquez and Maverick

    Honda - Fabio and ?? (Marini and Mir are possible)

    Yamaha - Jorge and ?? (Diggie,Toprak and Miller are possible, Guevera is likely to step up to Pramac Yamaha)

    Others :

    Gresini- Fermin Aldeguair and ?? (Bulega may step yp)

    VR46 - Rossi has said he knows his riders for 2027 , the wild rumour is that Aprilla not Ducati will power the team.

    Enjoyed the first sprint race immensely, some decent battles up and down the field. Could be a great year to watch though I feel for the lads on the Yamaha bikes.

    Yamaha are nowhere. Easily the worst machines on the track currently.

    What a sprint race. I was surprised to see Marquez being made give the position back, but not dissapointed. He knew what he was doing.

    I was really surprised to see the 2 Trackhouse riders doing very well. We may be surprised by them this season.

    Brilliant battle between Acosta and future team mate Marquez, pity that it was decided by a call by the stewards but it was the right call imho.

    Fernandez has been on a roll since late last season and Aprillas believe in him is starting to come good. Ogura is coming back from an injury and was strong all race long.

    Unfortunately an Alex Marquez error took Diggia out of the battle, while Bez crashed for the third time on the day.

    Main race starts at 8am , expect Bez to be favourite and for another Aprilla to join him on the podium. Medium tyres should benefit the Ducati.

    Aprilia have been transformed. Anyone remember Redding getting the boot for calling the Aprilia a turd?

    Maybe they listened to him.

    Bringing Massimo Rivola in was a game changer , before then they couldn't run two bikes decide their collaboration with Gresini. It's been a long road , Aleix getting his first podium at Silverstone and then winning a year later.

    Aprilla also deserve credit for sticking with Raul Fernandez, he would have been out at the end of '24 in any team but Rivola believed in him year under Davide Brivios guidance has become a front runner.

    Buriam Thailand delivered some classic racing.

    Moto 3 saw Almansa winning by .0003 after a race long battle with Quilles, Casey Gorman finished 11th only 2 seconds off the podium , an excellent debut.

    Moto 2 - Two red flags,Delighted to see Davide Alonso sitting up in his hospital bed with no broken bones after a particularly nasty collision which saw Alonso being hit by another bike when Senna Ageis slowed with a technical issue. A classic battle at the end seeing Gonzalez winning by inches.

    MotoGP : Sprint , Bez.....an early error saw the door left open for Marc and an impressive Acosta on his KTM, the battle between the two was a classic, Acosta taking the lead before being pushed off by Marc , race steward Simon Crafar issuing the instruction to Marc to give the place back. Fernandez and Ogura finished 3rd and 4th.

    MotoGP : Bez made no mistakes this time and took his 3rd win in a row. Marc still suffering from his shoulder injury couldn't keep pace and was promptly passed by Fernandez and then Acosta.

    Marc found pace but an error led to him going over a high kerb which broke the wheel rim and his rear tyre deflated. (A number of publications have missed the point that the rim was destroyed leading to the tyre deflation and not a 'tyre issue'). Late pace saw Acosta passing Fernandez to get 2nd. Jorge Martin finished an impressive 4th.

    3 weeks now to Brazil.

    Thanks Infoanon. Wonder what your (any anyone's) thoughts are on 2027 changes..." Starting in 2027, MotoGP will introduce a major technical regulation overhaul focused on safety, sustainability, and closer racing. Key changes include reducing engine capacity from 1000cc to 850cc, a total ban on ride-height and holeshot devices, significantly reduced aerodynamic surfaces, and the introduction of 100% sustainable fuel.

    More specifically - what does this mean for the floundering Yamaha - they might gain some mid-season improvement but then need to prep for 2027 - do they in effect having to deal explicitly with 2 programs of work compared to the other outfits. Will V4's still be bedrock or might we see something new (Honda's V3 for example).

    The other big change is Pirelli tyres.

    Historically one team will get the changes right from Day 1 and others will be playing catch up. Changes were needed, the bikes were out growing the circuits , aerodynamics were/are getting ridiculous and the ride height devices are a safety concern.

    Riders will be key which is perhaps why the 2027 contracts are being finalised now (if not yet confirmed). I don't think you can look at each team without looking at the expected rider line up.

    Ducati look very strong with Marquez, Acosta and Aldeguair and probably Alonso. Thats probably the strongest possible single bike line up for outright speed and the skill to ride around problems. And then there is GiGi - Ducati should be leading the way in '27.

    Honda have Fabio Quartararo, Moreira and noted development riders in Zarco ,Marini and Aleix. Another strong line up but with the added advantage of development skills.Fabio and Honda could dominate in '27.

    Aprilla have now proven development rider Bez ,Fernandez is starting to show potential but is Pecco the rider to develop a bike and ride around problems? The smallest of the teams, '27 will be a reset and they may struggle initially.

    KTM - it looks like they are putting their faith in Vinales with Alex Marquez, Few would pick Vinales to lead a team, notorious for struggling with bikes that are not to his liking , KTM also have financial constraints which will have impacted the development of the '27 bike.

    That leaves Yamaha, the V4 lacks power ,Martin will probably replace Fabio but is he the rider to develop a bike?,Fast and he did show Pecco how to set up the GP24, Toprak will have Pirelli knowledge ,Miller is known for developing a bike but the fundamentals haven't changed, Yamaha are spending a lot of money but they are riding two horses ,if Fabio is gone ,maybe its time to switch to '27 development.

    Rossi ,Marquez, Lorenzo,Bagnia and now Bez ! The exclusive club of motogp riders who have won 4 races in a row.

    The Brazilian motogp race provided some great racing , despite issues with the track - a sinkhole appearing on Saturday! And a quickly deteriorating track on Sunday.

    Saturdays Sprint was a combative wheel to wheel affair between Marc Marquez and out of a job (apparently) Fabio DiGiantonio ,one error costing Diggia victory, in 3rd was Jorge Martin, an outstanding ride ,finishing ahead of Bez.

    Jorge was very emotional afterwards revealing that his girlfriend had to feed him as recently as a few weeks ago as he recovered from his latest injuries.

    Later Jorge Martin praised Marc Marquez for providing him with advice on recovery when he (Jorge) was on the verge of retiring.

    Sundays main race saw Bez dominant again for the 4th race in a row,able to control the gap to 2nd, 2nd being Jorge Martin with a sublime move to pass Diggia and Marc Marquez. This time Diggia made no errors and becomes one of the few to have beaten Marc on equal machinery, spectacular to watch as thet banged farinhs .Ai Ogura was fifth on his Aprilla ,if only he could get his starts right, like Thailand, Oguras pace is the same if not faster than the leaders.

    Bez and Martin are now 1st and 2nd in the Championship. As Rivola said afterwards, he is going to have some headaches shortly. There was some controversy about the race distance being shortened but its unlikely to have changed the podium.

    Previous Championship leader Pedro Acosta had ,along with KTM ,an horrendous weekend with the bike, Honda were a little off the pace ,while Yamaha showed speed at times, Fabio doing wonders in qualifying ,and on Friday when the track was damp ,Toprak was 3rd quickest.

    COTA this weekend, another Bez victory, or is Jorge set to get his first win since winning the World Championship in 2004, or will the King of COTA ,Marc Marquez, regain his crown. The heat treated tyres will not be used in COTA which may affect the Aprillas.

    A mention for Fermin Aldeguair, back from breaking his leg 6 weeks ago, Fermin was expected to do a few laps on Friday and leave it at that, Fermin completed across the weekend showing great pace , maybe the Gresini bikes in Brazilian colours gave him some extra encouragement.

    Moto 3 and 2 were all about Aspar, Quilles winning with Moreilles 2nd in Moto 2 and Holgado winning in Moto 2.

    Casey O'Gorman finished an excellent 9th after another strong performance.

    Thanks Infoanon for that summary. Watch the highlights on Quest TV and agree, it was great racing. Are the ducatis of Marquis and diGiantonio identical? Was good to see them battle, almost the best part of the race ( other than Martin getting past both!).

    There are 4 factory spec Ducatis for Marc,Bagnia, Diggia and Alex.

    Thats in theory as within that there are known variations with eg Alex preferring an earlier aero package. Diggia is directly contracted to Ducati, Alex is not.

    Another aspect is VR46 have more or less confirmed that they are staying with Ducati ,rumours abound that Gresini is being offered $$ to move (back) to Honda.

    Another brilliant weekend of racing across all classes ,Jorge Martin the star of the weekend, with Bez joining the even more elite group of 5 victories in a row and ,against all the odds, leading the most consecutive laps in the modern era.

    A special mention for Casey O'Gorman, a bad get away and ultimately an high side didn't do justice to a second place on the starting grid and some fabulous racing.

    Sprint:

    If you are the only rider on the grid to pick a medium rear while everyone has a soft ,then as a rule of thumb, you have made a mistake.

    Jorge Martin made a deal with Aprilla , if I get this wrong I will forever more follow your advice...Jorges pass on Pecco was fine and precise ,Jorges crash on the slow down lap was unfortunate, but Jorge is clearly now a contender for the World Championship.

    Bez and Marc crashing made little difference to the overall result, Diggia been taken out by Marc was unfortunate.

    Sunday

    Normal service resumed !,despite a 2 place penalty ,Bez was in the lead from fourth by the first lap, Acosta going wide, lucky not to be out on the spot after colliding with Bez as he returned to the track.

    Bez was never challenged again but behind was some close on the limit racing, Ai Ogura cut through the field on his way to a certain podium before an electronics malfunction. Marc ,who had a long lap penalty after taking out Diggia in the Sprint ,had a great battle with Bastinnea , yes the Beast was back ! (3rd in the Sprint) ,Pecco also involved in this titanic battle.

    Overall another great week for Aprilla, Ducati on the backfoot and Acosta having a bit of support from the Beast in the KTM ranks.

    Honda - another crash for Mir....,Yamaha stuck at the back of the grid.

    4 weeks to Jerez (which may already be sold out).

    Moto 2, Agies to the fore ,two nasty accidents but thankfully no serious injuries*

    Moto 3 - a 4 way battle to the end (including the last corner !)

    MotoGPs 'Concorde' agreement is nearing completion so expect some rider announcements shortly.

    *Since confirmed that Angel Piqueras (#36) has suffered a broken left femur.
