    Another super goal by Sesko.

    What a header that was.

Thought we were poor today. Bit of let off. Sending off was harsh although was penalty

While the performance might have been meh and lethargic how often have United been meh and lethargic over the last God knows how long but still couldn't pick up a win.

Martinez's ball playing ability from CB is missed massively. They need to look at CB in the summer imo. Can't be hoping for him to remain fit all season and then you've got De Ligt on the missing list, Yoro who can be Yoro.

A LB as well because Shaw is Shaw and Dorgu is still inexperienced and Lecce were trying to turn him into a winger. He's very inexperienced to be relying on him as your first choice LB.

Harry Wilson on the score sheet again today. 9 goals and 6 assists in the league for him this season. Would he do a job as a free for squad depth given the lack of depth we already have and then you have European football next season.

Or is he just too similar to Mbeumo and Amad as a left footed RW. He can play across the pitch but not sure how effective he is on the left at possibly beating his man and getting crosses in.

Get him in, we need the options with European football pretty much on the way at this stage.

We win these 3 games and nobody will stop us getting third imho.

My gut feeling is we’ll get a very decent 7 points drawing v Newcastle.

No doubt about it now, we’re on with a great chance now of CL

Martinez is always a big loss. His quick ball progression to midfield is one of the best in the league.

Id keep Harry on a lower wage structure but get in a good rcb that can do the same as Martinez on the ball but obviously be good in a back 2.

Yoro and Heaven still very young. Hopefully with more cup and European comps they'd be bedded in more. Tough with 1 game a week

Chelsea have very difficult fixtures and Villa have lost form.

So we've a very good chance of CL. We only have to remain ahead of one of them.

We do have to play Villa, Chelsea and Pool though.

I can see Liverpool coming 3rd now.

    I'd be delighted with 5th.

Shaw went off ill according to Carrick

Said he hopes Maguire will be ok for Wednesday as well.

We need to confront the fact that we may never lose a game again.

he neither has the pace or the physicality or the finishing to be a premier league player.

Villa play Chelsea next and Liverpool have Wolves away twice (league and fa cup) then CL game in 7 days.

A lot riding on our game v Newcastle!

I would take 4 points from next 2 games now if honest.

and if your looking at form, we must be sitting near top, and Newcastle at the bottom. It’s not unrealistic to think we could pick up maximum points in that game.

Chelsea have a seriously mad run of games, villa, Newcastle, everton, City a couple against PSG, us, Brighton, forest and pool

Bournemouth away will likely be our trickiest game before the internationals.

Second behind City on goal difference over the last 6 games. Newcastle sitting at 19th after Spurs loss today keeps them 20th. Bournemouth sitting in 4th currently. Will drop a place after this game finishes.

If Liverpool weren't in the cup and CL I think they'd nick 3rd off us based off their run in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,721 ✭✭✭kerplun k

I mean, i should be happy to see Chelsea lose that game… but some part of me wanted to see Arsenal drop points. Another 2 goals from corners, and zero joy watching them. It’s just horrible football.

Dreadful start and a horrible first half, but grit and determination to bring it back, helped by a pen and red of course.

I did say yesterday though that this would be a test of character though, and it certainly was.

In a great spot now, 3rd place. Villa collapsing, 3 clear of Liverpool, 6 clear of Chelsea and 8 ahead of Brentford.

I'm very confident now of CL and the only way we'd miss out on at least Europa is if we bring Amorim back...

When did Arsenal and Wolves get a game played ahead? 29 Vs everyone else on 28

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,754 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

If Villa beat Chelsea and we beat Newcastle, then we're 9 points ahead of Chelsea.

You'd assume CL is in the bag then.

    It's a big "if" though.

Really we only need to match Chelsea's results for 6 or 7 games and we have it.

Hoping Newcastle will also have an eye on the FA cup game

Was brought forward from the league cup final weekend. City due to play Palace that weekend and couldn't be brought forward to same date as Palace had a european fixture.

Everyone will be back on the same after the league Cup final weekend.

I disagree, he's not what we need but he'd do well in lower teams. He never really got a run of games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,671 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

He's a good squad option to have. Provides something different but we'll need an actual second choice number 9 for next season. I'd still like Zirkzee sold if we can get decent money to reinvest into the squad but if he's still here come September I think he'll be a decent squad player especially with European football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭scottser

I think Zirkzee has checked out already knowing that he'll be sold in the next window.

Well now, that ended up being a grand day out. Barry and Big Ben are MASSIVE fan favourites, only Bruno got louder cheers when they came out for the warm up and when the team was read out.

Cunha is a fuckin war horse, he does so much work off the ball and is constantly moving. First half everyone looked completely out of sorts, mistimed passes, poor touches, giving out to eachother etc. Palace are absolute muck and against a better unit today we'd have been in bother in H1.

Its concerning that its taking us a full 45 to get into a rhythm and simply put, the better teams in the league will punish us if that continues.

The weekends results couldn't have gone better for us and we've 2 huge games in the next week, if we can pick up 4 out of the 7 we'll get one of the top 4 spots.

Thought we struggled against their system today. They don't suit us stylistically and I think that showed for large parts.

Big win though and thought a few players played well. Mainoo had a good second half and Bruno, who drove me mad in parts, was again in all likelihood our best player. Maguire was good too and Cunha worked very hard. Some header from Sesko. Think he'll probably be on the bench vs Newcastle though.

One concern I have though is we look a little bit leggy. Whatever your opinion was on Amorim, we looked very fit. Eye can be deceiving but it just looked like we were tired at times.

Newcastle whilst in poor form will be a tough game. If we can get 3 points there then I think we can be pretty confident of getting a Champ League place.
