NATO/US/Europe encroachment on Russia?!?!? WTF!! I didn't realize NATO, the US or Europe had invaded Russia. When did this happen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭wildgreen

I don't know what your mother tongue is but this may help you:

Encroachment carries the sense of something slowly creeping into something else's space.

LoL. Scotland is one of history's biggest colonial powers. He also loves colonialism as long as it isn't being done by people who speak English.

He is not even close to a reliable source for anything.

Is this the same clown who thinks one of Europe's biggest problems is "Russophobia hysteria" and equates "peace" in Ukraine with the surrender of that nation?

    August 19, 2025 - Craig Murray

I should like to believe that peace in Ukraine might lead to a reduction in Russophobic hysteria across Europe. But the truth is, that Cold War-style scaremongering is really all these failing European leaders have with which to terrify and control their disgruntled and impoverished populace at present.

Why should we listen to tankie like this about anything?

All on your say so? Right! Still nothing to say about the kidnapping of Maduro and the takeover of Venezuela's economy?

When are the free and fair elections due?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭wildgreen

President Trump hasn't decided yet as to when he will allow elections. The credit for the huge upsurge in the economy arising from President Trump's intervention will probably benefit the current incumbent so it is a catch-22 as Donald wants the elections to be a wonderful celebration of his success in creating a vibrant economy - but don't ask me, listen to the man himself!

" … going to be the economy with the best numbers in South America, growth even exceeding those immigration dead economies in Europe. I may even build a golf course and hotel there - they have wonderful real estate, links courses, coastlines. Venezuela is going to be the new Taiwan even better than Taiwan, much better. Corporate investors are pleading with me - they want some of the action - the profits to be made are astronomical - even Elon is tring to weasel his way back in with me. I told you it would be great, and it is even better than that, much better than that, there were awful people there but now our people are there and it is going to be great, really great, even better than that, much better!"

Seizing oil tankers costs US millions

    https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/seized-oil-tankers-cost-us-mlns--casting-doubt-on-trump-s-ga

The US government has spent tens of millions to maintain seized oil tankers, raising questions about President Donald Trump’s claims that the operations would bring financial gains.

    US Embassy is partially re-opened.

The choice to run it seems sensible. A career diplomat (Yes, the US actually has a few) named Laura Dogu, was appointed as ambassador to Honduras by Obama from deputy ambassador in Mexico, and ambassador to Nicaragua by Biden. Has just come out of an assignment in the Pentagon as a foreign policy advisor to Dan Caine.

I thought Trump said he was running the govt, why do they need an ambassador?

Victory for Venezuela and in Florida also.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cd707v24ex9o

Venezuela has beaten Team USA to claim the World Baseball Classic (WBC) for the first time in a thrilling final.

The 3-2 result in Miami on Tuesday stunned the star-studded US team, who had hoped to emerge triumphant after losing the final in 2023.

"Nobody believed in Venezuela but now we win the championship today," Eugenio Suárez, Venezuela's third baseman, said.

"This is a celebration for all the Venezuelan country," he added.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/us-to-allow-russian-oil-tanker-to-reach-cuba-new-york-times-reports/ar-AA1ZFYUn

March 29 (Reuters) - The United States is allowing a Russian tanker full of crude oil to reach Cuba, in an easing of the de facto oil blockade that Washington has imposed on Cuba, the  New York Times reported on Sunday, citing a U.S. official briefed on the matter.

Good overview here of how the US is undermining Venezuela and of Delcy Rodriguez's loyalty to her country's independence from US tyranny.

    https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2026/03/the-weight-on-delcy-rodriguez/

Rodríguez is therefore reduced to negotiating with the occupiers over how much of Venezuela’s own money she is allowed to spend on her own people. She is obliged to host a series of sickening visits from smirking Trump henchmen, openly humiliating and raping Venezuela. The claims that Rodríguez wants this, still more that she engineered this, are nuts.

You never have anything to say on content. Maybe you know people hoping to benefit from the theft of Venezuelan resources?

Trump imposed a physical naval blockade on Venezuelan oil exports. Tankers carrying Venezuelan oil to buyers not approved by the US were physically seized by the US Navy. The US thus, by military force, imposed control over Venezuelan crude sales.

Revenues were initially routed to a US-controlled account in Qatar, later shifted to US Treasury accounts. Disbursements to the Rodríguez government are discretionary and ad hoc — for example, only $300 million of the first $500 million was released, with US approval required for its spending. The mechanism operates under executive emergency powers in the USA but under no Venezuelan authority. This is not with Delcy Rodríguez’s agreement.

It is totally illegal in every possible way. The naval blockade, the seizure of tankers, the stealing of oil revenue. All of this is absolutely against international law. Precisely what “Emergency” is justifying Trump’s powers, even in US domestic law, I have no idea.

The United States has no treaty agreement with Venezuela or international mandate permitting it to seize Venezuela’s oil and sell it. It is simple theft.

By controlling the tankers, Washington seized control of Venezuela’s only significant source of foreign revenue and crippled the government of Delcy Rodríguez. Oil accounts for over 70% of Venezuelan government revenue.

Oil cargoes approved by the United States are now sold on the international market, but the proceeds are not paid to Caracas. They are, incredibly, paid to the United States Treasury. The Trump regime dispenses ad hoc payments back to the Venezuelan government — whatever portion it chooses, whenever it chooses — to allow basic state functions to continue. It is a system entirely governed by the whims of Donald Trump, controlling another sovereign state.

And his excuse for Venezuela being a shithole governed by a despotic regime for the decades before Trump did this are what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭wildgreen

I will keep to the facts. The US first imposed sanctions in 2005. The EU and UK also imposed sanctions.

These are designed to impoverish countries economically to make the "people" rise up and revolt. They can be supplemented by arming any disgruntled or ethnic groups to try to create civil strife. Failing that, you can use any excuse you want and blow the place back to the stone ages to make it a failed state. The playbook is publicly available.

    https://globalsanctions.com/region/venezuela/

The US first imposed Venezuela sanctions in 2005 in response to Venezuela’s absence of cooperation with US anti-drug and counter-terrorism efforts. Since then, the US has made annual determinations that Venezuela has failed to adhere to its commitments under international narcotics and anti-terrorism agreements.

In 2015, the Obama administration issued EO 13692, which targets (for asset blocking and visa restrictions) people and entities involved in human rights abuses and corruption. Government figures including President Nicolás Maduro were sanctioned in 2017. The US issued further EOs in 2018 and 2019, which prohibited access to US financial markets and blocked the property and interests of the Maduro government in the United States and within the control of US persons. The US has issued various Venezuela-related licences and revoked licences enabling oil business in Venezuela in March 2025. Since April 2025, any country that imports Venezuelan oil may be subject to a 25% tariff on its exports to the US.
