An interesting nights results, none of them really do anything for me though -

Italy, he has confirmed he is going to Vienna! Very 80s cruiseship music but has a certain charm I suppose.

Norway, thank God that Rybak lost but the winner is a bit screechy for me.

Germany is a like a fused, re-heated Firefighter and Liar from 2024. It is ok but too generic and I can't see it doing well.

Finland, decent but I don't get the hype.

    Serbia, just no.

Australia later today, rumours it is Delta Goodrum.

I hate to say it but this year is abysmal so far.

I haven't been following any NFs (I have been following Sanremo but that's not an NF), but I'm not surprised that it's looking like a poor crop of songs this year. Not only are some countries not going, in those countries that are competing, it's likely artists aren't interesting in putting themselves forward for it. And can you blame them? The contest "brand" is turning toxic, and the EBU has decided to turn a blind eye to vote-rigging, so it's not a fair field of play.

I'm glad I was wrong about Ditonellapiaga in the end, she finished 3rd.

I'm not surprised Sal Da Vinci won, there were a lot of articles online about how it was a very nostalgia-filled Sanremo this year, with performances by and tributes to performers of the past, and it was a bit of a love letter from Carlo Conti (host and artistic director) to a more "traditional" Italy. So it was no shock that a song about how much a man loves his wife, and which could have been written 50 years ago, took the win. Plus Neapolitan voters are known to get behind a local contestant and vote for them in their droves. It was also clear Sal had big support inside the theatre.

While I think it's a little cheesy, I do like it. It's a song free of cynicism and Sal sells it really well. Not sure how it will go at Eurovision though, it's very dated compared to what Italy has sent this decade so far, but people might get swept up in the optimism and cheerfulness of the song. I think it'll finish top 10, but the top 5 would be a step too far.

Delighted Ditonellapiaga and Sayf reached the top 5 and finished 3rd and 2nd. Really felt Sal Da Vinci would win - not my choice at all but can see the appeal to the domestic audience. Can't see it appealing to a European audience but could be wrong. Haven't listened in any detail to the other winners last night apart from Finland. Don't get the hype around it to be honest and the fiddle solos sound very dated to me.

    It's Delta Goodrem for Australia!

It's perfectly pleasant, but I imagine televote support for this will be pretty limited. Juries will likely get behind it though, and at least see them into the final.

In other news, the UK song will be revealed tomorrow.

Edit: I was mistaken, it's Friday morning at 8am instead.

Delta’s song could do with a bit more…y’know…

Oh god - our song (the UK) is either going to be absolutely majestic, or absolutely atrocious…no middle ground.

Friday is going to be a VERY interesting day indeed (and not just because Wales are going to destroy Ireland in the rugby 😁😁😁😁).

    Romania, you are in me!!

Obvious comparisons abound with Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation…no bad thing. 🙂

In terms of songs with 'Eins, Zwei' in the title, Look Mum No Computer has already come second…

    I love that German shít!

I like it : has great singalong potential for the arena audience in the manner of Europapa and Tutta L'Italia.

Yep, it's ideal for ESC for sure.

Way better than the last two efforts from the UK.

Mind you, grok is saying this is a parody version…?

If this is the ‘genuine’ official version, it’s actually…not too bad.

No televotes expected however for modelling his hairstyle on Howard Jones.

    Take a deep breath, boardsies…

    Deep breath…

All I could think of was when is he going to take off his soft leather jacket? Like an accountant going to the pub at lunchtime for Happy Hour.

    I judge that harshly!

Hate that the title of the song is my first name and is repeated so often.

People have been saying for ages now that the BBC should take a risk with its Eurovision effort. They've done that now, so at least it'll silence those voices. And it will stand out, and it's better to have 50% of people say they hate it and 50% say they love it, then have 100% of people say "meh."

The music, the concept are all fine, but the lyrics are dreadful. I don't know if he also wrote the lyrics, but if he did, I wish he'd brought in someone else.

I think it'll all come down to staging. Usually he performs at his equipment, but if he's going to be stood there twiddling fake knobs Gabry Ponte-style, then I'm afraid he could be in trouble.

He should actually sing some more of the song in German - throw in a few extra lines on the night (which is allowed by the rules).

Good video, song ok but a bit too repetitive for my liking.

The lyrics don't sound entirely like his previous work, and I expect he had some "help" with that. It's actually a little "political" with references to Euros etc., a little anti-Brexit.

In its pure form, fascism is the sum total of all irrational reactions of the average human character.

    ― Wilhelm Reich

I was about to say that sound exactly like his previous work, they all have some ennui in them, but never really say that much, almost filler lyrics.https://genius.com/Look-mum-no-computer-eins-zwei-drei-lyrics

It wouldn't be him if he got help with the lyrics.

    France

Think the juries will lap it up, particuarly if she can pull off the vocals live. Not quite sure how televoters will respond.

Thought I was listening to Rosalia's Berghain at the start. Quite similar in style, good but not that original imo. JJ winning last year might come against it.

    San Marino

San Marino are sending Senhit for the third time. Boy George even has a couple of lines in the song, but doesn't appear here on stage. This is staying in the SF's I think.

I’ve always looked forward to this point in the year when the ESC buildup kicks off in earnest. I’d even thought about watching some if it on the BBC this year considering RTE are not taking part. At this point however I’m just going to abstain from the entire thing this year. I’ll really miss the buildup and the semi’s and the final itself. After the last week however, any competition that still feels it’s ok to include a xenophobic war mongering nation at the expense of conscientious countries doesn’t deserve my time. Prior to this week there was some leeway for argument but no longer. Israel are destroying Eurovision, just like everything else they do and the EBU are letting it happen.

Deciding to watch is a personal decision for all of us and I’m not condemning anyone who does watch this year. For me the latest round of aggression has tipped the scales.

I think if I ever met Senhit, I'd paraphrase Mrs Merton: "So Senhit, what attracts you to washed-up pop stars who'd do anything for a cheque and their name back in the papers?"

I haven't heard the song, but from what I've seen across various fan fora, it isn't good. As you said, George didn't even bother to turn up. It does make me wonder though, if he'll turn up at Eurovision or if he'll just appear on screen again. The EBU rules say that only prerecorded background vocals are permitted, so a featured artist only appearing in a prerecorded segment would be a rule breach, no? Perhaps he'll be replaced for Vienna with a live vocalist.

Considering his conviction for assault and false imprisonment, and his vocal support for Israel, I don't think his presence at the contest (if he turns up) is a good thing for Eurovision.

No surprise in Sweden tonight, the favourite won both jury and televote

Definitely my second favourite so far behind Finland, this should get Sweden yet another top 5 finish.

That, and the fact that George’s voice is shot to pieces.

The Sweden song is really good. Loving it, along with France.
