Speaking of UK right wing media I've just seen that the Alex Springer group based in Germany is part of a bid to buy the Telegraph newspaper.

As a group that also own Politico they tend to be critical of but ultimately pro European unity, so it will be interesting to see how the traditionally euroskeptic Telegraph messaging will change if the sale goes through later in the year.

If it is currently making money then you'd assume they won't do much to rock the boat

Axel Springer buying it would be vastly preferable to some Middle East government, or the Daily Mail; the only other serious bidders so far. I've actually been surprised that Mediahuis weren't interested as they have bought lots of other Telegraphs! (Belfast Telegraph, De Telegraf in the Netherlands)

That said, editorial lines rarely change hard. Trinity Mirror, an ostensibly left wing media group, bought the Express and its still absolutely insanely anti Europe, pro Tory etc etc.

Murdoch buying the then extremely socialist Sun is probably the only case of a hard change I can think of. Bought off the then Mirror owner actually.

I've seen a lot contradictory news stories about Iceland holding an EU referendum, the latest from Reuters in the last 24hrs suggests it will go ahead next September.

As well as the unease caused by the Trump's Greenland talk there is also a feeling that joining the EU now that the UK won't be at the negotiating table will give them the most favorable advantage on fishing rights.

Another interesting aspect is that already 40% of Icelandic businesses already invoice in Euros and the feeling is strong that full single market membership will create a more level playing field for Icelandic consumers.

I rewatched some brexit callers to James O Briens show on LBC. Holy Christ it’s no wonder they voted to leave. Some of the fairytales people were told or in someways came up with themselves is equal parts shocking and impressive.

One guy complained about the British car market and how they’d never sold cars in the single market.

People will always be lied to. They're supposed to question what they're told rather than lapping it up because it sounds nice. I still have my copy of The Economist with its Brexit special. It came out in 2015 and it debunked every single Brexiter argument. Spending £5 on a magazine made me better informed than most of the population as far as I can tell.
