    7kW System/Array?

    14 panels @ 500w each?

    What panels are they?

I'm hearing bad reports of the 500w panels from talking to installers.

I've 14 520w (longi) on my garage, they are big, but no issues with them

Little bit more unhandy and they can't easily be unloaded with a pallet truck on a tail lift.

Was no issue for us though, have pallet forks for the tractor.

Thanks. I’ve one installed telling me they ok and another saying they are not great. Size wise mainly as they can reduce to a smaller 475w panel and maybe get more.

    Maybe I’m ill informed.

I cant see how they can be any different to "standard panels" the only reason they are more powerful, is that they are bigger.
Same width as the 400-450w panels but about 300mm longer. May be a bit more unhandy because of the length but suited me as I was only ever fitting one row on the garage.

    Always open to more information/experience.

Actually looking at replacing the 365w ones on my dads roof with 540w ones, Might have to extend the rail a little bit but do have plenty of room

    Hi all,

Gathering up quotes at the moment and doing my research on getting solar.

I am decided that I would need a 16 panel system with a 10kwh battery. So i have been ringing around getting quotes for that spec. The best price I've got is 7900 with a solis inverter and dyness battery. I think that's good value, no eddi needed and BER and changeover switch included.

Certain companies that are selling same brand inverters and batteries claim they are much easier to use the app and if theres an issue etc one points the finger at the other. Is this such a big deal? I personally dont think it justifies 3k or more in the difference that some companies are quoting.

Looking for advice in whether same brand is crucial, I know this may also lock me into a brand.

    Thanks all.

I've 9 x 550w (Renesola) and no issues either. Obviously larger, heavier and more powerful but if your inverter supports them, then shouldn't be a problem.

    Sigenergy by chance.

That story has come up recently.

It's definitely not worth 3000 as that would extend your payback by 3 years

You mind sending me a PM of that provider? Looking for something similar.
The only slight concern i have is with the dyness batteries where a few have started to rust outside according to the irish solar facebook group - but i think these are getting replaced under warranty anyway.

Could you PM me the supplier as well if that is allowed...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭randomcorkman

PM for me too if possible, please. I'm not seeing any quotes as good as that.

Hi folks, hoping ye can help advise someone making their first forray into the world of domestic solar systems. We're nearing the completion of purchase of a new house, Ber A2, comes with 4 panels and an inverter already fitted, also a heat pump system that we have no experience of. Family member suggested we get some more panels which they'll pay for, so I got on to the contractor doing the systems to get a quote to upgrade. Below is what they came back with, so I'm wondering if this seems like a reasonable price? There's only the 2 of us, no ev and we wouldn't typically be big consumers, so we were thinking of getting this upgrade, living with it for a year, and at that point assess whether or not it might be worth adding a battery.

7 x 440w Amerisolar panels in addition to the original 4

    Inverter upgrade to Solis 5.0kW

    Roof mounts

    Alterations to existing wiring

    Fully installed & commissioned

€4750 (discounted based on return of existing new inverter)

Seems like a very competitive quote, I'm seeking a similar spec. Could you please PM supplier name to me also?

    Hi all,

Got a few quotes but this seems to be the best comments appreciated:

    1 x 5kw Anker Solix Hybrid Inverter

    12 x 530w Bluesun Solar PV Panels (6.36kwp)

1 x Eddie Hot water Diverter

    2 x Anker Battery Supply & Install (5Kw)

Battery is expandable if I want at a later stage

    Total after Grant €9,200.00

Was using about 5000 x units per annum but this has increased due to EV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,105 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Ignore your usage. You can sell back an excess

Personally I don’t see a benefit I a hot water diverteR, they don’t last very long., just heat water of peak and sell your excess

    The truth doesn't lie.

Why don't they last too long? I have one 5 years and no issues.

If you keep looking back you'll never see what's in front of you

Not last long, the eddi is quite reliable.

We have had an iboost die on us though.

But it's generally a waste of money, better to export and use the oil/gas to heat the hot water

I suppose it depends on your situation, mine is still worth it and still working fine. I never heard of them giving trouble that would turn me off them if you needed/wanted one.

If you have it you might as well use it.

But is it worth it for anyone now? No, not now that we have a feed in tariff.

    Hi all ,

Research done and about to press the button on this quote. Any thoughts

    20 / 460w Jinko Tiger - incl

    Solis Hybrid -€7600

    10KW Dyness - €1950

    Manual Change Over -€950

    Optimisers (€50 per unit)

    TOTAL

    10,500*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 798 ✭✭✭bunderoon

Optimisers - Have you chimneys or trees that will cause shadows?

It's crazy the cost of a changeover switch - 950e.

Check out the thread below for recommendations of installers to use and get at least 3 quotes before pulling the trigger. I had my guys out yesterday to sort a small issue after nearly 7 years of use. No problem too small for them. still highly recommended, and no charge either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭givecredit

Any thoughts on this? Looking at previous comments, maybe I shouldn't be looking at Eddi?

    16 x TCL Solar 445 Watt Panels (HSM-BD54-DA445)

    1 x RHI-5K-48ES-5G (SOLIS)

    2 x BX51100 (Dyness)

    1 x EDDI-16A1P02H

    €11,236.00 including grant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 517 ✭✭✭StonedRaider

Taking the piss. That should be around €9000 including grant. Keep shopping

Edit: there's installer offering the newer 500w panels. I would get them if roof space is limited

My quote for a 3.64kw system

8 x J455W Jinko panes (KJM455N-48HL4M-DB) South Facing (Compass 195 degrees South front facing)

    1 x 4kw inverter (Huawei SUN2000-4KTL-L-1

    BER

    Cost €5,672 after grant

Based in Kilkenny//Carlow area (recommendations welcome). I have a Semi-D Dormer Bungalow, I can only fit 8 on front of my south facing house. Average annual electricity unit usage is about 4,500pa.

Back roof is North facing (compass says 25 degrees North East) and thus has an integrated extension (built with original house) east/west facing (249NW and 131SE) which have a Velux window either side so not a huge amount of roof and also have neighbours on one side attached (SE side).

I have been advised that there is no point in adding more panels on the back of my house. I am conflicted over this as reading here earlier posts seem to suggest it may be worth it. I have tried to use the website in earlier posts, but I simply do not have a clue about roof pitches or anything technical despite desperately trying.

I have also been advised that there is no benefit in fitting a battery or hot water diverter. They said fitting a timer to my immersion to benefit from the solar electricity to heating my hot water is better option.

I simply cannot understand roof pitches or anything technical and I would really appreciate some thoughts on all this. Photo for reference.
