I've never had to pay for seat selection in Aer Lingus business, and this includes 'regular' business without flexibility. It sounds like sharp practice if they're charging you as part of an upgrade.

Just got an email rejecting flights I tried to book on the credit card reward saying there was an error in the submission, pretty sure there wasn't so have resubmitted, if it happens again is there a number to call?

Aer lingus do not charge for seat choice in business but most other airlines do unless you have medium or high tier status with them

When do avios expire? I thought they only lapsed if you weren't earning them or spending them? Or am I wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,903 ✭✭✭thebiglad

As long as you move the balance they won't expire - make an e-store purchase or move back and forth with British Airways every couple of years.

They will devalue though as the cost of Avios for flights will increase.

As a platinum aer club member and traveling on a BA ticket can I access the BA lounges in LHR?. I am not seeing the answer.

Only if you’re flying trans-Atlantic - according to the BA Lounge Access page

If flying on EI/AA/BA to/from the US/Canada you have access to lounges based on Platinum or higher

If you hold Platinum or higher and are flying on a ticket which includes a EI operated flight from DUB/SNN/ORK to LHR with onwards from LHR on BA to any destination you also have access at LHR BA lounges

These would be BA Galleries branded lounges

HI... can I check if this is for the 2 free Europe flights on Aer credit card ? I managed to get two free flights sorted but it states two carry on bags only. I'd much prefer to check them in.

It would probably suit aer lingus for you to check them in

folks whats the best number to call if you have an issue booking flights on the credit card portal, i have tried twice now and i get the message:

We are unable to process this request as the flight details you have provided are not valid.

Check our current flight schedule, to ensure

the flight number (if entered) matches the date and route you have selected. We have now restored the benefits to your account, and you can now submit a new request through the online portal.

I have double checked and i am entering valid flight numbers and dates.

    Thanks

You have to re-book if your reward flights don't get accepted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭BlondeBomb

Looks like it. What app is that? Any indication of dates it’s valid?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,123 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

yes i get that but the reason they are saying they aren't accepted is

flight details you have provided are not valid

which is incorrect, i have double checked and have tried 3 times with the same response.

If I book a ticket through AA and fly with AA how do I claim the tier credits for AL? I was googling and saw that through the AA app you can add your AL number? Is that the case?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,353 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Not sure about the app, but you can definitely add your Aerclub number on the booking on the website. Presume you can do it at check-in desk at the airport as well. I just tried it for the first time last week so not sure how smooth the process is yet. (Apparently it takes a few weeks to get the credits)

Add via website, wait an hour, come back and it might let you select better seats…

they say only for transatlantic in t&c but I've done it multiple times (as concierge) for short haul. Just go to the entry desk and ask.

Heading to the US in May with the missis,The whole holiday flights road trip cruise etc is booked via a travel agent. Flying DUB ORD BNA then MSY CLT MIA with AA. MIA LHR DUB is with BA can i claim the points for those flights even though i did not book directly with the airline?

Also with the AER CC do they notify you when the new year starts for the two free flights? Planning on paying for the holiday on the card which would get me over the €5k spend in order to avail of the free flights.

And one last question the travel insurance that comes with the CC how does it compare to the likes of Multitrip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,874 ✭✭✭pureza

Yes you can but claim them on British airways via the BA club

You can transfer the avios back to Aerlingus then

You will get far more avios points via BA for an itinerary like that

Put your aerclub numbers in to the DUB ORD flight

Put your BA number into the BA and AA flights

You will need your travel agent to give you the individual pnr numbers for the AA flights and the BA flights

Tell them what you are doing

You may have to call American directly, giving them your details to get the specific pnr or indeed just ask the AA agent to add your new BA number once you’ve joined the BA club

Ditto call BA to add the frequent flyer numbers to their flights

Both AA and BA have local Dublin 01 numbers you can use to call them,so no cost

Your AA and BA flights will then appear on your BA app if you log in

Regarding travel insurance, they’re all pretty much the same

If you have VHI or laya or one of them, you’ll probably be covered by them first if you need medical assistance abroad

Give them a call to confirm what you are covered for

Your travel insurance picks up the short fall usually but again check this
