Anyone watch that programme Swindlers Wednesday ?? …. about this person who conned people in Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Texas, etc …… even saying she had cancer to promote her business Bee Sensations in Ireland …… she ended up committing suicide …… I remember the case at the time ….. but was not aware of the extent of her deception ……

How could anyone do something like this ?? …. and what was it all for ?? …. she did not end in a happy place …..

Haven't seen the Swindlers doc but familiar with case from news coverage of it around the time their bodies were discovered . Your one is the same type of sociopathic confidence trickster as the woman in the "Bad Nanny" documentary (I've said it before, who signed off that terrible title?)

Claiming to have cancer seems to be a common ploy with chancers like this, ie DJ Carey.

Was repacking supermarket honey as blah blah blah artisan stuff and winning awards.

The honey was tested but all that could say was that it was from south of Ireland.

At least that didnt harm people although I doubt it was done in sterile manner.

Unlike the people she swindled and partner who got caught up in it and the suicide pact.

This piece here from food writer Lucinda O'Sullivan covers how she carried on in food circles

I remember the case at the time too …. and talk of people who were fooled by how 'lovely' Croen was ….. that being the name she was known by in her Bee Sensations years …… I know people who are involved in GAA and they met DJ …. said same about him ….. very nice and approachable …..

Croen/Julia/Cecilia/etc were all names this person called herself ….. but was unaware of the cancer angle and also that she was a pretend preacher until the documentary ….. but the fact that she was able to fool people in 3 different countries in different sectors like psychology, religion, and artisan food for so long is amazing …..

There is a fine line between the scammer, the chancer politician and the unscrupulous salesman of course ….. and this one would have the credentials for all these …. she was 2 out of 3 of them for certain just never went into politics for obvious reasons! ……

I think it is important to remind people of scammers esp in this online era …… programmes like Swindlers are important and let's hope they warn people of the dangers of increasingly clever con artists that arise every day …..

    The truth doesn't lie.

Why do you use all the …. in the posts? Just curious.

If you keep looking back you'll never see what's in front of you

That pretty much sums her up ….. interesting to note the status of Twitter aka X back then ….. apparently it was then a useful marketing tool unlike the cesspool of bickering it became after that …… I remember that Boozy Bees thing being mentioned ….. this potcheen sounds like some of these OTT Gaeltacht pronunciations of the name Katelyn!! ……

I can imagine Croein aka Croen aka Julia aka Cecilia roaming from Aldi/Lidl to Aldi/Lidl all over Limerick City, Cork City, and regional towns buying up jars of honey, cherries and alcohol for their 'products' and then jarring/labelling them in her kitchen before deciding on some outrageous price per jar …… but where did she get the jars ???? …..

The name Croen or Croein does seem to be made up ….. was looking it up and only her came up for Croein ….. Croen is a Welsh word for skin and a surname not first name …..

Anyone remember the early 00s BBC comedy Nighty Night? Ive been rewatching that recently. The main character, Jill, is this type of person down to a tee.
