    Nothing for me today.

    €50k gone to Kilkenny

    10no. of 20no. €1,000 gone to Dublin

I know that €250,000 (40,000) is the most we can buy. But auto reinvesting prizes seems to allow some considerably lucky people to stack over the 40,000 limit. Has there ever been ‘talk’ about a case where more than 40,000 have been accumulated one way or another?

    Nothing here either

See the information about Prize Bonds Winnings, and about Inheritance. Nobody was forced to reduce their holdings in November 2015, no matter how large. I read the note below to mean they could have added up to €250K since.

    https://www.statesavings.ie/help-support/help-articles/is-there-any-limit-on-my-overall-holding-of-state

*It should be noted that Prize Bond Maximum Holding limit applies on or after 1 November 2015 and is not retrospective i.e. Prize Bonds added to the Prize Bonds register before 1 November 2015 are not included in Maximum Holding Limit calculations. When you repay Prize Bonds and use the proceeds to purchase new Prize Bonds this new purchase will be subject to the limits.

Typical Irish solution to bending stated rules.

I’m up to 902 bonds, and I’ll wait to put the rest in until this bonds are able to be turned back to cash to maintain access to my ‘rainy day fund’.

Best of luck today to us all.

    New Bond Range: BKI516804 - BKI516815

A block of 457 bonds winning €225 since last April could give hope to people with a small number of bonds. But I could point to multiple other blocks like that which have won nothing for 10 years or more.

thats a really low return and actually losing money on them if you take into account the time value of money / inflation……

There are other considerations when investing apart from the rate of return. Over the time they have had money in PB they have enjoyed capital security and state guarantee, tax free returns and near instant availability of capital. If held as part of a balanced portfolio this makes perfect sense.

A family heirloom, They say each and individual prize bond has the same equal odds, but it's a loooonnnng time since a very old bond has won big, it just doesn't happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭carrickbawn

Nothing here again. A very slow start to the year for me.1 win so far.

Hoping for a bit of an improvement.

Whatever number is left from the first 10 million issued won 4 x €1,000 and 7 x €500 since the newest prize structure started in October 2023. Issued from 1957 to well into the 1960's and obviously their number can only ever go down not up. These days 10 million new bonds are issued every 2 months.

One of the myths about Premium Bonds in the UK:

    2. Older bonds are excluded from the draw

Some people think that old bonds are excluded from the draw as those people are unlikely to sell their bonds, whereas new holders are more likely to cash out. This is not true. If you keep a close eye on the winning bonds it can seem like newer bonds have a greater chance of winning, but this is a result of the majority of bonds having been bought since 2000.

I get more interest from trade Republic's current account in 2 months than i got with 2.5 years on prize bonds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 137 ✭✭chuckles1

There are all fair points and difficult to argue against that. I can't get my head around that a prize bond, and for that matter cash in an instant access deposit account with one of the pillar banks is a depreciating asset……

€4 billion in Prize Bonds, €170 billion in current account type products. Probably performing worse than Prize Bonds. Also €20 billion in Credit Unions, which only announce their interest rate at the end of the year. Often 0%.

There is a big push here and in Europe to get some of the €10 trillion in current accounts put to productive use. Via the stock market. But I would be afraid of what would happen if the stock markets were flooded with massive investments over a short period.

    https://www.eunews.it/en/2025/05/29/connact-10-trillion-in-bank-accounts-of-eu-citizens-to-invest-in-risk-accept-the-idea-of-loss/

As far as inflation goes, it doesn't matter in some ways. People are going to get more value for their Euro these days buying a new TV or maybe a new car, compared to the past. Money in Prize Bonds or any other safe haven, should only be funds not needed for day to day expenditure.

Correct. Which is why in a well balanced portfolio there will be a spread over different asset classes (equities, bonds, property, precious metals, cash, bitcoin (perhaps), etc). Nobody is saying that the majority of investors should invest exclusively in Cash or Prize Bonds/other State Savings Products, but these should form some part of the majority of portfolios, primarily for liquidity/availibility.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭Hibernicis

It should be noted that all monies invested in Prize Bonds, in common with other state savings products, are guaranteed in full by the Irish Government offering maximum security with no upper limit on the amount protected.

The guarantee offered by Trade Republic is, to be generous, far inferior.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,844 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Deposit Guarantee Scheme?

It's the same as with an Irish bank.

Are you confusing putting money in their current account for a 2% interest payment per month with an investment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭Hibernicis

Trade Republic isn’t a bank and so the DGS doesn’t apply to money while it is held by them. When they pass it to their partner bank it is put in an “omnibus” account. Opinions vary on the extent to which funds in such an account are covered by the DGS. It has never been tested in a real life situation.

It’s most certainly not the same as funds on deposit with an Irish bank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,844 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I most certainly don't think you are explaining what is substantively different.

    No offense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭Hibernicis

No offence taken. But I have no idea what it is that I’m not explaining.

Anyway we are way off the thread topic which is Prize Bond Returns; happy to take up issues relating to Trading 212 and the applicability of deposit and other guarantees elsewhere in a relevant thread if you wish.

2 x €75 for me today. This week's two winners from the same two batches as last weeks two winners. Notification e-mail was sent at 12:38. New bonds not issued yet.

€500k gone to Dublin and €50k gone to Galway

€500k winning bond BJK095277 was purchased in September 2025, so a quick return there. The €50k winner was a lot more patient having purchased WF770363 in March 2104.

    11no. of 20no. x €1,000 gone to Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,508 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Nothing for me today. It looks like the new half millionaire in Dublin did not have to invest a very big sum. Neither of the 094 or the 098 winners were in Dublin.

Draw Date Prize Value Bond Number Status

    14 Nov 2025 €75.00 BJK098854 Awarded

    13 Feb 2026 €75.00 BJK094980 Awarded

February count. The same 10 million bonds BJW to BKF in each of the 4 draws. Not counting €1,000 for BKE 13th and €500 for both BJW & BKC 20th.

Friday 06. 123 wins. Highest BJY 22. Lowest BJX 7.

    Friday 13. 105. BJZ 18. BKB 7.

    Friday 20. 107. BJX 15. BJW 5.

    Friday 27. 123. BJX, BJY & BKC 15 each. BKD 7.

    Highest overall BJY 54 (22,8,9,15) Lowest BKD 33 (10,9,7,7)

    Starting BJW 43,49,54,49,49,40,46,33,46,49. Average 45.8.

    40 million bonds won 458 prizes, average per million 11.45. x 52 x €75 = €44,655. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €714.48. Nearest to 10 x €75.
