The mods where they replace her model with Master Miller or the Dog in the rain dancing cutscene are comedy genius.

Bayonetta still looks amazing. Well worth playing if you like Devil May Cry type games.

Captain Cheddar Cheese as the main character(s) stops me from playing DmC. I just cannot warm to those characters at all. Just like i cringe at similar characters in other media, I just can't concentrate on the game... seems like some people found it hard to get into Bayonetta but stuck with it for another hour and loved it, so I assume I previously got to that part but didnt power through.

Also, I'd have to buy a Greedtendo console to play the sequels if I did get into the first one. And I ain't buying another one until they create a screen less cheaper version, or a non-portable console again.. might try it if its ever added to PS+.

If you get a Nintendo you will have access to actual exclusives and not just astrobot and assassins weeb.

If you didn't get on with devil may cry then bayo might not be for you. It's very similar and the Bayonetta character is super cheesey

Tried Test Drive Solar Crown. Write when trying to create new account even though it says i didn't have account when i said forget password. Eventually let me get to the game, instantly put in a Lamborghini with generic boring intro race. Haptic triggers on ps5 are awful, paused it just to see the game doesn't actually pause until you go into settings (Jesus what awful design). Then i see there's no option to disable haptics and Google confirms so stuck with the triggers going mental every time the car needs to shift gears. Way too many red flags within 5 minutes so straight uninstalled it.

Tried Spider-Man 2 but said i need to upgrade to premium for trial. Google tells me i have to add it from the app and then download on the console. That worked but ffs Sony 😩

Booted up Solar Crown and while it did connect, it won't let me play unless I sign up to Nacon, which i don't want to. Why cant the Ubi account work, which shows I'm logged in and the unpassable sign up screen? I subsequently read a few more reviews and it sounds like too much grief to enjoy it. There's no bespoke single player experience. All races are open to anyone joining, so even if no one joins you've to sit in a queue waiting for a countdown you can't skip. No pause even if its all AI opponents, and no quick restart, you've to quit, join, wait and try again. And the aforementioned supercar emphasis just makes me not bothered.

Second Ubi game in as many days that the online requirements put me off. Playing amd enjoying Rogue PoP but the loading is horrendous. All fuelled by Ubis requirement to do an online check on every stage change, it takes longer to load a level than Insomniac takes to load New York City.

Sounds like ill be staying well clear of TDU Solar Crown so. Need to go back to FH5 anyway.

Played an hour or so of Neva since it came to PS+ yesterday. Enjoyable change of pace after SHF and MGS3 Delta.

Need a few smaller titles before RE Requiem. Will probably give Season and Venba a go too.

Man i can't wait for Resi 9! Copies are out in the wild and spoilers are making the rounds so be careful where you're browsing.

Gave Nioh3 another whirl after a break for a few days and beat that boss I'd been stuck on on the third try. Thankfully once you get him down to around half health you basically get a powerup that pretty much takes care of the rest of the fight.

Spent a bit of time in the open world area you're then brought to.

Boy this game sure loves systems and mechanics.

Yeah tons of systems, but they start to make sense as you progress. Trying to spend time with the game every other night and slowly getting to grips with it, killed another boss last night - maybe took 5 attempts to get her, fun fight. She does a fair amount of those red burst attacks so holding R2 and pressing O to counter, I found much handier than just pressing R2. I'm only lvl 37 I think and exclusively playing as a ninja so far, absolutely loving the fast flowing combat coupled with Omnyo powers + ninjitsu arts. The open world aspect is great too, like Elden Ring - being able to just go somewhere else and explore is cool. Also, being able to respec your level points whenever you want for free is fantastic.

Behave, I've reduced my gaming time to the bare minimum but this is seriously tempting me back in.

Can't wait for Resi 9 but I've a bad feeling capcom are going to hobble the PC release with the new drm they are using.

Yeah at this point every time a bunch of new popups explaining something that's now unlocked comes up, I'm just smiling and nodding while holding X to close them.

Starting to enjoy the gameplay a bit more though. Still a lot to get used to. I mostly only beat that boss with the spear because he kept doing the red burst move which was easy to block and punish, but starting to get a better feel for the combat in the open world now. Not sure I'll ever get used to the Ki charge thing which is why I'm mostly sticking to Ninjitsu (despite having found three skill points for Samurai and none for Ninjitsu so far), but I've also found two little green dudes who improve elixirs so that helps.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,556 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

I think I have 22 unspent Samurai points and 8 Ninja ones - I've unlocked enough on the ninja side to keep me going for now - only so many things I can remember to use in the heat of battle! 😂 Again though, it's great that you can unallocate them at the press of a button and re-assign to other skills if need be. There is a Ninja skill you can learn that will clear those yokai pools when you dash - similar to how the ki pulse for Samurai will clear them - although I just try stay away from them.

Don't forget to have a look in your Titles section every now and then to spend those prestige points (no idea how we earn them) - they give handy effects like earning more Amrita or elixir's healing more health etc.

Nioh as a series definitely has a ‘too many systems’ problem. It’s still good, sometimes excellent, but there’s a lot of cruft on top of things.

I think that’s the real difference with a From game - even if there are strange, obtuse systems, they’re designed to be strange and obtuse. They’re actually often actively secretive or obscured. That and the extra layers of artistry is what really makes the difference.

ah I have been heading to bed earlier and reading before and sleeping so much better than I have in decades, Resi is going to wipe all that as me and the wife only have 1 tv in the house so I would be very limited in playtime if not playing at night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 37,416 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah, as I was getting loads of explanatory popups and "Hey, check out this new menu option which means you can do X" last night, I was thinking about how Fromsoft games probably have as many different systems, the only difference is they just don't explain sh*t to you and half the systems are hidden and only activate if you do something in a particular place or wear a certain item.

Nioh is explaining everything in such detail that it's confusing and hard to understand. Every single Souls game I have to spend a few minutes at some point in the game trying to remember how to manually aim a bow and arrow.

The secrecy is if anything more accessible. Bombarding you with transparent systems within systems gives me the feeling I constantly have to micromanage everything and am probably missing something essential.

I’d be much quicker to recommend a From Souls game to a newcomer than a Nioh.

Between that and GTA 6 there's going to be a mahoosive scramble for the TV in our house this year alright😂

I took the plunge with Nioh 3 after playing the demo. They really do need to calm down with the systems, especially the loot system. I am just playing away as a Ninja leveling up - will look at the more complex stuff when I got stuck on a boss! 🤣.

Have been also playing loads of the old (modern) RE games in the build up to next week. I have a copy of RE 6 but have never played it, worth it?

Whatever you paid for resident evil 6, it was that much too much.

Absolute **** sandwich of a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 58,507 ✭✭✭✭Necro

I think I got it for free and still somehow felt robbed.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,663 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

The most baffling thing I see now is the historical revisionism of, actually it's not that bad of a game.

There's some good stuff there but it's all in the mercenaries mode as you have so many movement and combat options.

Doesn't forgive the game for having a god awful single player mode that manages to last near 30 hours.

I'd rate 5 and 6 on the same level, both terrible games. What they did with 7 was nothing short of a miracle after what had gone before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭Anois_

I never played a RE game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,801 ✭✭✭Corvo

Coming to the finish of Ghost of Yotei and everything was going fine until I hit a large chapter of the game in a new area that introduces these really poor puzzles and the entire thing just fell apart for me. I've tracked on playing it to finish it but my god, its an absolute slog at times and I loved the first one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,392 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

The remakes of 2 and 4 are fantastic and Resident Evil 7 and Village did a great job of revitalising the series after the big spectacle missteps of 5 and 6. Trying any of those 4 games would be a great way of dipping your toes into the series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭Anois_

I'm up to my neck in games to play. When I was younger I'd play very few games in a year(no money to buy them) and they were way shorter than todays games. Now I have the money to buy more games than time to play them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,392 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

Resident Evil 7 is about 8 hours to be beat with one of the best opening 90 mins or so of any game.

And one of the worst last 90 minutes. Game falls off a cliff the last 3rd. Still a great game due to the first 2/3rds. Village was excellent as well but slows down towards the end also.

Requiem has a trophy to beat it in 4 hours do sounds like a more condensed game which i think suits the resi games. People complained 3 remake was too short and i put it off for she's but when i did play, i actually quite enjoyed it for the fast action romp it was.
