Car (ID.4 1st) went in to the dealer last week to check driver door handle again, was told the outer door handle was showing a fault and needs to be replaced. Had to remind them it was already done, so will be covered by the 2yr warranty on new parts.

Got another call later to say the right rear motor/actuator was now showing a fault, didn't show up on the initial diagnostic though. Takes a week to order from the UK and 345 euro cost. Anyone else have this happen? They wouldn't release the car as if the brakes locked due to the fault, they would not unlock and the car would not move.

Yep, very low on consumption and that’s why they’re there- instead of trying to heat your big interior box to say 21 degrees, the car instead is providing heat to body and hands at a fraction of the cost to consumption/range- same in my Smart#1- I’m getting used to that now and don’t go beyond 20c as a cabin temperature even over the last few cold weeks - don’t need to

Spy shots during cold weather testing of id 4 Tiguan replacement indicate that they are returning to conventional door handles.

Not a Bad idea. I just got the "Central locking is unavailable" and I think one handle may be at fault. The car is out of warranty so it is Ok to ignore as the door seems to be operating at the moment?

I wouldnt ignore any ID.4 handle faults. They can open for no reason or not open at all.

There is an official recall on ID.4 handles so you should still be able to get warranty on it even if its overall out of warranty…. thats my understanding of it anyway.

seems people are been told there is no recall in ireland

correct , no recall here. Those handles have caused too many problems and VW are poor at helping out of warranty customers here (myself included).

Recall was in the US I believe, but on cars made in Zwickau

I had a door controller replaced after the keyless entry stopped working on the driver's side, cost a neat €600 or so

After that they said there was a fault in the door handle itself and replaced that one for free. Nice of them, but I'm willing to bet there was never anything wrong with the controller that a software reflash wouldn't have fixed

Amazing that a second fault was found soon after the first one was proved to be a warranty job, @cannco253 .

It happened about 18 months after it was initially replaced. OEM parts are guaranteed for 2 years so was covered by that. I had to remind them about that as they didn’t bother checking the repair history on their system. After I pointed it out and they discussed it they agreed it would be covered.

i did say ben told for a reason. VW in Wicklow did tell em there was a recall on my 2023 ID4 City. where they needed to put sealant around the parts of the to stop water ingress in to the electrics of the handle.

i haven't heard of anyone else been told that or gotten the work done

Anecdotally I was told by a work colleague that their ID4 had the handle problem recently and they were told by their dealer that there was a recall on it. I think it was a 2022 ID.4. Must ask again and see how they got on with it.

Finally happened: My 2021 ID.4 is having the dreaded door latch issue. The door catches on the 'first click' (half-latched) but refuses to fully close, leaving the door open symbol on the dash.

Happened last week and took a few tries to fix. This morning, its happened again, I had to get out, fiddle with the handles, and cycle the locks before it finally decided to latch properly. I’m not forcing or slamming it etc or pushing it shut.

Does this sound like the dreaded ID4 door issue?

    Any quick fix?

    Is it a dealer scenario?

I have a very good independent who sorted many thing for me over the years, e.g. he sorted my charge flap not opening, shim kit work on a leaf, could he potentially sort this?

is it only the 2021 to 2024 ID 4’s having this issue

My new ID4 is on a boat this week, does anyone know how long it stays in customs usually before being sent to the dealership?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,509 ✭✭✭pad199207

That’s exactly how it all started with ours. ID 4 is long gone now thank god.

To be fair,it took 5 years in that posters case for the issue to arise ,I will be trading mine at least every 3 years

Secondly I’ve 4 ID4 owners locally happy out,one who prefers it to their wives Tesla who’ve not had any issues at all

I just wish it wasn’t taking so long from order to delivery

thanks. When you say how it all started, what happened next? Door would not close at all was it?

I havent heard of quick fixes. I'd say a dealer visit will be required but worth a search on youtube i suppose. A new part will need to be ordered via VW either way.

thanks, does anyone have an idea on the cost of the part?

One of my doors had this problem, turned out to be the door seal. Might be worth a quick visual check

hmm ok, didnt think a door seal would cause it, but will have a look

Yup and the frost door passenger used to open during driving

good Fook. Is that not an absolute nightmare for Volkswagen from a PR point of view. And just human safety.

The door opening issue was the subject of a recall in 2023

I don’t think it’s an issue now,but haven’t read all this thread but as regards reputation,VW’s EV’s outsold all other brands in Europe last year with the Id3,4 and 7 taking an equal third share each of over half of VW’s sales

    IMG_6790.png

I’d be expecting their fix for the door issue to have been included in the 2025 and 2026 builds

But to be clear if @pad199207 ‘s parents issues had happened me,I’d also be mightily píissed off too

It wouldn’t be a deal breaker if fixed though and certainly isn’t now, given the one being delivered to me was only manufactured last week

Yup! Other than that I thought it was a good car.

    Hi

Driving down road and rear left door opened on id4 2022 gtx. Family very concerned obviously, nobody hurt

Seems like a recurring issue. Do you know how I raise with VW? Bought car 6 months ago from independent

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭pureza

Given it’s a known water ingress issue on the earlier ID4 models and with the record wet weather we have been having since December I’m surprised the problem isn’t more widespread

There is an EU consumer right I think, whereby products purchased are supposed to have a reasonable expectation of use beyond their warranty period,I do not know if this applies to cars, but if it does ,the small claims court might be an option? You’d be taking that against VW not the private seller I’d say if it applies to get them to pay for new door handles?

Upthread they’ve been priced at €350 each

This might be a stupid question, but is there a way to completely deactivate the cruise control on the newer ID.4? I know on the old version you could turn off the main switch, but can't seem to figure it out on new model. It means if you were accidentally press RES the car will start moving forward to whatever speed is set. Seems a strange choice from a safety point of view
