    2019 ioniq 28khw

Did a 160km (80 each way) round trip last Thursday and arrived home with 12% left. That was Thursday so was relatively mild weather. No motorway on that trip, rarely got above 100km/hr and was often driving as low as 80 due to other traffic. Not a hope in hell I'd have been able to do that on Friday during the colder weather

Multiple short trips around town during winter the car can only do about 120km or so if you are turning the heating on every time but will comfortable do 160-180 otherwise depending on weather and type of driving. Things like very wet roads and head winds can really mess with the range too even if it's relatively mild temperature.

This morning my 26km commute used 17%.

this figures are really good, is this on motorway though?

vw id7.. 77kw battery.. 580km summer.. 480 winter. i try to drive around 115kph on the motorways.. it helps a fair bit

Yes most my long trips on motorway, i always do 100kmph on motorway and use full regen.

do you mean full regen on the motorway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 504 ✭✭✭vinniem

Sorry, full regen 100% of time. So on motorway if on long downhill battery getting charged. The Kia GOM is very accurate, I left Derry a few weeks ago destination south tipp.. It said I'd reach my destination with 40km to spare. When I arrived I'd 39km still in battery. The winter has a big effect on battery but still very efficient

isn’t this the identical drivetrain and battery to the ID3 GTX, which is (you’d think) a lighter car and should therefore go further?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,989 ✭✭✭micks_address

all depends how they are driven i guess.. the gtx probably is all wheel drive and motors front and back with bit more horsepower? used to be the way with the gtx models anyway

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

wanted to test out the car at motorway speeds to see what I’d achieve driving at my normal ICE speeds.

200kms reached going from 100-20% charge doing 120-125kmph on a very wet and windy day - temp about 9 Celsius

Official range is 414kms (Smart#1 Pro +) so wanted to see how the car performed at motorway speeds- will be interesting to see if that improves come summer time - it was something like 25kwh per 100kms - 66kw battery - so not a huge range at that speed but I don’t intend to travel those speeds most of the time anyway - in contrast my normal combined driving uses about 18kwh per 100kms in winter which would equate to 293km range doing my normal non motorway driving .
Looking forward to Summer to discover the ultimate ranges of this car. Still and all, it would get you Dublin to Galway with a bit to spare without paying a bit of heed to your speedometer or much further if you can restrain yourself on the accelerator - pretty pleased overall I must say.

I will say in my experience going a b road with an 80kph or 100kph limit if it's more direct can save a lot of energy and time Vs a orbital motorway route if charging is a factor.

It's probably more an issue in something with a small battery than something with a large battery that has very high speed charging.

Have had mine coming up on 4 years now (2019 I-pace) very consistent 370km range in Summer and 320km in Winter, measured by distance travelled x percentage used.

Consistent commute of 75km each way, 55km on the motorway at full motorway speed and 20km back roads at 60-100kph

Id4 for about a year now.

    18kw per 100km for 25000km

Roof bars on 90% of the time. Bike or kayak on roof say 10%?

Often do 125, 130kph on a motorway spin. Which does hammer the efficiency more than the weather in my experience.

I'd say you could get 15 or 16 easily with a lighter right boot and the roof clean.

Polestar 2. 3 years old. 78kw battery does the 300km drive Dublin to Kerry in the winter using nearly the full battery driving the limit all the way. Summer might do it using 75% battery.

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

do you have the heat on full blast?

my experience is that cold weather has a much greater range impact on short trips - because the heaters work their hardest bringing up the cabin to temp from cold - once the target cabin temp has been reached, the power consumption drops off. i don't think i'd have noticed the heat drawing nearly a third as much power as the actual driving on a long trip!

FWIW today at one point my 64kWh Kona was showing 50% battery and 250km estimated range left.

    I have a 2020 Kia SOUL EV.

Over 400kms range in Summer (actually driven, not the GOM estimate, which usually hovers at about 480kms) but about 320 indicated in winter. I rarely let the battery drop below the 20% mark before charging.

The worst I ever had was an actual 217kms from 100% to 9% coming back to Dublin from Galway in the depths of winter. Outside temp was about 2c and howling wind/rain almost the whole way. I was a little uncomfortable with that consumption but thankfully the car got us home. The one and only time in 4 years, I had range anxiety. 🙂

Incidentally, I have averaged 16.2KWh per 100kms in the car since I got it in 2022 and completed 46,000kms. That is from the onboard consumption meter and has not been reset since I got it.

Changing it soon to a Hyundai Ioniq 6, so I am hoping to see a big difference in range.

Ioniq 6 should see 500-550 in summer and about 400 in winter.
