They set the price of the launch edition models too high and little to nobody bought them. Now they're facing a write-down on old stock while the new models are better and cheaper.

    Crazy stuff.

Practice is not really going to help with the rain and a broken charger. Even when they work it can be a pain.

I had to actually use a esb fast charge last night. 3 degrees, lashing rain. These are brand new 200kw ESB chargers.

Spaces are too small. Guy beside me was right on the line so I couldn't actually get into the space. So ended up with my nose sticking out.

Got out, 3 degrees outside, lashing rain. No cover to step under, everything soaked. Got plugged in. Press the button to select debit card, screen sits there, take out the app, swipe to start charging 30 seconds on spinning and it starts.

Hopped back in frozen and wet. And it will only charge at 50kw as there's a few people charging.

And that was someone very comfortable with charging.

Agree, they added at least 12k worth of extras when you include our exorbitant VRT on higher price cars and lack of EV grant at this price point. No difference than specking up a new Model Y AWD. But most private owners would add some of these extras after purchase, saving considerable money.

There is no value that I can see in the year old Launch Edition being offered by Tesla atm for the private buyer. And the new car, as mentioned by others, will have a little more range, larger screen and black headlining (If that is your thing).

A number of Tesla pages have errors on them, even the new cars quote incorrect range depending on the model.

What's important is the battery size, standard is 60kWh usable, Premium RWD is 75kWh usable (I assume the LR standard is the same, not of interest to me so haven't researched it) and Premium AWD is 79kWh usable. The manufacturer is also important as there are different suppliers, if you order then your order page will confirm the config, it's hidden but there are workarounds

Difficult to know true battery sizes, if the RWD LR and RWD Premium LR have the same battery size, then strange that the RWD LR has slightly less range. You would expect the opposite being a little lighter and having less power.

The AWD has a different (larger) battery pack size (82kWh AWD Vs 79kWh RWD), also the front motor is very rarely used in moving the car, it's mostly used in regen which increases range.

We got an upgraded AWD pack late last year (BT5M or M53F) which is now 82kWh LG versus previous Panasonic packs.

The US always had a bigger AWD pack so this is (I assume) just bringing uniformity

The plug and charge that Tesla have is a much better user experience than tap and paym

They were not too high relative to the price of an AWD with the associated extras included, (EAP, tow, AB, 20” wheels, paint option) but they were priced too high in the context of 90% of people don’t want that model.

They wanted the standard RWD version.

Exactly. Maybe some good old US thinking, where a launch edition of a vehicle is somehow seen as prestigious, don't think it carries over as well in other markets - well maybe China.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,885 ✭✭✭eagerv

Yes, but surely would make more sense financially to buy some of these extras after purchase

    Possibly.
The EAP may save some VRT but the others where on par with buying them from scratch.

It was more suited to the American market as a launch car IMO.

I suppose also that many of the Launch Edition cars were bought by companies, so the €3.5K grant for cars under €60K wasn't an issue.

I wonder if many Launch Edition were bought. It’s certainly a spec/colour combo I’d like to own in the future if not a P version.

I have never seen a silver Model Y, seems to be the predominant Launch Edition colour, on the road, but then again I see very few any colour Junipers down here.

I think the sweetspot for the Model Y is the RWD LR Premium. But I wouldn't say no to a Performance! I have even checked with my insurance company just in case..

But the sensible choice is the Base RWD LFP or Premium (If it could be bought)

    Edited.

A beauty..And looks great with the white interior.😍

Cyrus, looks like a very nice combo. That colour really suits the car.

Still waiting for my Y to arrive. I had an delivery appointment for this Wed but it was pushed forward by over a month.

That's a strange one, after getting a delivery appointment.

    Did they give a reason?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭evftw

No explanation, they just made a new appoinment for the end of March. I'm thinking that it must have been a last minute problem with the transport to Ireland, and/or somebody just made a mistake. Anyway, I wasn't too impressed on Friday.

I had a VIN assigned to the order since late Jan but it also disappeared from the app yesterday. Keeping my fingers crossed now that I will get a new higher VIN with the latest interior upgrades which the previous one didn't have. That would make it somewhat easier to stomach the extra wait.

Just got a VIN for my Model Y RWD Premium. Arrived into Ireland, delivery in next week or two. Got a call from Tesla Cork, all go.

No extras, model is the discontinued LFP Premium at €45,058. Guessed something was about to happen as saw 2 new Inventory RWD Premium earlier. (Gone 5 mins later)

    Ordered 26th December.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭evftw

I ordered Nov 22nd so your wait is much shorter. The Premium LFP > > > the new RWD LFP, nicely done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,885 ✭✭✭eagerv

    Which spec did you order?

My estimated delivery was March sometime, but yesterday changed to February but didn't get too excited as delivery dates can be all over the place.

Had got to the stage that I was almost resigned to the possibility that Tesla may not build the car I had ordered any more and would be offered a different spec.

Unsure as yet if car has the black headliner and larger screen, but not worried either way. Sort of prefer the lighter headlining in a dark interior. But the inventory cars I saw earlier were pictured with the latest updates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭evftw

Mine is the LR AWD and in blue. I expect it to have the older interior. I had the VIN assigned but it's now gone from the Tesla app for some reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,885 ✭✭✭eagerv

May well be the new interior, Tesla aren't sure as yet with mine, car was built around the changeover time.

Hopefully VIN will appear again soon..

Is the dark headliner definitely reserved for the premium /performance trims?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,478 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I saw a post on Facebook saying Grok is getting rolled out in Ireland but I've not gotten the update yet, anyone gotten it so far?

With a black interior the black trim around the pillars and glass roof (can't really call it a headliner) will potentially make the cabin quite dark looking - not sure if it's actually an upgrade or not?

Would be ok on the Premium and Performance with the big glass roof. But on the new base model I would imagine would be a bit dark.

We have an all black interior Kia Sportage in work, and it's dark alright.
