Did I say that they were doing that? They have already stated that they will be fulfilling the fixtures in their statement yesterday.

It seems you don't really know much about this topic at all and just wanted some cheap point scoring.

We rightly choose not to enter Eurovision this year and are not alone in doing that.

Nope, the point is that there's now multiple questions you won't answer because you know you've lost the argument.

Can't stand over your boycott comments anymore.

Refuses to look at the consequences for pulling out of soccer game versus Eurovision, or consider the differences in setup.

Followed up with faux concern fooling no one about oh won't someone please think of the Eurovision fans…

Utterly disingenuous nonsense from start to finish.

    What are you on about?

I've expressed my point quite well.

I've said I don't agree with boycotts. Full stop.

Differences between Irish sporting & arts bodies are evident here.

The Taoiseach/FAI confirmed the matches are going ahead.

Likewise there wont be any boycott from Ireland's Olympic Team when LA 2028 rolls around.

The artistic & creative voices that advocated for a Eurovision boycott have only succeeded to deny the Irish public an entrant, they haven't landed a glove on Isreal who is only emboldened by these antics. I predict we'll see a quick reversal for Eurovision 2027.

Yeah the process of getting Ireland back into the Eurovision starts today.

    It's only the Eurovision FFS.

We don't have to enter this year.

    What's another year ? 😁

But it's only football as well. Why not skip that as well using the Eurovision logic. Especially if it turns out RTE broadcasts the Irish matches with Israel.

I believe we have been sold a pup by student politics leftists & a main broadcaster that seized the opportunity to avoid the tab.

It may be time for some grown ups to intervene at this 11th hour & reverse this nonsense decision which is only denying the Irish public some participation & national pride.

You know there's plenty out there who feel immensely proud that they have stuck to their guns and not entered.

I still come here once a week to see what's happening in Euroland. You got me all excited…sadly, Wiwi continues, just the website is gone. I hadn't been on there in ages anyway, if a song wasn't a "YAS QUEEN SLAY" girlbop or a ballad sung by a hunky man, they didn't care. And their unmoderated comments section was toxic.

Anyway, I don't think anyone else here has mentioned this news yet, so I will…the Live Tour is off:

Well that's embarrassing for the EBU. I imagine interest was very low.

I was joking hence the smiley and the Johnny Logan song ref.

It's all very strange what is going on.

It's all perfect distractions for inactive politicians. Let's not deal with Gaza or the housing problems. Let's talk about a soccer match or a song contest instead.

If RTE is boycotting the Eurovision then they should at least not broadcast the football matches either.

But again, RTE is not a political organisation. And the government is hiding from decision making.

These patriots would love to see us sign the suicidal occupied territories bill & probably smack Trump across the head with the bowl of shamrock.

There's a reason student union leftists will never enter power sharing, they live in fear of the day they'd have to grow up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

I thought the patriots were those hanging up the Ireland flags all over the place? The whole country is very patriotic it seems.

Thankfully they won't be cheering on any Irish entry at the Eurovision this year.

Yep.. and I think RTE's decision was to gather popularity after their recent financial scandals.

Eurovision got thrown under the bus.

I certainly would not feel "proud" to be competing against a genocidal State that has murdered over 50,000 women and kids. 1000 of those kids didn't reach their first birthday.

Fan engagement is incredibly low right now, as is interest in the contest from outside the fandom. It was never going to end any other way. This was the worst possible year to do this, but I'm glad the EBU's big 70th anniversary has turned out to be a damp squib.

I can't help but feel a little bit of 'Schadenfreude' at the concerts being cancelled. The whole thing had disaster written all over from the start. I don't know what the EBU were thinking -

Over priced tickets for huge arena shows missing most of recent successful acts - Loreen, Duncan Laurence, Maneskin, Kaarija, Baby Lasagne....

Not having the full line up confirmed before tickets went on sale. Should have waited until after ESC 2026 took place so they and, more importantly, the ticket buying public would know the full line up.

    Blanking Eastern and Southern Europe.

Scheduling the concerts during the World Cup and Summer Festival season. Should have been in the Autumn/Winter.

Add in the current controversies the contest is embroiled in this has to be one of the worst times to try something like this. Just a symptom of the EBUs delusion, arrogance and hubris. Ridiculously out of touch with both the fandom and reality.

    Estonia

Vanilla Ninja are back at Eurovision, 21 years after finishing 8th for Switzerland. I think this is nice, but difficult to get too excited by it. Though in a year with only 15 countries per SF nothing can be ruled out

    Denmark

Very different to the lightweight fluff they usually send, this might be first song this year I can say I actually like. Think this'll qualify easily and may have a shot at a decent result in the final.

    Latvia

She's a good singer, but this isn't doing much for me at all. Not sure if it qualifies

Meanwhile, this is the favourite to be picked for Greece later today

Seems like an attempt to recreate Joost and Tommy Cash, just the song isn't as good.

Meanwhile, Finland have today overtaken Israel in the overall win market, primarily down to hype for Liekinheitin

National Final is February 28th and this is the heavy favourite to be picked. Will likely do very well in Vienna.

€47 for a pair of socks.

The EBU has lost the plot.

I'm guessing the withdrawals have affected funding a bit, despite claims to the contrary.

Ah now … it’s two pairs of socks in fairness - that’s less than €12 per sock!!!

My question is: who is going to buy them?

Several hardcore fans I know have walked away from the contest completely since 2024, and others are just doing the bare minimum now: they'll watch the NFs and the live shows, but won't do anything else, no social media posts, no blogs, no pre-parties and certainly no merch.

And casual fans, the ones who watch on Saturday night only and have forgotten all the songs by Sunday evening, certainly aren't going to be interested.

    So who's left?

Same logic applies to the live tour tickets.

I'd love to know how much the EBU lost on the tour…..it must be substantial.

Edit: I'm reading the figure may have been well into the hundreds of thousands.

    Good!

And I say that as a massive fan.

    Greece

It is indeed Ferto for Greece. A lot of people trying to hype this up as a potential winner, but not possible when juries exist. And thank god for that! Can see a Tommy Cash style score for this, around 250 from the public and 100 or less from the juries to finish top 5 overall.

    Croatia

Not really doing anything for me personally, but far ahead of what they sent last year. Though it'd be difficult not to!

Meanwhile, the UK have plumped for Look Mum No Computer. No idea who he is, but hopefully it's something decent.

Not sure about the UK entry from his Instagram alone, doesn't look like a singer and you can't play live at Eurovision.…but we will see!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,219 ✭✭✭supereurope

I had the misfortune of hearing a snippet of the Greek song on Bluesky (note to self: disable auto-play of videos.) It's dreadful…the Greek team has seen Tommy Cash, Joost, Baby Lasagna and Käärijä rake in the televote points and smushed them all together so they can do the same. This sort of act now just seems like a lazy shortcut to fandom love and a big televote score.

On that topic btw, any particular reason why Joost, Baby Lasagna and Käärijä are beloved by many in the fandom in an almost obsessional way, but the attitude on Tommy Cash seems to be rather cool?

Bit concerned about the UK act…not familiar with him, but his act appears to be making music with unusual objects (like a Furby), not sure how that will translate on stage where no live music is allowed. Will it also mean someone else will provide the vocals? Sounds a little like a DJ act, like Gabry Ponte or that Austrian guy from 2022 whose name I've forgotten, and that's a cause for concern, that type of act tends to do poorly.

This is the bloke who made the infamous Furby Organ, 8 years ago. He's not quite as mad now, but the geezer still ain't normal. His mostly self-built modular synthesiser goes where he goes.

The UK Eurovision Project team have cottoned on to the fact that the ESC is now in the TikTok era…about time!

They FINALLY realised that having a ‘content creator’ a la Tommy Cash could secure them a better placing and a wider audience, rather than the usual Andrew Lloyd Webber-associated confection that connects with nobody.

We’ll pass judgement until we hear the song of course, but the Megaman has already deducted him points for having the look and vibe of an annoying Children’s BBC presenter from the 1980’s.

In fact, he does look a bit like Simon Parkin.

Just spotted this…Marty is just upset that he won’t be able to pay a visit to ‘Vollpension Schleifmühlgasse’ 😁
