It's a bit of a "Big Ed Loves Mona" rip-off, but I'm in.

    Yet another alien movie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,336 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Is there even aliens in it?

The conspiracy nuts will love this, they think films like this is the human race beinf prepared for some great reveal in the near future.

Not saying it’s Aliens, but it’s d’Aliens. Disclosure is a buzzword within the UFO community and it’s been coming any day now for the last few years. Go to a Reddit UFO forum and you’ll see people say this film is to soften up society for a big reveal.

Full trailer, let's be having ye. I liked how they didn't name Spielberg until the end, and no trailer before the trailer.

I've only watched a bit of the teaser so far but it doesn't matter a jot - it's Spielberg, doing a summer blockbuster, so I'm 100% in for day one at the cinema.

Dunno, looks a bit like a mash of V, Signs, Day The Earth Stood Still and whatever else you're having yourself. Is Eve Hewson there on merit or is Spielberg just doing Bono a favour?

not watched the trailer but eve hewson has given great performances in the knick, bad sisters, few other films. I think she's probably in it on merit

Final trailer, gives away a bit too much for my liking.

Looks like this may flop. Box office tracking is indicating a $35m opening weekend in the US. I'm not surprised - the trailers have been quite dull.

I'd be slow to underestimate Spielberg!

The trailer probably does give too much away, and not a fan of the decision to have him feature in an actual trailer.

That said, it looks like a strong mystery/conspiracy & suspense-laden sci-fi with genuine characters, so I'm very much on board.

I'll just go watch it, will ignore the trailers for now.

Yeah, perhaps. We need original IP to do well. However, I think two other examples of original IP (Obsession and Backrooms) seem to be dominating the cultural conversation. Let's see if things pick up once reviews hit.

Never trust the early positive social media posts, but a few critics I trust seem to be suggesting on Letterboxd and the like that it's good… so fingers crossed it has some of that classic Spielberg magic. Tintin, The BFG and Ready Player One do very little for me, so it's been a long time since he's had a proper big budget genre effort that really worked IMO.

IFI is showing in 70mm for anyone interested.

The trailer was hit and miss for me. Some of the action sequences looked bland Marvel CGI-heavy style. I don't know why. The bit with the cars driving through a house.

BUT. What hit ( the majority) really hit. I am really looking forward to this and choosing to believe the bits I didn't like in the trailer are going to be minor things and misleading editing.

I detested Ready Player One (the film and the book). Every single thing about both. And The BFG never floated my boat (any version). But know fans of the book liked it a lot.

I enjoyed aspects of War of The Worlds. I actually thought Cruise was very good in it. But the daughter's Panic Attack screams really induced Panic Attacks in me (as intended, to be fair) and meant it was difficult for me to really enjoy. And the less said about the fate of the son, the better.

So I am very much intrigued by this and anything that is not a sequel, superhero or franchise movie is good to me. Nothing against them (they help keep cinemas going) but good to see something original

The War of Worlds had some great visuals.

But everyone in it was so unlikeable (bar Dakota Fanning) I wanted them all harvested.
And the ending so utterly lame. U.S.A! U.S.A!

    Really hoping this hits.

Minority Report was probably his last top notch film.

Its almost 25 years old, doesn't seem it.

I believe the review embargo for Disclosure Day ends at 5pm today (Irish Time). My guess is that it will receive mixed reviews. The level of anticipation seems far below that for The Odyssey. It looks like Disclosure Day will require very positive word of mouth to achieve strong box office figures.

Has anyone here been at a preview screening?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

It'll be a hit. Nothing else to see in the cinema anyway.

Spielberg + Sci-fi + Aliens is enough to sell any movie.

It might get mixed reviews though, or maybe some lukewarm ones amongst the positives.
