What do you think would happen if every non citizen who pays less tax than is their share of government expenditure leaves the country?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭Stephen_Maturin

What has that hypothetical got to do with anything, I never suggested such a thing?

I said “surplus to requirements” in my comment

So agressive, irate, confrontational, etc etc.

Now back to my original question - what is indiscriminate about this woman getting deported? Nothing is the answer.

She went through the asylum process and was deemed ineligible. Swift deportation and onto the next case please minister.

Deleted as not worth the effort.

The media have a lot to answer for here.

Instead of establishing the facts, they jumped straight to the conclusion that ICE were acting unlawfully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,189 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

So did ICE know about the guys history, do you think ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,397 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Good chance they were aware. The American authorities have very good intelligence. This drugs charge was easily found in the public domain.

"Far more deserve"... it's not a league table with a relegation zone. It's a binary. There are rules and procedures. They got turned down, they should go.

    Maybe . Fair cop .

The American authorities have very good intelligence.

Don't know what to say to that , Francie 😅

Seamus Culleton was facing drug charges at the time he moved to United States

    https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026/02/12/seamus-culleton-was-facing-drugs-charges-at-the-time-he-moved-to-united-states/

Confirming birthdate of person facing alleged warrants and ICE detainee's .

No mention of ICE 's knowledge of this .

But Culleton opted to stay in detention rather than be deported straight home according to his solicitor .

RTE("THE Truth Matters") News late to the party.

Culleton failed to appear in Irish court on drugs charges in 2009

When asked by RTÉ News if Mr Culleton had any interactions with law enforcement either in Ireland or the US prior to his dealings with ICE, she indicated that she had just become aware of a claim around an incident in Ireland.

"This is the first time that we are hearing about that," she said.

Ms Okoye said the claim related to a warrant issued in Ireland in April 2009.

But she noted: "Mr Culleton has been in the States since March 2009 and will not be aware of any warrant that happened after he came to the United States."

She added: "A warrant is not a conviction, a warrant is not a criminal entry, so I will leave it at that until I understand the specific facts of the case."

"Mr Culleton has been in the States since March 2009 and will not be aware of any warrant that happened after he came to the United States."

Pull the other one. He would have been aware, his family would have informed him, and did he really think nothing would have arisen from missing court dates? And it seems as well as not being honest with the Irish people, he's kept his lawyer in the dark about his past as well.

Liveline weren't letting a little thing like the truth stand in the way of their agenda. Today's programme completely ignored the accusations against Seamus. They should have shown due diligence, before jumping on the bandwagon.

Just shows you need to establish the facts before believing anything the media are telling you.

It just feels like this is a fantasy narrative — this whole idea that you can't say anything other than immigration is awesome or you get shot down. It's just completely untrue. Who shoots you down for saying that? Starmer said immigration needs to come down, our own government here has said immigration numbers are too high. There is literally no critical mass of people in politics here or in the UK for that matter who aren't in support of some form of strengthening of immigration control.

Ratcliffe isn't being "shot down" because he didn't say everything is awesome and he isn't being shot down because he said immigration was too high or needed to be controlled. He is being criticised because he used the term 'colonised' which has very specific connotations and typecasts migrants as being part of some organised effort to invade the UK. He is also being criticised for the fact that he's a massive feckin hypocrite too, for that matter.

Brexit failed because it's little more than another manifestation of the failings of Right wing politics, which when it comes to power and policymaking has proven on multiple occasions that it's like a dog chasing a car. It's great at barking and chasing, but doesn't know what to do once it gets the car.

Some neck going on national radio. Trust Cuddihy to oblige. Hopefully gets him on again tomorrow to finish out the week in style

100% correct. I was there when the envelope was opened.
There are 2 places in the same town with a very similar address, one is The XXX, the other is XXX Close.
The envelope went to the address typed in the letter, the postman did not make a mistake. Either the family gave the wrong address or someone in Welfare put the wrong one in.

Well it is an Organised effort. Just by the Neoliberal Elite rather than on the volution of the migrants themselves.

As for Right Wing Politics - In truth the UK to this day does not have an actual right wing in the mainstream. The AFD is an example of an actual right wing. The closest thing the UK has is reheated Thatcherism in the form of Reform.

Reform itself is simply a different brand of Neoliberalism. They still agree with the Left wing on the most important issues, notably above all immigration- Reform still embraces diversity, Reform still want immigration - They even employ a whole bunch of immigrants in their party now.

You don't employ the Chief Boriswave enabler if you don't intend on having more immigration to keep Corporate interests happy.

An actual Right Wing would be prepared to fight tooth and nail to get their agenda through. Trampling over Corporate interest, Gutting the Civil Service to get your policies in, Implementing Remigration, and especially going after the Leviathan that is the Financial regime behind progressive left wing causes.

What has emerged about that Culleton lad after he was championed by our national broadcaster and nearly all major media outlets is hilarious.

Hopefully they have done a little bit more due diligence on the South African lady that has been served a deportation order.

You won't be hearing anymore about him now. He's blown his chance of a late late show appearance 😂

They couldn't control themselves thinking they had some hit piece. Hilarious.

But you don't really know how right wing AfD are in effect. The distinction between AfD and those Right wing people in the UK you call reheated Thatcherites is that the latter have experienced the effects of promises, slogans and ideology confronting the ever-present obstacle of reality when in power. AfD have not been in power, so you can't really tell what they will achieve — and indeed whether what they achieve will be accepted for long enough by the German people for it to be lasting. Ultimately, a party's ideological identity is almost always pared back once they are forced to have to make policy, something which requires domestic buy-in, domestic co-operation with others and then international co-operation.

Trampling over corporate interest, gutting the civil service to get your policies in, implementing remigration — well — these are big statements which require a very solid understanding of what that actually looks like and how you go about doing those things in a way that doesn't lead to sharp and fairly epic downturns in your popularity, your subsequent loss of power and (worst of all I guess, if I am looking at it from your perspective) not only the loss of your policies but the handing back of the incentive to left wing policies again.

As for going after the 'financial regime behind progressive left wing causes', I fear that after doing all that you might find that ideas and opinions aren't kept alive on finance, no matter how many people like to believe that those who disagree with them only do so on the basis of some pipeline of cash. I certainly am not getting any fivers thrown my way by George Soros for tapping my thoughts out on here!

I had uncles who moved to the UK and got jobs on sites in the 1960s with no leaving cert . They both bought nice houses and raised families.

The lady was selling stuff online to make money, not as a lifestyle choice. She was supplementing her husbands income to make ends meet . One child, council house. The husband was working all the hours he could. Really nice family.

In the space of 50 years, England changed from a land of opportunity to a s#ithole. I was shocked. People couldn't get ahead despite doing all the right things and had no hope of ever owning a house . No future.

I just thought that might give context for the current malaise in the UK.

Helen McEntee on Tonight on VMTV with Claire Brock inadvertently let some inconvenient truths out of the bag: “Being designated as a safe country doesn’t necessarily mean anything”.

    "Update 12th February

We are relieved to share some good news: the family’s deportation date has been delayed for 4 weeks, which gives them more time and hope."
    https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-oyekanmi-family-due-to-be-deported-on-12-february

From the Gofundme of that SA/Nigerian family who were due to be deported. Theres only one way this goes and thats that they're staying permanently.

How on earth is it fair to make decisions like this based on how many people are willing to deliver a letter for you? We either have a fair rules based system or we have a popularity contest.

I'm genuinely impressed how they managed to have entire segments on stuff like this and the housing crisis without mentioning it. Same with News talk.

If big Jim was making his comments in the 60s, it would have been directed at your 2 uncles.

Even now since he didn't clarify I imagine he means the Irish too.

In the space of 50 years, England changed from a land of opportunity to a s#ithole.

Ah, I was over frequently in the 80s, life was absolutely bliss under Saint Maggie. She was a great friend of the Irish.

The odd building exploded and there was one or two industrial squabbles.

But apart from that it was all brilliant.

That's fair depressing that. We aren't a serious nation.
