I dont think its a lack of player welfare. theyre doing what theyve alwsys done and its much more like a lot of english leagues with teams ready to go earlier in season and they play lot more games than here. it hasnt stopped a lot of ulster clubs winning the round robin in recent years with Clogher Valley, Ballyclare, Instonians all going up since covid

Would they ask AIL players or Professional Players to play Saturday / Wednesday / Saturday / Wednesday / Saturday whilst going to a full time job inbetween?

    It's a disgrace.

Clogher fielded their 2nd XV in the Towns Cup Final and lost 70 odd to Ballyclare because of the congestion.

Just because other clubs have survived it doesn't mean the model is right.

What do you do. Its very tough but id rather that then not enough games which all too many clubs have these days. theres lot of competitions not run any more or have been bumped to pre season only instead. id rather too many rhan not enough games/competitions

UCD vs Trinity this evening in their Colours game.

posted it in the leinster thread as some dont look here too often but well worth going to if youre free. always good crowd, plenty of slagging/banter and rugby is usually a good quality. rhat its not an AIL game for first time in a while isnt a bad thing either. when theyre not same AIL division would be good seeing the game back in Donnybrook like it had been years ago.

The last time I saw a Colours game.…was in Donnybrook...Brian ODriscoll and Ciaran Scally were a class apart for UCD....I think it was 2000....

Think it was 1999 - O'Driscoll scored his hat trick in Paris in the 6 Nations a few weeks after the Colours Match in 2000 and Ciaran Scally was finished with rugby (sadly) by then.

Have been to a few in Dublin and played one in Limerick years ago and went to few others there as well. theyre great craic and good to see the Dublin colours turn into a bit of an event with womens colours, junior colours, social tag, quiz events etc all run through the week leading up to tonights game

Seems Carlos Spencer has been sacked by Terenure. A disaster of an appointment, which probably dented their pockets too.

you wouldn’t think Trinity are top 2 in 1B after watching that. Were they missing many players???
UCD very well drilled. Their 10 was superb

Yeah, both sides were missing quite a few - Noah Byrne at full back is the Irish U20s full back and is the joint top try scorer in 1B this season. I think he's probably their best back, and they were also missing their best forward, the lock Artur Smykovskiy, who is on the bench for Leinster A in Galway today.

On top of that - Trinity were without their first choice half backs, Oscar Cawley & Matty Lynch, their regular openside Conall Henchy and Mark Walsh at 12.

On the UCD side - 4/5ths of their starting pack are starting for the Irish U20s - the two props Max Doyle & Sami Bishti and the two locks, Dylan McNeice and Donncha McGuire. UCD also missing a few to the Leinster A game, including Ruben Moloney, Andrew Osborne and Conor O'Tighearnaigh.

I thought it was a decent game, weather destroyed it as a spectacle though. Paddy Clancy (the UCD 10) was superb and has been excellent all season. He should be in the Irish U20s squad - I think he's a better played that Charlie O'Shea.

Surely he may just be away back to NZ to see family during the down weeks of AIL?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 376 ✭✭Leinster5

Spencer was let go this week by Terenure. Confirmed. What a disaster of an appointment. Fassbender is leaving Lansdowne at the end of the season, along with Blaney leaving Blackrock this Summer too.

A lot of big vacancies at some big clubs. With more to come by the sounds of it from other clubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 RugbyAcount222

    Wow…

Big news there, heard about Spenser & Blaney. Did not hear about Fassbender. Rhys Ruddock next in line there?

Who is taking over for Terenure? Paul Barr?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 374 ✭✭luke9311

christ lot of movement heard about blaney through a rock contigent wonder what makes him want to move if he wants a new challenge as hes there in rock a while now or just things not going as planned and thats his decision. Didnt hear about the spencer move until Leinster5 posted it above and never heard about fassbenders decision till you mentioned it thats a big change around amongst 3 teams.

Why did Spencer leave? Just not working? Or more sinister.

Do any of you lads remember him playing? My god what a talent, what a maverick! I remember getting up early Sat morning to watch the early days of Super 12 rugby. It was like rugby from a different planet, to the muck played by Ireland at the time. I always though he would be a great skills coach but not head coach.

I still think probably watching Saturday morning Super Rugby from the period of c. 1998-2002 is like my core initial rugby memory. It genuinely was like watching a different game to going to my Dad's AIL games or to the stuff on here at the time, and the players genuinely looked like different species with the pace, power and skill. Some of the Blues backlines of that era were other-worldly in terms of talent.

it really was SUPER rugby But the they made an absolute mess of it, expand too quickly, too may timezones, pay wall, okaying in massive empty stadiums, I used be so giddy sat morning getting ready to watch it, spencer, lomu, cullen, ozzie teams were equally fantastic. The speed, skill, hits, occasional defending.

I never ever thought Irish rugby would get to that level and compete. What has happened the last 25 years in Irish rugby is really astonishing.

Big performance from Bective today. Fair to say Malahide are destined for Leinster League.

Some huge wins this weekend. Super win for Old Belvo over a pretty stacked Young Munster team.

Mary’s absolutely smashed Cork Con - when was the last time Cork Con shipped 57 points to anyone, especially at Temple Hill?

In 1B that’s a massive win for Trinity up in Instonians, and positions them well to push on.

I was at Wesley-Garryowen in Donnybrook. Wesley frustrated to lose, but the quality of Garryowen’s backrow prob made the difference. Was very impressed by the young Garryowen full back Fionn Rowsome.

Was at the belvo game myself as a neutral. Good win for belvo against an as you put it stacked cookies side which is hard disagree with you when you see the side on paper. they got a decent try through there 9 outside that i felt they didnt really have much to offer belvo seemed to be on the front foot for most of it momentum wise. What im wondering now is does that put them out of the race for the 3rd/4th place….. they have lansdowne away, tarf albeit at home, marys away and on the form marys or in hard to see them win that & hinch home. They were are team i said not to write off in here back at christmas based on the amount of bp's & LP's they picked up midway through the season but there run in looks though and some of there players probably be away on a trip to south africa when munster have there away games later this month. Felt that was a must win game for them at the weekend they didn't take.

Mark McHughs men with their biggest win this season you’d have to say. Especially after Cork Con beating Clontarf a week prior. You’d have to think Mary’s will get better the better the weather gets. We’ll be very strong once the ground gets harder. Mary’s playing the best brand in 1A you would have to say.

Great result for Old Belvo, Lansdowne & Terenure. Rumours of Fassbender leaving at the end of the season? What will happen if Lansdowne make an AIL Final?

Clontarf with a comfortable win over UCD. Looks like them and Mary’s will likely nail down spots 1&2.

Terenure rejuvenated after Carlos getting hook? Seriously good result for them. Albeit not the strongest Hinch side. UCD almost certainly in the playoffs now?

In 1B I’d love for Wesley to come up. They’re making very hard work of it. Trinity go from being a kick away from being relegated to being in the hunt? What’s going on there. Garryowen & Highfield getting wins to push themselves closer to top 4! James Cronin looks to be playing 80 minutes every week! What a weapon to have. Queens likely relegated? Naas, UCC, Blackrock all fighting to stay out of that 9th place play off. Blackrock are putting out some very strong teams.

Will be great to see Barnhall in 1B next year, they have been so close in recent years! Shannon, Dungannon & Wanderers look likely to make up the play off spots?

Galweigans with a win next week will escape the Ail div 2 B&C north / south league and playing in 2A.

Ballyclare with an unbelievable comeback win over Bective.

    35-0 down after 30 minutes.

Came back to win 45-43 and all but secure their survival with Malahide and Quins looking destined to finish in the bottom 2.

I think Wesley looking good for a 1A spot but shame it'll be at expense of a non Leinster side so could potentially be 7 dublin sides in 1A. University sides always go through such a big turnover of players and everything else. very easy to see big changes one season to next so im not that surprised at trinitys results.
